Abstract
The invention provides an apparatus and method for high-visibility work gear. The apparatus includes a main body portion. High-visibility elements are connected to the main body portion. Description
- 1. Field
- The embodiments relate to workmen accessories, and in particular to workmen accessories integrated with hi-visibility elements.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Workmen typically use accessories and work gear to assist them in performing their jobs, for example: tool bags, accessory bags, kneepads, etc. One problem with typical work gear items is that they are hard to see or find in the dark, which is a safety factor.
- One embodiment of the invention includes a high-visibility work gear apparatus. The apparatus includes a main body portion. High-visibility elements are connected to the main body portion. The high-visibility portions including a night-time light reflecting material and day-time high-visibility surrounding offset material.
- Another embodiment of the invention comprises a method including providing a work gear main body portion. Relevant portions of the work gear main body portion are determined for attaching high-visibility elements for increasing visibility of the work gear main body portion during light conditions and during dark conditions. The high-visibility elements are attached to the determined relevant portions of the work gear main body portion.
- Other aspects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, which, when taken in conjunction with the drawings, illustrate by way of example the principles of the invention.

Further, particular features described herein can be used in combination with other described features in each of the various possible combinations and permutations. Unless otherwise specifically defined herein, all terms are to be given their broadest possible interpretation including meanings implied from the specification as well as meanings understood by those skilled in the art and/or as defined in dictionaries, treatises, etc.
- The description may disclose several preferred embodiments of hi-visibility work items, as well as operation and/or component parts thereof. While the following description will be described in terms of hi-visibility accessories and devices for clarity and to place the invention in context, it should be kept in mind that the teachings herein may have broad application to all types of systems, devices and applications.
- One embodiment of the invention provides an apparatus and method for high-visibility work gear. One embodiment of the invention includes a high-visibility work gear apparatus. The apparatus includes a main body portion. High-visibility elements are connected to the main body portion. The high-visibility portions including a night-time light reflecting material and day-time high-visibility surrounding offset material.

FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention of a high-visibility kneepad system 100 including a firsthigh visibility element 120, a second high-visibility element 130, a first high-visibility strap 130, a second high-visibility strap 150, a high-visibility kneepad cap 160, anupper body portion 170 and alower body portion 180. upper body portion 170 has a contrasting color to the high-visibility element 120, such as a dark color (e.g., black, dark blue, dark grey, etc. In other examples, theupper body portion 170 may have other colors, such as camouflage, a bright color, etc. In one embodiment of the invention, thelower body portion 180 has a contrasting color to the high-visibility element 130, such as a dark color (e.g., black, dark blue, dark grey, etc. In other examples, thelower body portion 180 may have other colors, such as camouflage, a bright color, etc. - In one embodiment of the invention, the first high-
visibility strap 140 includes at least one highlyreflective material 145 that is surrounded by highly visibleoffset material portions visibility strap 140, and the second high-visibility strap 150 includes at least one highlyreflective material 155 that is surrounded by highly visibleoffset material portions visibility strap 150. visibility strap 140, and the second high-visibility strap 150 provide up to 360° of visibility during a low-light or dark setting. - In some embodiments of the invention, the high-
visibility kneepad system 100 may include more or less high-visibility elements, and more or less highly visible offset material portions. In one or more embodiments of the invention, the highly-visible kneepad system 100 may be removed by a user and used as a hand-held signaling device in a low light or dark setting. -
FIG. 2 illustrates a front view of the high-visibility kneepad system 100. In one embodiment of the invention, the high-visibility kneepad system 100 further includes adjustment andstrap coupling elements 190 andkneepad coupling elements 195. In one example, the adjustment andstrap coupling elements 190 are made of durable hardened plastic, hardened rubber, metal, metal alloy, composites, polymers, etc. material. In one example the adjustment andstrap coupling elements 190 do not include a highly-visible material or color. In another example, the adjustment andstrap coupling elements 190 andkneepad coupling elements 195 include high-visible material or colors for ease of use during low light or dark settings. In one embodiment of the invention, the adjustment andstrap coupling elements 190 are removably coupled to thekneepad coupling elements 195. It should be noted that other types of adjustment and strap coupling elements and kneepad coupling elements may be used in other embodiments of the invention. -
FIG. 3 illustrates a rear view of the high-visibility kneepad system 100. As illustrated, the high-visibility kneepad system 100 includes thekneecap holding portion 165, the upperrear portion 175, and the lowerrear portion 185. In one embodiment of the invention thekneecap holding portion 165, the upperrear portion 175, and the lowerrear portion 185 are not made of highly-visible material and do not have a highly-visible color. In other embodiments of the invention, thekneecap holding portion 165, the upperrear portion 175, and the lowerrear portion 185 may have highly-visible elements coupled for ease of finding the high-visibility kneepad system in a low light or dark setting when a small amount of light is reflected. -
FIG. 4 illustrates a front view of one embodiment of the invention of a high-visibility accessory orapron system 400. In one example, the high-visibility accessory system 400 includes afirst pouch system 405 and asecond pouch system 406. In one embodiment of the invention, thefirst pouch system 405 and thesecond pouch system 406 may be removably coupled to a utility belt. It should be noted that other embodiments of the invention may include only one of thefirst pouch system 405 or thesecond pouch system 406. In one example, thefirst pouch system 405 includes a firsthigh visibility element 410, second high-visibility elements 430, and a third high-visibility element 450. In another example, thesecond pouch system 406 includes a firsthigh visibility element 420, second high-visibility elements 440, and a third high-visibility element 460. FIG. 6 illustrates a perspective view of yet another example of work gear attached with high-visibility material according to one embodiment of the invention. In one example, the high-visibility tote orbag system 600 includes a first high-visibility handle 605, a second high-visibility handle 606, a first high-visibility strap 610, a second high-visibility strap 620, a first reinforcementreflective element 630, a second reinforcementreflective element 635, a high-visibility D-ring coupling element 640, a high-visibilityzipper handle tag 650, zipper handle 651 and high-visibility piping 660. - In one example, the first and second high-visibility handles 605 and 606 formed from the first and second high-
visibility straps ring coupler 640 and the high-visibility zipper tag 650, include highlyreflective material visibility handle 605 formed from the first and second high-visibility straps ring coupler 640 and the high-visibility zipper tag 650, include highlyreflective material material portions 611/612, 621/622, 641/642, and 652/653, respectively. - In one embodiment of the invention the highly visible offset

