' Claims. (01.2 1-43.7)
This invention relates toa rnechanism designed for use in building the bunch on filling the quills employed as part of spinning .machine construction, and aims to improve generally the construction of the bunch builder bobbin formin attachment, for spinning machines, shown and described in my Patent No. 1,797,353, issued March 24, 1931.
An important object of the invention is the provision of means for insuring the positive operation of the ring Tail of the spinning frame, whereby the bunch will be properly and accurately formed, with a minimum amount of Waste of yarn.,
Another object of the invention is to provide means for regulating the operation .of the bunch builder arrn of the device, vvhereby the size and. construction of the bunch may be regulated to meet various requirements.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination .and arrangement of parts and in thedetails of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made Within the Scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings: V
Figure 1 is an elevational view Of the bunch builder arm of the bunch building mechanism, illristrating the camsin their initial positions.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the builder arm, taken from the opposite side of the builder arm.
Figure 1 is a sectional view taken on line .4--4 of'Figure 1. V
Figure 5 is a detail view. illustrating the position of the fingered cam, when the builder arrn is operating under the action of the main cam of the mechanismi Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the builder arm of the bunch builder, forming the subject matter of this invention, and as shown, this arm 5 is pivotally mounted on the base of the spinning frame at 6, thereby providing what may be termed a long arm and a short arm.
Extending from the short arm of the builder arm 5, is an extension arm 'I which may be adjusted vertically by means of the set screw 8, there being provided a counterbalancing weight 9, mounted on the extension arrn 'I.
Connected With the builder arm 5, near the extremity of the long arm thereof, is the builder 'chain indicated by the reference character lil, which builder chain connects`with the usual actuating arrn of the ring rail, not shown, and transmits movement-to the ring rail, feeding the yarn to the quill, during the filling of the quill. It will, of course, be understood that the ring rail is of the usual and well known construction, and operates-to guide and. regulate the yarn -asit is being fed into the quill, thereby insuring against the filling becoming tangled and irregularly formed on the quill.
- Supported by the builder arrn cam II formed with cam fingers I2 extending from the peiiphery thereof, a portion of the cam ll being cut away, as clearly shown by Figure 5 of the drawings, for purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.
Arcuate-shaped openings 1.3 are formed in'the cam I I, which accommodate the bolt I4, the bolt extending inwardly to a point where it will engage the rib or flange formed on the bar 22 of the machine, vvhereby rotary movement of the cam I I will be restrc-ted. v Pivotally mounted on one of the fingers of the cam ll, is a curved arm IG that carries a roller Il at its outer end. One end of the arm IS is formed withan extension 18 adapted to engage the stop 19, restricting movement of the curved arm 16 in one direction. 2
This cam I I is mounted on the bolt or shaft 20 that extends through the elongated opening 2I of the bar 22, which forms a part of the bracket 23 that is bolted to the frame of the machine, by means -of the bolt 24- Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the cain Il may be raised and lowered, to properly adjust the cam, and that cam`26 does not operate the builder arm 5, while the builder arm is being operated by the cam ll.
Mounted on the Shaft 20 is a coiled spring 25 that has one end thereof anchored at the outer end of the shaft, while the inner end is Secured to the cam ii, so that after the cam ll has rotated a predetermined distance, the spring 25 will be placed under tension, and when the cam has been released in a manner to be hereinafter more fully described, the spring will act to rotate the cam, returning the cam to its initial position.
The reference character 26 designates the main cam of the mechanism, and operates against the roller 21, that in turn is mounted Within the frame 28 that is bolted to the builder arm 5- Cooperating with the iingers I2 of the cam H,
5, is a mutilated the outer ends of the lingers 12, moving against these surfaces will bridge the When the cam 29 is moving over the roller I'I, the main cam is held out of contact with the roller 2? .and is not at this period of the reiilling operation, operated by the main cam :26-
formation of the edge of the cam.
This action causes the yarn to cross more rapto be imparted to the builder arm,
olution, the cam 29 engages the pivoted member 16, and swings the pivoted member l 6 to the position shown by Figure 5, whereupon continued cam 253 merely operates to rotate the roller il', allowing the builder cam to operate a full Stroke in the illing of the quill.
When the quill has been iilled, the doifer operatos a mechanism not shown, causing the builder arm to move downwardly, whereupon the iingered. cam returns to its normal position, at the action of. the spring 25.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A bunch forming and quill Iilling mechanisrn, comprising a pivoted builder arm, .a rotary earn Incunted on the builder arm, a plurality of spaced fingers on the rotary cam, there being between certain of the ingers, a member prvotally mounted on one of the iingers and adapted to normally lie within the space, a main cam operating to operate the builda cam operat1ng with the main cam and fingered cam Whereby the ates the builder arm its full Stroke thus lling the quill. o
2. The combination with a spinning machine and the bunch builder arm and quill filling mechanism thereof, of a bunch forming device comprising a rotary ingered cam mounted on the builder arm, a cam engaging the lingered cam and adapted to rotate the lingered cam whereby the builder arm is operated to build the bunch of the quill,
gered cam to its initial position. V
3. A bunchforming and. quill iilling mechastroke, and the I'ingers`of the iingered cam moved out of engagement with the small cam.
4- A bunch forming and. quill illing mechacam adapted to impart vertical movement to the bunch building arm, a substantially small cam associated with the main cam, a I'ingered cam on the builder arm and aclapted to be engaged by the cam and engaged by for moving the builder arm out of operative relation with the main cain, means for returning the ingered cam to its normal position, means for adjusting the ngered cam whereby the initial position of the frngered cam is varied, and. said small cam adapted to move over the pivoted member whereby the main cam operates the builder arm its full Stroke filling the quill.
5. A bunch forming and quill filling mechanism, comprising a pivoted bunch builder arm, a ring rail actuating chain connected to the arm and actuated by the bunch builder arm, a main cam adapted to move the arm downwardly, a cam supported adjacent to the main cam and rotatable therewith, a mutilated iingered cam mounted on the bunch builder arm, the fingers of the last mentioned cam engaging the second mentioned cam operating the bunch builder arm, a pivoted member mounted on the ingered cam adjacent to the mutilated portion of the cam and adapted to be engaged by the second mentioned cam whereby a long Stroke is transmitted to the bunch builder arm, and means for releasing the arm to the action of the main cam whereby the arm is operated to fill the quill.
