JACK
Filed April 29, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR. Joayu/mj. Tard/m ATTORNEY.
Patented Aug. 20, 1 93 5 I 3 Application April 29,
This invention relates-to lifting, devices jacks and has for oneof its objects the provision I of sucha device with which the, wheels of an automobile orother vehicle may be lifted off the.
1 ground by rolling or driving the said vehicle over a ramp forming a part of, the jack:
Another object of the invention is the provision ofsuch a device which may be adjusted to any required height without the operator having to lift the weight of the vehicle off the ground.
A'further object of the invention is the provi-.' sion of a jack of this character in which several points of adjustment are provided;
. A still further object of the invention provision ofsuch a jack, comprising a ramp, tapered block, or runway upon which a wheel of a vehicle may be driven by its own power and a jack block to receive and support the vehicle with one or more wheels off the ground so that the saidpwheel or wheels may be removed or replaced. 7
Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured. Other objects and advantages will appear as thenature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in able weight supporting block.
the novel arrangement and co relation of parts herein fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appendedclaims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment. thereof, but the invention is not tobe restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be FigureBis a perspective view of the combined adjusting wedge and guide, and

the entire length thereon If desirable a; rubber pad I 2 may be provided at the bottomefvthe, said base; Pivotally mounted'at l3 on the base I0 providedwithapain of rollersili; w I The carriage I5 is provided with a central opening I 1 in which there is slidingly mounted a block 1 l8 having a serrated top surface l9, the'carr'iage l5 being similarly serrated at its top surface 20.
v The block [8 may be vertically adjusted within the carriage l5 by means of a screw 2| which passes through athreaded opening 22 centrally located in the block ill. The screw M is provided with a knurled head 23 by which it may be turned I to raise or lower the block 18.
The slideway u may be tilted aboutits pivot and raised'by means of a combined guide and wedge 25 by moving the said wedge forwardly along the base. The said member comprises a' tapered or wedge shaped-base 26 and side walls 21 between which the slideway I4 is guided and is a slideway l' t- -in which-there is'slidingly sup-c I portecl a carriage. l5. The said carriage; may-be v maintained in vproperalinement withvthe base when in raised position.
Slidably or otherwise supported at the front of the base Hi there is a bar 28 upon which there is slidably supported a ramp, runway or tapered block 29 which is higher at the rear than at the front thereof. To remove a tire or wheel from a vehicle, the said vehicle is driven forwardly with one of its wheels 30 riding over the ramp 29. This action raises the vehicle sufficiently high enough so that a portion of the vehicle3l passes over the 7 block I 8. After the wheel passes the highest point of'the ramp 29, the said portion 3| will rest upon the serrated surface 19 of the block. Further movement of the vehicle willslide the carriage l5 and block IS in the direction of the-arrow 32 until" the said carriage abuts a stop 33 secured to the rear of the slideway M by means of a screw 34. The said stop 33 and combined wedge and guide 25 are joined together by a chain 35, the said chain being long enough to permit the wedge 25. to bemoved to the forward end of the base. With the carriage l5 against the stop 33, the tire may be removedand replaced and the vehicle backed off the device. x I
It will be'understood',thatbefore driving the vehicleover the ramp, the block I8 is first adjusted to a height suitable for the particular vehicle, the said adjustment being made by either the' s1idew ay,- a'stop. in the slideway for liiniting,
the sliding movement 'of the said member; and a ramp operativel'y associated with the base for the the screw 2| or the wedge 25 or both. In some cases, no adjustment maybe necessary and the vehicle may rest directly on the serrated surface of the carriage. The serrations on both the carriage and block are so arranged that the sup-' ported vehicle portion 3! cannot slip off. i
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I'have provided a simple and efficient jack which may be adjusted to any desiredheigh-t Without the operator having to raisethe weight: o f-the car While doing soastall,theadjustmentsmay be made. prior to the raising of the car, the car being raised when it isdrivenvover the ramp.
It will further be understood that the block may in some instances be omitted and the carriage may 'act as the vehicle supporting membe ra Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
