  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • A device for attaching to wedge striking surface 20 includes detachable putter head 22, as shown in FIG. 1. Detachable putter head 22 includes putter striking surface 24 and attaching surface 26, as shown in FIGS. 2 a-2 d and FIGS. 3 a-3 e. Attaching surface 26 is for attaching to wedge striking surface 20. Attaching surface 26 is at an angle in the range from 45 to 60 degrees with respect to putter striking surface 24, as shown in FIG. 3 b.
  • In one embodiment the angle is about 55 degrees which allows for use on a range of wedges, as shown in FIG. 3 b.
  • In the embodiments shown in the figures, detachable putter head 22 includes magnets 30 a-30 b, as shown in FIGS. 4 a, 4 e and FIG. 5 a. Attaching surface 26 attaches to wedge striking surface 20 with magnets 30 a-30 b. Magnets 30 a-30 b are connected to attaching surface 26 with screws. In one embodiment, in forming detachable putter head 22 plastic is injection molded to hold magnets 30 c-30 d in place on attaching surface 26. Different sized magnets can be used. Magnets 30 a, 30 b are included in recessed regions in attaching surface 26. Other recessed regions 32 can be provided to reduce the weight and cost of detachable putter head 22. Other schemes for attaching detachable putter head 22 can be used, including a strap, an elastic band, and a clamp.
  • Wedge striking surface 20 has an area, and attaching surface 26 covers at least 40% of that area when detachable putter head 22 is mounted to wedge striking surface 20.
  • In one embodiment, detachable putter head 22 includes plastic portion 36, as shown in FIGS. 4 a-4 e and FIG. 5 a-5 b. Plastic portion 36 can include polycarbonate. In this embodiment putter striking surface 24 includes metal strike plate 38, such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass, titanium, and alloys. Metal strike plate 38 is adhesively attached to plastic portion 36. A double stick adhesive tape (not shown) can be used.
