  • FIG. 3 is a zoom view showing the self locking pivoting joint of the lower and upper sections.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Thousands of men and women across the country enjoy a fun and rewarding career as a professional barber or hairstylist. Hair professionals give buzz cuts and flat tops to colorful locals at a neighborhood barbershop, create trendy looks for teenage patrons at a crowded mall salon, or artfully craft signature styles for wealthy sophisticates at a day spa. Working as a barber or hairstylist also provides a creative outlet and enables the professional to inject a bit of their own personality into a particular hairstyle or application of color. As every salon professional knows, making clients happy and comfortable is a sure way to receive good tips and repeated business. Ensuring a sanitary environment, professional staff and welcoming atmosphere are crucial for a salon's success. There is always room for improvement. Salon professionals are continuously seeking new ways to meet the needs of their customers.
  • The present invention hereinafter referred to as GHR or Gerry's Head Rest, is designed to provide hair salon customers with a comfortable support for their head and neck while having their hair coifed. Gerry's Head Rest is a fully adjustable head rest configured to be easily installed on any existing salon chair. Comprised of a heavy duty plastic or metal skeleton, Gerry's Head Rest contains an elongated and fully adjustable support arm with an attached ergonomic head rest. Tubular in shape, the support arm is divided into an upper and lower section. The lower section measures approximately eighteen inches in length and the upper section measures approximately nine inches in length. These sections are comprised of telescoping components that can be lengthened or shortened to accommodate users of different statures. A simple adjustable screw is incorporated into the design for locking the desired positioning in place. The upper and lower sections are connected to one another by means of a pivoting locking arm. The user easily can adjust the angle of both the upper and lower support. Attached to the top of the unit by means of an additional pivoting pin is an ergonomically designed headrest. Rectangular in shape and gently contoured to accommodate the shape of the wearer's neck and head, this head rest measures approximately five inches in length by one inch in width. Cushiony soft, this headrest comprises a soft leather or comparable fabric covering and is generously padded for optimal comfort. Gerry's Head Rest is mounted to the existing salon seat or arms of the chair by means of a heavy duty two piece, pivoting clamp fastener measuring approximately four inches to five inches in length.
  • Using Gerry's Head Rest is very simple and straight forward. This device easily is mounted to any salon chair backrest by means of an adjustable pivoting clamp attached at the base of the unit. Once Gerry's Head Rest is positioned in place, the stylist simply adjusts the unit by raising, lowering or angling the support arm to accommodate the stature and positioning of the client's head. The client leans forward resting the forehead against the cushiony head rest, enjoying supreme comfort as their hair is cut or styled. After use, Gerry's Head Rest can be compacted and rested flush against the back of the chair, or it can left in place until it is needed again. Gerry's Head Rest enables customers to relax while having their hair done, eliminating sore neck, shoulders and back muscles often associated with long hours at the hair salon. Durably constructed of quality materials, Gerry's Head Rest will withstand repeated use for a long time.
  • Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.
