When for example, the boiler ii, to which is attached the riser conduit l d, is leaning to the right, the obvious result is that more coal will be delivered to the right side of the distributor plate and consequently to the right side of the boiler However, in the present construction, under such circumstances, the bolts 3% are loosened and the distributor plate is rotated counterclockwise about its longitudinal center line, which is determined by the axis of the pivot pin 28, to assume a horizontal position or even tilted to the left. Since the slots 3i are elongated and slight ly arcuate in shape, the distributor plate may be turned at an angle with respect to the riser conduit, without removing the bolts 35, and when the plate is placed in the desired position, the bolts are tightened, again securing the plate and distributor head to the riser conduit mouth portion. The resul u of this arrangement is that when the plate is tilted in the desired position, the right side of the distributor head 22 projects above the level of the floor of the discharge box or mouth portion l8 a certain amount, the other side of the plate being lowered a corresponding amount. Therefore, even though more coal is brought up on the right side of the discharge box or mouth portion, the distributor head 22 acts as a dam or obstruction and holds back the excess of coal, which now must overflow that side of the dis tributor head before it can fall onto the distributing plate. This then permits an even delivery of coal onto the plate, and consequently, an even distribution of coal over the boiler firebox. To insure a close fit between the lower wall of the discharge box mouth portion ili adjacent the recess 5d and the distributor plate sidewalls and still permit rotation of the plate, the sides of the plate adjoining its end wall 5% are provided with the curvate surfaces 53 and the sides of the recess 50 are correspondingly curved.
Particularly devised and arranged means are provided for rotating the plate from without the riser conduit mouth portion. This means in cludes a horizontal flange 32 extending laterally from a sidewall of the discharge box or mouth portion 58, provided with an opening 33. A nut 34 is received in the opening 533 and is provided with the flanges 35 and 36 engaging the marginal top and bottom edges of the flange 32 defining the opening 35. The nut 34 is preferably com posed of two interthreaded members 3? and $8 for assembly purposes. Sufficient clearance is permitted between the nut and the marginal edges of the flange 32 defining the opening 33, to permit the nut 3 5 to be loosely mounted thereon.
The not St has a threaded operung 39 therethrough for receiving a threaded stud 48, which is arranged to move up when the nut is turned in one direction and down when the nut 33 is turned in the opposite direction. Movement of the threaded stud is in turn communicated to the transversely extending stud ti which is threaded into the side of the distributor plate 2!. Thus by turning the nut thereby raising or lowering the threaded stem the distributor plate is rotated about its longitudinal center line.
We claim:
1. In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box commruiicating with said firing opening, a fuel distributing device, including a plate-like member and means for projecting fuel thereover, extending forwardly from said discharge box and arranged to receive fuel therefrom, said fuel distributing device being arranged to be adjustable as a unit pivotally about its longitudinal center line, said member and said means remaining in the same relative position with respect to one another.
2. In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, a fuel distributing device, including a plate-like member and means for projecting fuel thereovor, extending forwardly from said discharge box through said firing opening, said fuel distributing device being arranged to be adjustable as a unit pivotally about its longitudinal center line, and means for securing said fuel distributing device rigidly in its adjusted position.
3. In combination, a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said opening, a distributor plate extending forwardly from said discharge box and arranged to receive fuel therefrom, said plate being provided with a recess in its central rear portion, a distributor head fitted in said recess and arranged to issue a blast of pressure fluid across said distributor plate, means for rigidly securing said plate and head together, said distributor plate and distributor head being ar ranged for adjustment as a unit pivctally about their common longitudinal center line.
l. In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face and a circular recess in said front face of said lower wall portion, a fuel distributing device having a rearwardly extending circular lug received in said circular recess forming a pivot for said fuel distributing device, said fuel distributing device bein secured to said dis charge box and adjustable wi h respect thereto.
5. In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face, and a circular recess in said front face of said lower Wall portion, a fuel distributing device having a rearwardly extending circular lug received in said circular recess forming a pivot for said distributing device, means for adjusting said fuel distributing device about said pivot and means for rigidly securing said fuel distributing device to said discharge box in its adjusted position.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face, and a circular recess in said front face of said lower wall portion, a distributor plate extending forwardly from said discharge box and arranged to receive fuel therefrom, said plate being provided with a recess in its central rear portion, a distributor head fitting in said last named recess, means for rigidly securing said distributor plate and distributor head together, said distributor head having a rearwardly extending lug received in said circular recess forniing a pivot for adjustment of said distributor plate and distributor head with respect to said discharge box.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face, and a circular recess in said front face of said lower wall portion, a distributor plate extending forwardly from said discharge box and arranged to receive fuel therefrom, said plate being provided with a recess in its central rear portion, a distributor head fitting in said last named recess, means for rigidly securing said distributor plate and distributor head together, said distributor head having a rearwardly extending lug received in said circular recess forming a pivot for said distributor plate and dis tributor head, means for adjusting said distributor plate and distributor head about said pivot and means for rigidly securing said distributor plate and distributor head to said discharge box in its adjusted position.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening having its lower wall portion provided with a transversely extending front face, said front face being recessed and having a circular cavity in the front face of said recessed portion, a distributing device fitted in said recess, comprising a distributor plate and a distributor head, said distributor head being secured rigidly with the rear of said distributor plate and having a circular lug extending rearwardly therefrom and arranged to be received in said circular cavity forming a pivot for adjustment of said distributor plate and distributor head with respect to said discharge box.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening having its lower wall portion provided with a transversely extending front face, said front face being recessed and having a circular cavity in the front face of said recessed portion, and a distributing device fitted in said recess, said distributing device having a rearwardly extending circular lug arranged to be received in said circular cavity forming a pivot for adjustment of said distributing device with respect to said discharge box.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face provided with a recess, the forward face of said recessed portion having a circular cavity, a distributor plate fitted in said recess,
said distributor plate being provided with a recess in its central rearportion, a distributor head fitting in said recess, means for rigidly securing said distributor plate and distributor head together, said distributor head having a rearwardly extending circular lug received in said circular cavity forming a pivot for said distn'butor plate and distributor head, means for adjusting said distributor plate and distributor head about said pivot and means for rigidly securing said distributor plate and distributor head. to said discharge box in its adjusted position.

