Abstract

A fitted top bed sheet and a method of making said sheet from a rectangular blank of sheet material are disclosed. The foot end of the sheet is formed into a pocket without having to cut any material by sewing a portion of the left side flap to the left side of the foot end and by sewing a portion of the right side flap to the right side of the foot end and tucking the remainder of the foot end under the mattress. Said fitted bed sheet facilitates making a bed and produces a neat appearance

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to the field of bed sheets. More particularly, this invention relates to a fitted top sheet that is specially designed and sewn so that the foot end of the sheet fits snugly over the foot of the mattress so that a neat appearance is produced without the need for the user to tuck and fold the corners at the foot end of the bed. The present invention is suitable for all standard size mattresses.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • People enjoy the appearance of a neatly made bed, so the ritual and chore of bed-making takes place daily in homes and institutions around the world. This can take an enormous amount of work; it is therefore desirable to produce a labor-saving device that eases and simplifies the task of making a bed. Much effort is expended in making up beds in hotels and hospitals, for example that could be more valuably spent on other tasks. Simplifying the task of making the beds of teenagers and of cribs would result in more bed being made on a daily basis.
  • Devices which attempt to ease and simplify the task of making a bed by modifying the top sheet have been developed in the past, and attempt to make bed-making easier, but these devices have not been completely successful. Devices such as those disclosed by U.S. Pat. Nos. 7,293,306; 6,892,404; 6,532,608; 4,777,894; and 4,308,626 address this issue. These patents, however, present difficulties in that they provide improvement in this regard but are generally too complicated to produce and use to provide the intended improvement.
  • An improved device is needed which is specifically designed to be simple and economical to manufacture, simple and straightforward to use and which provides a neat appearance.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive top sheet.
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive top sheet which is specifically designed to fit a standard size mattress.
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive crib size top sheet which measures forty two inches (42″) by seventy two inches (72″), to fit a standard crib size mattress which measures twenty eight inches (28″) by fifty two inches (52″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive twin size top sheet which measures sixty six inches (66″) by ninety six inches (96″), to fit a standard twin size mattress which measures thirty nine inches (39″) by seventy five inches (75″). It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive twin extra long size top sheet which measures sixty six inches (66″) by one hundred two inches (102″), to fit a standard twin extra long size mattress which measures thirty nine inches (39″) by eighty inches (80″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive double size top sheet which measures eighty one inches (81″) by ninety six inches (96″), to fit a standard double size mattress which measures fifty four inches (54″) by seventy five inches (75″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive queen size top sheet which measures ninety inches (90″) by one hundred two inches (102″), to fit a standard queen size mattress which measures sixty inches (60″) by eighty inches (80″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive standard or eastern king size top sheet which measures one hundred eight inches (108″) by one hundred two inches (102″), to fit a standard or eastern king size mattress which measures seventy six to seventy eight inches (76-78″) by eighty inches (80″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive standard California King size top sheet which measures one hundred two inches (102″) by one hundred ten inches (110″), to fit a standard or eastern king size mattress which measures seventy two inches (72″) by eighty four inches (84″).
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive top sheet which is specifically designed to fit a standard size mattress and makes the process of making a bed much simpler and easier.
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fitted top sheet in which the bottom corners are sewn in a specific pattern to produce a simple-to-use and attractive top sheet which is specifically designed to fit a standard size mattress and which keeps the sleeper more comfortable.
  • These and other features of the invention can be further understood by reference to the following drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 shows the fitted top sheet in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention, bottom surface facing up to show sewn segments.
  • FIG. 2 shows the fitted top sheet in accordance, upper surface facing up, in the preferred embodiment of the present invention applied to a standard mattress.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • As shown in FIG. 1, the present invention allows a person to make bed simply and easily, with the top sheet giving a neat appearance to the bed. As shown in FIG. 2, the fitted top sheet is simple to fold and sew, with no cutting required.
  • During the course of this description like numerals will be used to identify like elements according to the different figures which illustrate the invention. One embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. 1. The fitted top sheet generally referred to by reference numeral 10 is shown attached to a bed generally indicated by reference numeral 12. The fitted top sheet 10 consists of an upper surface 15 and a lower surface 16; a right side 17 and a left side 18; a head end 21 and a foot end 22. As shown in FIG. 2, in order to sew the corners at the foot of the bed, which are designed to fit the lower corners of the mattress, the fitted top sheet is placed on a platform with lower surface 16 facing upward. The fitted top sheet 10 is then folded over seventeen inches (17″), and stitched 5 inches (5″) straight in to point 31 on the right side 17, and then twenty inches (20″) to point 30 on the foot end 22. Point 31 is then folded over to point 22, leaving a straight line measuring between thirteen inches (13″) and fourteen inches (14″) on the foot end 22. This operation results in foot corner 28. The same operation is performed for the other foot corner 29
  • FIG. 2 shows the fitted top sheet generally referred to by reference numeral 10, shown attached to a bed generally indicated by reference numeral 12. The upper surface 15 is facing upward.
  • It is to be understood that variations and modifications of the present invention may be made without departing from the scope thereof. It is also to be understood that the present invention is not to be limited by the specific embodiments disclosed herein, but only in accordance with the appended claims when read in light of the foregoing specification.
