FIGS. 1 and 2 , a golf club head in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises ahead body 4 made of iron material and having a side provided with astriking face 45 and a bottom provided with a groundingface 41. The groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 has afront portion 43 and a rear portion located beside thefront portion 43. The rear portion of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 is formed with arecessed portion 42. The groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 has a mediate portion formed with astepped shoulder 46 located between thefront portion 43 and therecessed portion 42. - The
recessed portion 42 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 is provided with at least one protrudingboss 44. Preferably, Therecessed portion 42 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 is provided with a plurality of protrudingbosses 44 which are spaced from each other. Therecessed portion 42 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 is located at a height greater than that of thefront portion 43 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4. Therecessed portion 42 and thefront portion 43 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 have a height differential at least greater than 1 mm (millimeter). - The protruding
bosses 44 are fixed on therecessed portion 42 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 by press, welding, brazing, screwing or casting. Theprotruding bosses 44 are arrange in a line and are spaced from each other equally. Alternatively, theprotruding bosses 44 are arrange in an oblique line or arc-shaped manner. Each of theprotruding bosses 44 has a substantially semi-spherical (oblong, elongated or irregular) cross-sectional profile and has a specific gravity different from that of thehead body 4 to change a center of gravity of thehead body 4. Each of the protrudingbosses 44 can be processed by a surface treatment. Each of theprotruding bosses 44 has a bottom located at a height equal to that of a bottom of thefront portion 43 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4. Theprotruding bosses 44 occupy an area that is smaller than 30% (thirty percent) of that of thefront portion 43 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4. - In operation, when the
striking face 45 of thehead body 4 is driven by the user to hit agolf ball 5, the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 contacts the ground 6. At this time, only thefront portion 43 and the protrudingbosses 44 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 contact the ground 6, and theprotruding bosses 44 occupy an area that is smaller than 30% of that of thefront portion 43 of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 so that the contact area between the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 and the ground 6 is reduced largely to reduce the friction and resistance of the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 applied by the ground 6 and to increase the force of thehead body 4 applying on thegolf ball 5 so as to increase the travel distance of thegolf ball 5 and to increase the striking effect of thehead body 4. In addition, the protrudingbosses 44 provide a support between the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 and the ground 6 so that thehead body 4 is driven to strike thegolf ball 5 exactly and stably, thereby enhancing stability of operation of thehead body 4. - In addition, each of the protruding
bosses 44 has a specific gravity different from that of thehead body 4 to change a center of gravity of thehead body 4. In such a manner, when each of the protrudingbosses 44 has a specific gravity greater from that of thehead body 4, thehead body 4 has a lower center of gravity, and thegolf ball 5 is traveled at a greater height. On the contrary, when each of theprotruding bosses 44 has a specific gravity smaller from that of thehead body 4, thehead body 4 has a higher center of gravity, and thegolf ball 5 is traveled at a smaller height. Thus, thehead body 4 has different ball striking effects by changing the specific gravity of each of the protrudingbosses 44, thereby facilitating the user operating thehead body 4. - In addition, each of the protruding
bosses 44 can be processed by a surface treatment so that each of the protrudingbosses 44 is wear-resistant and has a smaller resistance, thereby enhancing the functions of thehead body 4. - As shown in
FIG. 3 , thehead body 7 is made of wooden material, and therecessed portion 72 of the groundingface 71 of thehead body 7 is provided with a plurality of protrudingbosses 73. Theprotruding bosses 73 are arrange in arc-shaped manner. Each of theprotruding bosses 73 has a substantially oblong cross-sectional profile. - Accordingly, the contact area between the grounding
face 41 of thehead body 4 and the ground 6 is reduced largely by provision of therecessed portion 42 of thegrounding face 41 of thehead body 4 to reduce the friction and resistance of thegrounding face 41 of thehead body 4 and to increase the striking force of thehead body 4 so as to increase the travel distance of thegolf ball 5 and to increase the striking effect of thehead body 4. In addition, the protrudingbosses 44 provide a support between the groundingface 41 of thehead body 4 and the ground 6 so that thehead body 4 is driven to strike thegolf ball 5 exactly and stably, thereby enhancing stability of operation of thehead body 4. Further, each of the protrudingbosses 44 has a specific gravity different from that of thehead body 4 to change a center of gravity of thehead body 4 so that thehead body 4 has different ball striking effects by changing the specific gravity of each of the protrudingbosses 44, thereby facilitating the user operating thehead body 4. - Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment(s) as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claim or claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.