reflective material 645 is placed on D-ring coupling portion 640 to assist a user in a dark setting where light is reflected off the highlyreflective material 645 to assist in visually determining where the D-ring is located. In another example, the highlyreflective material 655 is placed on thezipper tag 650 to assist a user in a dark setting where light is reflected off the highlyreflective material 655 to assist in visually determining where thezipper handle 651 is located. In one example, the highlyreflective material straps reflective material handle 605 is located. In these examples, without the placement of the highlyreflective material handle 605, D-ring and zipper handle 651 are located. - In one embodiment of the invention, the highly visible offset

FIG. 7A illustrates a left-side view of the high-visibility tote orbag system 600. In one example, thezipper handle 651 does not include high-visibility element 650. As illustrated, high-visibility piping 660 surrounds the end of the high-visibility tote orbag system 600. In one example, the high-visibility piping not only reinforces the structural integrity of the high-visibility tote or bag system, it also increases visibility in a lighted or daylight situation. In one example, the high-visibility piping 660 has a bright or fluorescent appearance in daylight or a lighted setting, such as bright yellow, lime green, lime yellow, etc. -
FIG. 7B illustrates a right-side view of the high-visibility tote orbag system 600. As shown, areflective element 670 is coupled to an end of the zipper for reinforcement and also for visibility of the right side or end of the high-visibility tote orbag system 600. In one embodiment of the invention, the stitching surrounding the high-visibility tote orbag system 600 has a bright or fluorescent appearance in daylight or a lighted setting, such as bright yellow, lime green, lime yellow, etc. to increase daytime visibility.FIG. 8 illustrates a front view of the embodiment of the invention illustrated inFIG. 6 . -
FIG. 9 illustrates a rear view of the embodiment of the invention illustrated inFIG. 6 . From this view, the highly-visible tote orbag system 600 includes a third high-visibility strap 690, a fourth high-visibility strap 910, a third reinforcement reflective element 680, a fourth reinforcementreflective element 685, and a second high-visibility D-ring coupling element 940. - The third and fourth high-
visibility straps ring coupler 940 include highlyreflective material visibility handle 606 formed from the third and fourth high-visibility straps ring coupler 940 include highlyreflective material material portions 691/692, 911/912 and 941/942, respectively. - In one embodiment of the invention the highly visible offset

