Abstract
The purpose of this invention is to allow the use of power roof vents in locations where they are otherwise undesirable. It disguises the power roof vent as a chimney and cap that are used with a combustible fuel source. This is accomplished by building a false chimney (that resembles a masonry or prefabricated chimney suitable for combustion gasses) and mounting the power roof vent on top of it.
The invention also increases the efficiency of power roof vents because of the “chimney effect” resulting from the power roof vent being mounted higher than the standard installation—directly on the roof. The chimney effect is as follows: Warm air moving up thru a space and out a vent creates a vacuum. This forces air up from lower level vents. The greater the difference in height between the high and low vents the more movement of air will take place.
Description
- This is an improvement on the power attic ventilator. The kind most typically installed on the roof surface with a dome type cover.
- Uses a chimney to change the mounting location of a power attic ventilator on a roof.
- A chimney resembling a masonry chimney or a prefabricated chimney unit, but not requiring combustible vent rating, is installed on a roof. A power attic ventilator is installed on top of it.
Claims (2)
1. Provides an aesthetically pleasing alternative to mounting a power attic vent on a roof. The result appears to be a high-temperature vent chimney with a dome cap typical of dwellings with fireplaces or wood stoves.
2. Increases the efficiency of power attic vents by mounting it higher resulting in a “chimney effect”.
