Abstract
An acoustic treatment nesting corner mount for mounting acoustic panels in a corner of a room. The nesting corner mount allows for the installation of two or more acoustic treatments, nested one behind the other, in a corner of a room to enhance the acoustics of the room.
Description
- This invention relates to a device for mounting dual layered, nested, acoustic treatments into a room corner.
- Mounting brackets are well known in the arts for mounting a variety of items onto a wall, ceiling or floor.
- Acoustic treatments have long been used by engineers, architects, musicians, audiophiles and sound technicians to improve the acoustic characteristics of venues of every nature including offices, classrooms, lecture halls, factories, opera houses, arenas, theaters, broadcast facilities, and recording studios.
- Acoustic treatments are coming into more common usage as a result of technological advancements leading to increasing affordability of high quality sound reproduction and other critical listening equipment. As a result, even homes are becoming common locations for high quality music reproduction systems, movie theaters, and recording studios.
- Acoustic treatments are designed to absorb or redirect sounds which would otherwise reflect from boundaries [such as walls, ceilings or floors] so as to cause undesirable acoustic conditions such as higher perceived noise levels, lower speech intelligibility, or other diminution of a listener's ability to accurately perceive music, dialogue, or other acoustic events.
- Acoustic treatments come in the form of tiles, plates, mats or panels, which are either built into the interior finishes of a room or added as modular units to mounted on the room boundaries; typically the walls and ceiling.
- It is understood by those skilled in the art that corner mounting acoustic treatments so that the device straddles the diagonal of a corner will enhance the effectiveness of such devices at lower frequencies. The present invention provides a means to mount two or more such acoustic treatments in a single corner by nesting the devices, one behind the other, and has many advantages over the current corner mounted acoustic treatment solutions for enhancing sound quality, including ease of use, affordability, and increased acoustic performance.
- According to the present invention, the nesting corner mount allows acoustic treatments to be easily mounted into a corner in either vertical or horizontal aspect [for example, either a wall-wall corner, or a ceiling-wall corner], and for two or more acoustic treatment devices to be mounted, one behind the other, in a nested fashion, thereby increasing efficiency. The nesting corner mount is attached to a wall and an acoustic treatment panel is attached to the outer surface of the device, so that it straddles the corner diagonally, creating a space behind the panel. A second acoustic treatment panel is attached to the mount, behind the first mounted panel, thereby improving the performance of the corner mounted acoustic device.
- The nested corner mount is an angularly configured band of sheet metal, or other durable material, with strategically placed holes and slots, or other elements intended to accommodate the attachment of the mount into a corner and the subsequent attachment of multiple acoustic treatments onto the mount and thereby into a single corner, thus increasing the acoustic performance of the corner treatments versus the use of a single acoustic treatment and thereby allowing improvement to be made to the acoustics of a room.
- The bracket allows the nested corner mounting of several types of acoustic treatments including membrane, or porous absorbers and/or acoustic diffusers in any number of configurations of concatenation of acoustic treatments.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view from the front (room side) of the mount. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view from the back (corner side) of the mount. -
FIG. 3 is a top view showing the angular bends of the mount. -
FIG. 4 is a graph of showing the increased acoustic absorption performance of a pair of nested corner mounted porous absorber panels versus a single corner mounted panel. - Referring to
FIG. 1 , a nesting corner mount 1 is shown, having aface panel mount 2, anupper edge 3, alower edge 4, a right side angledcorner mount member 5, a left side angledcorner mount member 6, and two angled nestedpanel mount extensions 7, each extending from the right and left side angledcorner mount members - The
face panel mount 2 has a right sideangled edge 8 and a left sideangled edge 9, the right side angledcorner mount member 5 extending from the right sideangled edge 8, and the left side angledcorner mount member 6 extending from the left sideangled edge 9. - The right and left side angled
corner mount members angled edges angled corner mount - A
first slot 10 is disposed in eachangled corner mount lower edge 4 and extending perpendicular to the lower edge 4 a sufficient distance to allow a secure attachment of the nested corner mount 1 to the respective walls of the corner of the room. Preferably, eachfirst slot 10 would have a width of 0.25 inches and a length of 2.38 inches, and would be located 1.84 inches from the right and left side angled edges, respectively. - Each angled nesting
corner mount extension 7 is angled inward, towards theface panel mount 2, at an angle of 45 degrees from theangled corner mount face panel mount 2. - Still referring to
FIG. 1 , a plurality of second slots 11 are disposed in theface panel mount 2, beginning at thelower edge 4 and extending perpendicular to the lower edge 4 a sufficient distance to allow a secure attachment of a panel to the nested corner mount 1. Preferably, each second slot 11 would have a width of 0.25 inches and a length of 1.375 inches, and would be located 8.375 inches from the right and left side angled edges, respectively. - A plurality of
holes 12 are located in theface panel mount 2 such as to provide easy access to thefirst slots 10 to facilitate tightening screws or other fastening means used to attach the nesting corner mount 1 to the respective walls. -
FIGS. 2 and 3 show the nested corner mount in other views to aid in the understanding of the configuration and attributes of the invention.
