The flaps 6 and one of the flaps 4 are of desired length but the second flap 4 is of a length to allow the same in making a package to be swung entirely across the upper portion of the box C and tucked down between the first panel 3 and the adjacent side wall of the box or kindred container as is clearly illustrated in Figure 9 of the drawings.

After the unit has been initially applied within the box C or kindred container as particularly illustrated in Figures 5 and 6, the uppermost flap 4 is pulled up and outwardly of the box as illustrated in Figures 7 and 9 to bring one of the side panels 3 in proper position against a side wall of the box. The flaps 6 of the end'panels 5 are then successively pulled up to bring the panels 5 in proper position against the end walls of the box with said flaps 6 disposed outwardly thereof as is illustrated in Figures 7 and 8 of the drawings.

The second flap 4 is then pulled up to bring the second side panel 3 into proper position against a side wall of the box or the like with said second flap 4 disposed outwardly with re spect to the box as is also illustrated in Figures 7 and 9. After the box has been filled with the desired content, such as fruit, the flaps 8 are then swung inwardly of the box and over the top of its content and the shorter flap 4 is then swung inwardly and after which the longer flap 4 is drawn across the box withvthe extremity of said longer flap 4 tucked in between the side panel 3 and the adjacent side of the box C remote from the side panel 3 by which the longer flap 4 is carried.

In view of the'foregoing it is believed to be clearly apparent that Ihave produced a liner pack unit for boxes or kindred containers which can be readily applied without any particular skill on the part of the operator and particularly to assure the proper placing of the lining with dispatch.

In the embodiment of the invention as illustratedin Figure 10, I disclose a unit made from a single sheet of material and which comprises a central panel 1 of such dimensions to be snugly received upon the bottom of a box or kindred container with the side margins of the panel l continued by the side panels 3 which are also continued by the flaps 4 one of which being of a length to extend entirely across the top of the box and to have its extremity tucked in in the same fashion as has hereinbefore been set forth with respect to the first embodiment of my invention. ' From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that my invention is susceptible of somechange and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a preformed liner pack unit ready for use comprising two elongated flexible sheets disposed crosswise upon each other with substantially the central portions thereof superimposed, the four resulting flaps of the above assembly constituting side elements of the liner and lying in the pack superimposed upon each other and fiat upon the central portions of the elongated members.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a preformed liner pack unit ready for use comprising two elongated flexible sheets disposed crosswise upon each other with substantially the central portions thereof superimposed, the four resulting flaps of the above assembly constituting side and cover elements of the liner and lying in the pack superimposed upon each other and flat upon the central portions of the elongated members.