reflective material 945 is placed on D-ring coupling portion 940 to assist a user in a dark setting where light is reflected off the highlyreflective material 945 to assist in visually determining where the D-ring is located. FIG. 10 illustrates a block diagram of aprocess 1000 for attaching high-visibility material to work gear according to one embodiment of the invention.Block 1010 includes providing a main body portion for work gear, such as kneepads, pouch or apron systems, totes, bags, bucket organizers, etc. Inblock 1020, the relevant portions of the work gear are determined for attaching high visibility material. For example, if a high-visibility kneepad is used on an aircraft carrier or airport, the visibility requirements would be different than for roadwork. That is, the distance and angles of visibility determine placement, size, and color.
- In one embodiment of the invention, the dimensions of the highly reflective material may range from ¼ inch. to 2 inches or more in width, and the length may vary depending on the use and placement. In one embodiment of the invention, the high-visibility material may range from ¼ inch to 2 inches or more in width, and the length may vary depending on the use and placement.

Claims (29)
1. A work gear apparatus comprising:
a main body portion;
a plurality of high-visibility elements coupled to the body portion, the plurality of high-visibility portions including a night-time light reflecting material and day-time high-visibility surrounding offset material.
2. The work gear apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the main body portion is a kneepad.
3. The work gear apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the main body portion is a first bag, and the first bag is configured for coupling to a belt.
4. The work gear apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the main body portion is a utility bag.
5. The work gear apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of high-visibility elements are coupled to an upper portion and a lower portion of a front portion of the kneepad.
6. The work gear apparatus of claim 5 , further comprising high-visibility elements coupled to one or more fastening straps, wherein the plurality of high-visibility portions provide 360° of light reflecting material.
7. The work gear apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the high-visibility elements coupled to the one or more fastening straps, provide light reflecting material on both sides of the fastening straps.
8. The work gear apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the kneepad further includes a day-time high-visibility kneepad cap coupled to the front portion.
9. The work gear apparatus of claim 3 , further comprising a second bag.
10. The work gear apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of high-visibility elements are coupled to a plurality of pouch openings on the first bag and the second bag.
11. The work gear apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of high-visibility elements are coupled to a left side portion and a right side portion, under a middle pouch opening.
12. The work gear apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first bag and the second bag have a dark color to contrast with the plurality of high-visibility elements.
13. The work gear apparatus of claim 4 , further comprising high-visibility elements coupled to straps on a first side and a second side of the utility bag, wherein the straps form a handle on the first side and the second side of the utility bag.
14. The work gear apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising high-visibility elements coupled a zipper handle and one or more attachment rings.
15. The work gear apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising light reflective material coupled to fabric reinforcement elements.
16. The work gear apparatus of claim 15 , further comprising light reflecting material coupled to a pouch opening tab.
17. The work gear apparatus of claim 16 , further comprising a high-visibility inner bottom portion of the utility bag.
18. The work gear apparatus of claim 16 , further comprising high-visibility stitch piping.
19. The work gear apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the utility bag has a dark color to contrast with the plurality of high-visibility elements.
20. A method comprising:
providing a work gear main body portion;
determining relevant portions of the work gear main body portion for attaching high-visibility elements for increasing visibility of the work gear main body portion during light conditions and during dark conditions; and
attaching the high-visibility elements to the determined relevant portions of the work gear main body portion.
21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the main body portion is a kneepad.
22. The method of claim 21 , further comprising attaching high-visibility elements to one or more fastening straps of the kneepad.
23. The method of claim 20 , wherein the main body portion is a first bag, and the first bag is configured for coupling to a belt.
24. The method of claim 23 , further comprising attaching high-visibility elements to a plurality of pouch openings of the first bag.
25. The method of claim 20 , wherein the main body portion is a utility bag.
26. The method of claim 25 , further comprising attaching a high-visibility element to a zipper handle of the utility bag.
27. The method of claim 26 , further comprising attaching a high-visibility element to at least one coupling ring and a tab for a pouch latching element.
28. The method of claim 27 , further comprising attaching high-visibility stitch piping to portions of the utility bag.
29. The method of claim 20 , wherein the high-visibility elements comprise light reflecting material and high-visibility colored material.
