Abstract
This Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) is formed from two molded unitary suitable polymeric materials (2) pivoting at its midpoint (Fig. H). It works as a collaboration of the following parts: The Clamp Front Opening (Fig. J.), the Middle Holding Section (Fig. I) and the Clamp Handles (Fig. H). The clamp front opening (1) and (2 a) (Fig-J), is used to hold a catheter or I.V. bag or a drainage bag any general size. The Middle Holding Section (Fig. I) of the (U.D.B.H.) has an interior diameter coated with suitable synthetic polymeric material (2a) allowing the (U.D.B.H.) to clasp and hold firmly onto I.V. pole or object similar (i.e. Bedside pole) and is designed to hold both the weight of (U.D.B.H.) and the drainage bag and itself. The Clamp Handles (Fig. H) used to open and close the device and is held in place by a pivoting spiral coil (4).
Description
- I, Alma Bowers am the inventor of the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) The I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) as set forth in the following description, the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.)is a device used to hold a bedside drainage bag or catheter bag (similar) to an I.V. pole. This device will make it convenient for the patient to be mobile and take his/her drainage bag or catheter bag in a portable manner. This device will also save the nurse/practitioner time and the patient money since the clamping effect will replace time consuming taping, un-taping and re-taping of the bag to the I.V. pole. Traditional taping leaves a messy sticky residue increasing the potential to spread serious bacteria. The (U.D.B.H.) is environmentally friendly and is easy to sterilize. A new (U.D.B.H.), however would be recommended for each new patient.
- Fig. A—Figure A is a top view of the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) showing my design

- Fig. C—Figure C is the left side elevation view thereof;
- Fig. D—Figure D is a right side elevation view thereof;
- Fig. E—Figure E is a front elevation view thereof;
- Fig. F—Figure F is a back elevation view thereof;
- Fig. G—Figure G is a prospective view thereof;
- Fig. H—Figure H is partial view showing Clamp Handle Section thereof;
- Fig. I—Figure I is partial view showing Middle Holding Section thereof;
- Fig. J—Figure I is partial view showing Clamp Front Opening thereof;
- Fig. K—Figure H is an elevation view of the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) shown as it is used; clamped to an I. V. pole with drainage bad hooked onto the clamp. The pole is shown in broken line for illustrative purposes only and forms no part of claimed design.
- The overall function of the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) is to allow for portability of medical drainage bags or catheter bag and reduces the probability of the spread of bacteria when drainage bags transported in other ways. The user opens the device by squeezing the Clamp Handles (Fig. H) together which in turns opens and allows the device to be clamped onto an I. V. pole or bed side pole. While the clamp onto the pole, a bedside drainage bag or catheter bag in the front portion of the clamp, opposite the handle side as shown in (Fig. K).
- In the particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention illustrated, the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) is a tool used to hold the drainage or I.V. bag in a fixed position. It works as a collaboration of the following parts: The Clamp Front Opening (Fig. J.), the Middle Holding Section (Fig. I) and the Clamp Handles (Fig. H). The clamp front opening (as shown in Fig. J) is made of suitable polymeric material (1) and the inside mouth of the Clamp Front Opening is coated with suitable synthetic polymeric material (1 a), is used to hold a catheter or I.V. bag. It is designed to hold a drainage bag any general size. The Middle Holding Section (Fig. I) of the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) is made of polymeric material. The Middle Holding Section has an interior diameter coated with suitable synthetic polymeric material (2 a). The synthetic polymeric interior of the hollowed portion of the Middle Section allows the 1. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) to clasp and hold firmly onto I.V. pole or object similar (i.e. Bedside pole) and is designed to hold both the weight of I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) and the drainage bag and itself.
- The Clamp Handles (Fig. H) also made of polymeric material is used to open and close the device. It also serves as a pivot connector. It is held in place by a spiral coil (4). The spiral coil made of suitable metal wire material which allows the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) to pivot. The Spiral Coil also allows the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) to expand and retract (open and close) the device. The spiral coil is set and held in place by a coil pin setter (6) capped at both ends. There are Pin Coil Place Holders (5) on the outside of both Clamp Handles. The Pin coil Place Holders are small indentions made from the polymeric material of the Clamp Handles is used to prevent movement of the spiral coil from its desired fixed position.
Claims (1)
1. a I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) comprising: of two unitary molded unitary suitable polymeric materials pivots at its midpoint in the form of a pivoting clamp; when the (U.D.B.H.) is grasped and pinched at the clamp handles, (Fig. H). It allows for the front of the (U.D.B.H.) device to pivot and open, whereas the opposite (releasing the clamp handles) will close the (U.D.B.H.); after opening the (U.D.B.H.) it is then able to clamp onto any universal medical pole, (not included in this claim); and is also designed used to hold the weight of any type of generic medical drainage bag (or similar) the drainage bag hook (not included in this claim) is then placed into the Front Opening (Fig-J) of the (U.D.B.H.); overall the I. V. Pole Universal Drainage Bag Holder (U.D.B.H.) will allow a person to move freely, and provide expediency when replacing a drainage bag. It stability allows for several hours of use; it is safe, environmentally friendly and convenient.