As a new article of manufacture, a fuel distributor comprising a fiat plate having side and end faces, one of said end faces being provided with a recess intermediate said side faces, each of said side faces being formed with an outwardly curvate surface adjoining said recessed end face and the portions of said'end face defining the recess being each provided with a slot curved coaxial with the curvate surface of said side faces.

As a new article of manufacture, a fuel distributor comprising a plate having a flat surface and depending side and end walls, one of said end walls being provided with a recess intermediate said sidewalls, each of said side walls being formed with an outwardly curvate sur face adjoining said recessed end wall, the portions of said end wall defining said recess having curved slots therethrough, the curvature of said slots being coaxial with the curvature of the curvate surfaces of said side walls.

A fuel distributing device comprising in combination, a distributor plate having a flat surface and depending side and end walls, one of said end walls being provided with a recess intermediate said sidewalls, each of said sidewalls being formed with an outwardly curvate surface adjoining said recessed end wall and a distributor head received in said recess, said distributor head rising above the surface of said plate, a plurality of jet openings in said distributor head directed over the surface of said plate, a circular lug formed with and projecting outwardly from the central portion of said distributor head rear wall, and means for securing together said plate and head in operative position.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face, a fuel distributing device extending forwardly from said discharge box, said fuel distributing device having a rearward face abutting said transversely extending face, one of said faces being provided with a circular cavity and the other of said faces being provided with a circular lug arranged to fit snugly in said circular cavity partially holding said fuel distributing device and said discharge box in assembled relation and providing for relative pivotal movement therebetween about their common longitudinal center line, means for adjusting said distributing device about said pivot and means for rigidly securing said distributing device to said discharge box in its adjusted position.

In a furnace provided with a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, the lower wall portion of said discharge box having a transversely extending front face provided with a recess, a fuel distributing device fitted in said recess and having its rearward face abutting the forward face of said recessed portion, said last named faces being provided one with a circular cavity and the other with a circular lug arranged to fit snugly in said circular cavity partially holding said fuel distributing device and said discharge box in assembled relation and providing for relative pivotal movement therebetween about their common longitudinal center line, means for adjusting said distributing device about said pivot and means for rigidly securing said distributing device to said discharge box in its adjusted position.

In combination, a boiler furnace provided with a firebox having a firing opening, a fuel discharge box communicating with said firing opening, said discharge box being rigidly fixed to said boiler furnace and movable therewith, a fuel distributing device including a fuel receiving member extending forwardly from said discharge box and means for projecting fuel across said fuel receiving member, and means for pivotally adjusting said distributing device as 21.
unit about its longitudinal center line in one of a number of positions independently of the movement of said boiler furnace and discharge box.

As a new article of manufacture, a fuel discharge box having a fuel receiving opening and a fuel discharge opening, 1e lower wall portion of said discharge box adjacent its discharge opening having a forward face extending transversely of the longitudinal axis of the discharge box, a recess in said forward face, a circular cavity formed in the forward face of the recessed portion of said lower wall portion, said cavity being disposed centrally in the forward face of said recessed portion, the opposite side faces of said lower wall portion defining said recess having concave surfaces coaxial with the 1ongitudinal medial line of the lower wall portion.
