1 Claim.
This invention relates to a woven wire fabric which is more particularly intended for use as a screen in banks to protect officers from bullets 5 fired from arms in the hands of bandits, but the same may also be used for other purposes. 7
It is the object of this invention to provide a fabric in which helical transverse wires are interwoven with longitudinal wires so as to produce a product which is closely knit so as to serve as a protection against an attack by. bandits using firearms. r

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary plan view showing the woven wire fabric made in accordance with my improvements.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same taken on line 2-2, Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference indicate like parts in both figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral represents a plurality of warp or longitudinal wires which in some instances may be somewhat wavy in the actual fabric, but are represented in the drawing as straight for convenience of illustration. These longitudinal or warp wiresv are separated from each other a suitable dis-' The several transwires passes over one of the longitudinal wires anda turn of an adjacent helical wire passes under the same longitudinal wire. In the completed fabric the several helical transverse wires are closely assembled so that the curved parts of the turns of one set of alternate transverse wires are located between adjacent longitudinal wires and trend in one direction and are nested in the curved parts of the turns of the set of alternate 10 transverse wires.
r A tightly woven fabric is thus formed which is practically bullet-proof inasmuch as a bullet fired against the same will not be able to penetrate the fabric but instead will rebound or richochet due to theplurality of inclined surfaces which are presented to the bullets by the turns of the helical transverse wires, and thus save from harm anyone who is protected by this fabric against attack by bandits using firearms. 20
This fabric is also useful as a fine screen in which a very strong durable surface is required to resist wear and yet suificient openings must be present to permit any liquid to be drained readily from a mass of solid matter.
I claim as my invention:
A woven wire fabric comprising a plurality of straight longitudinal wires, and a plurality of helical transverse wires, the transverse wires being interwoven with the longitudinal wires so 30 that adjacent transverse wires pass under and over the same longitudinal wire and each transverse wire passes over one and under the next adjacent longitudinal wire, said adjacent helical transverse wires trending in opposite directions and being closely woven whereby the several wires form a tightly woven fabric.
