Description
- This application emanates from a previously filed provisional application; 61/056,926 Filed on May 29, 2008
- This invention relates to portable wine bottle carriers and more particularly to a carrier suitable for porting one bottle of wine with a special message attached thereto.
- Fabric wine bags have been available in retail markets and shops for many years in a variety of fabrics and are popular gift items. The uniqueness of this product is the combination of high quality, heavy weight decorative fabrics to fabricate the bag itself, with an affixed fabric label containing a special message similar to the brief but meaningful messages contained in greeting cards. The tie cord serves both a practical and decorative purpose in order to gather the top of the wine bag around the stem of the bottle, but also enhances the appearance of the wine bag by virtue of its decorative quality. Because of the fabric quality and design of this product, as well as the quality, design and special message imprinted, embroidered or embossed on the affixed label, it can be described as an “heirloom” product, i.e a product that contains so much inherent quality and meaning that it tends to be retained by the person who receives the gift as deeply sentimental memorabilia, and may even be passed on to others by the original gift recipient in order to share with them the deeply sentimental value of the gift.
- The present invention provides an aesthetically pleasing heirloom gift wine bag which maintains wine bottles carried therein and preferably cushioned relationship so as to prevent the bottles from striking against outside objects to preclude breakage of the bottle. Briefly, the heirloom gift wine bag of the invention comprises a tote bag having a non-rigid bottom and sides and an open top with affixed special message fabric label and affixed decorative tie cord.
- High quality heirloom gift wine bag is constructed of heavy weight decorative fabrics, such as upholstery fabrics, including but not limited to tapestries, jacquards, silks, brocades, etc., with affixed special message fabric label and affixed decorative tie cord. The bag is designed in varying dimensions to accommodate standard 750 ml wine bottles, 750 ml champagne bottles, or other fine quality bottled beverages. The brief but meaningful message is imprinted, embroidered or embossed onto the affixed fabric label and is similar to the brief but meaningful messages contained in greeting cards.
- FIG. 1—Exterior View of Invention
- FIG. 2—View of Exterior Affixed Label
- The invention (
FIG. 1 ) consists of a luxury container for wine bottles (1) constructed of high quality home decorating fabrics ranging from light weight silk fabric to heavy weight upholstery fabric in varying dimensions to accommodate standard 750 ml wine or champagne bottles or other fine quality bottled beverages. The illustrated iteration of this invention (FIG. 1 ) is fabricated in such a way that the seam margins on each side (2) (3) and at the bottom (4) of the container are not visible on the exterior of the container, and the open top of the container (5) is finished so that the unfinished edge of the fabric is not visible. The top of the container remains open permitting a wine bottle to be inserted into the container, and a decorative tie cord (6) is affixed to the bag so that the top of the container can be gathered around the neck of the bottle after the bottle is inserted into the container. The placement of the beverage bottle within the container is illustrated by means of dotted lines (FIG. 1 ). A sizeable and easily readable decorative fabric label (7) is affixed prominently to one side of the invention, causing that side to be the front side, containing a deeply meaningful sentimental message (seeFIG. 2 for a typical special message label). The special sentimental message is imprinted, embroidered or embossed onto the affixed decorative fabric label. - To construct this unique beverage bottle container the decorative fabric is first cut in two pieces to a size somewhat greater than the size of the finished container by means of a template. The special message label is then affixed to the front side of one of these pieces intended to be an exterior side of the wine bag either by sewing the label to the fabric or some other means. The two pieces of fabric are then matched to each other with the label inside and sewn along the margins, leaving one side open at the “top” of the container for eventual insertion of the beverage bottle. Once the two pieces of fabric have been sewn together, the margins along the three sewn-together sides are serged by means of a serging machine in order to remove excess fabric beyond the seam. The container formed by this process is then turned inside out so that the seam margins are not visible outside the container and the label is now showing on the exterior of the container. The decorative tie cord is affixed by sewing it to the top of the container bag at one point so that it can be used to tie the top of the container after insertion of the beverage bottle. The tie cord serves both a practical and decorative purpose.
