- 1. Field of the Invention
- Me multi-purpose lighter apparatus relates to cigar accessories such as a cigar splitter that may be used in combination with a lighter and, more specifically, to a safe and precise multi-purpose lighter apparatus for splitting a cigar or cigarillo along the length of its axis.
- 2. Background Art
- Cigar smoking has become a popular past time during the past decade. As cigar smoking has gained in popularity, so too have the accessories utilized to cut and light cigars and cigarillos. The proper tools for cutting and lighting cigars are perceived to enhance the cigar smoking experience. For example, many experienced cigar smokers will leave the head portion of the cigar in its finished, pre-smoked state until the cigar is ready to be smoked, in order to maximize the flavor and freshness of the cigar. Before smoking, the experienced cigar smoker will cut the finished head portion (i.e. the smoking end of the cigar which is placed in the user's mouth) of the cigar with a tool to provide a clean cut. It is well known in the art of cigar cutters to provide a guillotine style cutter which is used to clip the smoking end of the cigar. It is also known to provide a tubular cutter, or punch cutter, for forming a hole or opening in the smoking end of the cigar. Both types of cutters are well known in the art, as are v-shaped cutters, all of which provide a clean cut to ensure proper circulation through the body of the cigar when smoked.
- As is commonly the case, a split along the length of a cigar or cigarillo may be wanted. For various reasons, such as the insertion of flavor enhancers, easier draw, or the like, such splits are often highly desirable. However, few smokers have access to a proper tool for making such splits. Often pocket knives or razors are used, an obviously dangerous alternative practice. Further, the splits should be precisely made such that the length of the cigar or cigarillo wrapper is not distorted or unnecessarily damaged. A sloppy split can easily result in an unsmokable cigar or cigarillo. Further, the wrapper on the cigar or cigarillo may be an important flavor enhancer and ascetic feature. A poorly made split or a poorly made splitting tool can easily ruin the wrapper. With the cost of a good cigar or cigarillo often at a premium, this is an important consideration. The present apparatus provides a multi-purpose lighter apparatus that includes a splitter that is precise, safe to both user and cigar, and compact, thus eliminating the need for two or more separate items.
- Many social situations may call for the use of additional functional features in addition to a lighter and cigar splitter such as but not limited to a bottle opener, a removable pocket clip, a pocket light, a can opener, and the like. It is not unusual for more that one of these additional accessories to be required in every day social situations, and thus it would be convenient to further combine one or more of these tools onto the apparatus of the present invention, thus simplifying carrying them on one's person.
- The present invention comprises an apparatus or device that has one or more of the following features, which either alone or in any combination may comprise patentable subject matter.
- This invention generally relates to the attachment of smoker's tools to a cigarette, cigar, cigarillo, or pipe lighter apparatus. In another aspect, the present invention relates to smoker's tools that readily mount onto a lighter apparatus with the smokers tools being securely and functionally positioned. In still another aspect of the present invention, the tools may comprise a relatively inexpensive but useful smokers aftermarket accessory kit that preferably mounts onto what is commonly known as a disposable or throw-away lighter of the type marketed by BIC Corporation of Milford, Conn. The inventive elements may also be attached to refillable, non-disposable lighters as well such as those marketed by the ZIPPO Manufacturing Company.
- The general purpose of the multi-purpose lighter apparatus, described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a combination of at least a lighter and a cigar splitter that has many novel features that result in an improved lighter and cigar splitter apparatus that is not anticipated, rendered obvious, suggested, or even implied by prior art, either alone or in combination thereof.
- To attain this, the multi-purpose lighter apparatus provides a multi-purpose lighter apparatus comprising a lighter having a lighter body and a lighter cap, and a cigar splitter incorporated into the lighter body.
- Another embodiment of the present invention provides a multi-purpose lighter accessory for attachment to a conventional lighter, the multi-purpose lighter accessory comprising a frame capable of attachment to at least a portion of the conventional lighter, and a cigar splitter incorporated into the frame.
- The more important features of the multi-purpose lighter apparatus have only been broadly outlined so that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated.
- Accordingly, it is a principal aspect of the invention to provide a portable combination lighter and cigar splitter.
- One aspect of the present invention is to provide two or more housings wherein each housing comprises a hollow cylinder and a blade disposed in the center along the length of the cylinder.
- Another aspect of the present invention is to provide a cutting edge of a first blade oriented in a plane that contains the long axis of a first housing, for cutting an outer sheath of a cigar or cigarillo of a first diameter as the cigar or cigarillo is inserted through one end of the first housing and out the other end.
- Another aspect of the present invention is to provide a cutting edge of a second blade oriented in a plane that contains the long axis of a second housing, for cutting an outer sheath of a cigar or cigarillo of a second diameter as the cigar or cigarillo is inserted through one end of the second housing and out the other end.
- Another aspect of the present invention is to provide a loop attached to an outer surface of the multi-purpose lighter apparatus configured to receive either a chain or a keychain.
- Still another aspect of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for both opening up the wrapper or sheath of a cigar and lighting the cigar wherein the apparatus comprises a lighter having lighter frame and a cigar splitter attached to and/or incorporated into the lighter frame.
- Still another aspect the present invention of the present invention is to split a cigar along a chosen length of its axis.
- Still another aspect of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that is safe to use for both cigar and user alike.
- Yet still another aspect of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that is safe when stored.
