Abstract

Described herein is detachable luggage for an infant stroller, wherein the detachable luggage is safely and securely fastened to the infant stroller so that it does not affect the balance of the stroller, while having the convenience of being detached from the stroller.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Parents with small children are often seen in airports and train stations trying to juggle multiple bags or carrying heavy loads on their backs while simultaneously attempting to push their small children in their strollers. This feat is not accomplished without strenuous effort and aggravation. The detachable luggage of the present invention provides an easy and convenient alternative to the annoying bag-juggling, allowing luggage to be safely and securely attached to the stroller, while freeing the hands of the traveling parent.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to detachable luggages for stroller or wheelchair comprising a single or multiple compartments and having bottom wheels for mobility and to track the movement of the stroller or wheelchair, wherein said luggage unit is capable of being attached to the stroller or wheelchair via an attachment device.
  • Further, the invention relates to the detachable luggage as described or depicted in FIGS. 1-22.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • The invention provides a detachable luggage for a stroller (e.g., infant stroller) or wheelchair. The detachable luggage of the present invention is capable of safely and securely fastening to a stroller/wheelchair without affecting the balance or compromising the safety of the stroller/wheelchair itself. The luggage comprises a single or multiple internal and/or external compartments to hold or store goods.
  • The luggage of the invention may be made of a strong, flexible and/or stiff, hard material. Preferably the luggage unit comprises wheels at the bottom of the luggage for mobility. Additionally, the luggage unit may have hand grips for easy manipulation. Hand grips may be position at the top, side and/or back of the luggage.
  • The luggage has at least one opening for access to the stored goods. Preferably, the luggage has two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten or more openings. For example, there may be a separate opening for each of the internal and/or external compartments. The opening may be located on the top of the luggage, on the front (facing away from the stroller or wheelchair) and/or flank sides.
  • In certain embodiments, the detachable luggage is attached to the back of the stroller/wheelchair via an auxiliary platform having wheels. The auxiliary platform may remain attached to the stroller/wheelchair when the luggage is removed, or it may attach to the luggage so that the auxiliary platform and the luggage may both be detached from the stroller/wheelchair simultaneously. Alternatively, the wheeled platform and luggage may comprise an integrated unit. The detachable luggage is attached to the stroller or wheel chair via an attachment device (such as a fastener). Examples of attachment devices include, but are not limited to, buttons, hardware rings (e.g., D rings, and O rings), turn lock fastener, a buckle fastener (e.g., tension buckle or pillar buckle), latch (e.g., a push latch, push knob with latch, and slam latch), spring catch, zippers, clasp, clamp, snap, and Velcro strips. The attachment device may be made of metal for durability; and if a metal, preferably, a rust free metal or a metal treated with an anti-rust agent. Alternatively, the attachment device may be made of metal, plastic and/or fabric.
  • In certain embodiments, the detachable luggage is attached to the back of the stroller/wheelchair (like a rearcar) via an attachment device (such as a fastener) which connect the detachable luggage to the stroller/wheelchair.
  • In certain embodiments, the detachable luggage is attached to the side of the stroller/wheelchair (like a sidecar), via an attachment device (such as a fastener) on the detachable luggage, also as described above.
  • In certain embodiments, the detachable luggage can be used as a diaper bag, book bag, arts and crafts bag, and/or food carrier. In another embodiment, the detachable luggage includes a hands-free diaper bag which is more stable than a diaper bag hanging off a stroller/wheelchair. Also, the detachable luggage can include an attachment means to hang other bags (including a diaper bag) to the detachable luggage.
  • In the preceding specification, the invention has been described with reference to specific exemplary embodiments and examples thereof. It will, however, be evident that various modifications and changes may be made thereto without departing from the broader spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claims that follow. The specification and drawings are accordingly to be regarded in an illustrative manner rather than a restrictive sense.
  • ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
  • When the detachable luggage of the present invention is attached on the side of the stroller or vehicle like a sidecar, it has two significant advantages over the rearcar. The first advantage is practical. When pushing a stroller/wheelchair with a rearcar, a person has a limited range of practical mobility since he/she is highly likely to kick the rearcar when in motion. The second advantage is that the sidecar/stroller combination is more stable and balanced when the unit is in motion than the rearcar/stroller combination. When the rearcar/stroller combination is in motion, in particular, when the unit is at an angle (and thus up- or downhill), the rearcar may cause the stroller to lift off the ground and become unbalanced. The sidecar is less likely to cause the stroller to come off the ground in this situation.
