This invention relates to sanitary pad shields. generally. More particularly this invention re- I lates to a sanitary pad shield adapted to besup:

ported upon the underside of thepad, while in 5 use, and prevent objects, particularly'wearing ap-i parel, from coming in contact with the pad An object of this invention is to provide a sanitary pad shield made from a piece of flexible and pliable material andhaving strips or bands ex tending across sections of the pad in such a manner that the pad and shield are effectively held together in use, yet may be easily, without ex tensive handling, separated after use.

Another object of this invention is to provide a sanitary pad shield of flexibleand pliable material adapted for use on the underside offa sanitary v as the sanitary pad, with which it is to be used;

pad as a guard, the shield being so shaped that sections of the pad extend over the edges thereof and prevent rubbing contact between surfaces the shield and the skin of the user.-

Other and further objects of this invention will be apparent to those'skilled in the art: to which it relates'from the followingspecifications and the appended claims. i

In accordance with this invention I provide a sanitary pad shield of flexible and pliable material, such as sheet rubber, adapted to be worn on the under or exposed side of the pad; Elongated strips are cut from the'longitudinal edges of the shield and folded over and upon the body of the" shield, forming loops with portions of the, body, for the purpose of encircling or surrounding sections of the pad being used therewith and holding the pad and shield together, during use.

Referring to the drawingin. detail, reference numeral I designates the blank of pliable material, such as rubber or similar substance. The blank, I, is made ofsubstantially the same shape however, it is preferred tomake it of slightly greater width than-said pad. Thisblank is out substantially at the center thereof along lines 2 and 3, which extend from each of the longitudinal edges of the blank inward a short distance toward the center of the blank. Incisions 4 and I extend parallel to the adjacentlongitudinal edge of the blank in opposite directionsfrom the cut 3. Likewisejthe cuts or incisions 5 and 6 extend in opposite directions from the cut 2, parallel'to the ad iacent edge of the blank. After these cuts are made, in any suitable. and convenient way, either mechanically or by manually operated tools or devices; the strips 40:, 5a,,6aand la are folded alongthe lines 4b, 52x65 and lb, respectively, to a form sanitary pad gripping or. encircling elements,

7 Furthermore, the use of the material removed from thesides of the blank permits the use ofa substantially rectangular blank of minimum size, and in this way economy in raw materialiseffected, since the number of waste pieces cut away from the blank is kept at a minimum. I V

Other modificationsof this invention may be made without departing from the spirit and scope' thereof, andQtherefore, while I have de- H scribed this invention in detail, it is, not desired to limit it to those details except in so far as they .are defined by the following claims.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:

1. A blank for a sanitary pad shield, comprising an elongated substantially rectangular piece of pliable material, having the corners thereof removed and having incisions extending adjacent to the longitudinal edges thereof and substantially throughout the length of said piece of material to form relatively narrow strips at the sides of said blank, said strips each being cut substantially through the middle thereof to formiree end strips adapted to be folded diagonally over the ends of said blank.

2. A blank fora sanitary pad shield, comprising an elongated substantially rectangular piece of pliable material, having the corners thereof removed and having incisions extending along the longitudinal edges thereof, said incisions being positioned substantially adjacent to said longitudinal edges to form relatively narrow free end strips at the sides of said blank, said strips each being of a lengthsufficient to extend diagonally across the ends of the said blank.
