Abstract
A cover for a wireless remote control unit includes a pocket for enclosing the wireless remote control unit and a slot to allow the wireless remote control unit to access the pocket of the cover. The cover is formed from flexible material to allow a single button of the wireless remote-control unit to be depressed. The flexible material may be latex free. The slot may extend in a traverse direction, and the slot extends in a longitudinal direction.
Description
- The present invention relates to remote control units, and more particularly to a cover for a wireless remote-control unit.
- In today's households, having a television set with a remote control unit to wirelessly control the television set is commonplace. The use of the TV set with a remote has spread to all areas of life within the United States. TV sets can be found in airports, waiting rooms, nursing homes, hospitals, public buildings and the like. Likewise, the wireless remote-control unit is available in these locations for the use by the public. The public use of these remote-controlled units has introduced a yet number of unsolved problems. More particularly, these wireless remote-control units can provide a source of germs and other pathogens that are collected from each of the users of the remote-controlled units. Another problem is that users enjoy eating food and drinks while watching television. The food and drinks can find their way onto the remote-controlled units. This provides an unsightly and unsanitary condition. The wireless remote-control unit is commonly used to wireless control many different kinds of electronic devices other than television. Some of these electronic devices are a CD player, a DVD player, a sound system to name just a few. Typically, the remote unit will include rows and columns of buttons for the user to push in order to enable specific functions. These buttons are generally raised above the surface of the wireless remote-control unit for the user to locate and depress these buttons.
- The cover of the present invention prevents the wireless remote-control unit from being the source of germs, bacteria and other type of undesirable byproducts from other users using the wireless remote-control unit.
- The cover of the present invention prevents foreign material such as dirt, solid food and liquids from contaminating the wireless remote-control unit of the present invention.
- The cover of the present invention provides a substantially continuous cover for the wireless remote-control unit.
- The cover of the present invention is easily installed and removed from the wireless remote-control unit.
- The cover of the present invention is disposable.
- The cover of the present invention should be sufficiently flexible so that the cover does not interfere substantially with the user operating the wireless remote-control unit. The cover of the present invention should be sufficiently flexible so as to allow only a single button to be pushed.
- The cover of the present invention for the wireless remote-control unit should be sufficiently transparent so that the cover does not interfere with the ability of the user to see any indicia on the wireless remote-control unit.
- The present invention should provide the cover of the wireless remote-control unit to be latex free so as to prevent allergic reactions due to use of the cover.
- A cover for a wireless remote control unit includes a pocket for enclosing the wireless remote control unit and a slot to allow the wireless remote control unit to access the pocket of the cover.
- The cover is formed from flexible material to allow a single button of the wireless remote-control unit to be depressed.
- The flexible material may be latex free.
- The slot may extend in a traverse direction, and the slot extends in a longitudinal direction.

FIG. 1 illustrates the remote-control cover 100 of the present invention. More particularly,FIG. 1 illustrates thetop section 102 of the remote-control cover 100 of the present invention. Thetop section 102 is shown as being substantially lobed shaped. Thetop section 102 may be formed from flexible material to allow the user to press a button on the wireless remote-control unit. -
FIG. 2 illustrates abottom section 208 of the remote-control cover 100 of the present invention. Thebottom section 208 opposes thetop section 102 and forms apocket 210 to accept the wireless remote-control unit. Thebottom section 208 is approximately the same lobe shaped as thetop section 102. Thebottom section 208 includes aslot 204 which is shown extending in the traverse direction of the remote-control cover 100. Theslot 204 may extend in the longitudinal direction or any suitable direction of the remote-control cover 100. Theslot 204 is to allow the wireless remote-control unit to enter thepocket 210 and is to allow the wireless remote-control unit to be removed from thepocket 210. Consequently, the remote-controlledcover 100 may be used on other wireless remote-control units or may be disposable by allowing a remote-control cover of 100 to be replaced by another wireless remote-control unit. The periphery of theslot 204 may include a reinforcedsection 206 to prevent thebottom section 208 from damage such as tearing when the wireless remote-control unit 300 is being inserted or removed from the remote-control cover 100. FIG. 3 illustrates a wireless remote-control unit 300 havingbuttons 302 to control a TV set or other electronic device. The wireless remote-control unit 300 is generally rectangular but could be square, oval, lobed shaped or any other suitable shape. The flexible nature of the remote-control cover 100 allows the remote-control cover 100 to conform to the shape of theremote control device 300. -
FIG. 4 illustrates the wireless remote-control unit 300 being inserted into or removed from thepocket 210 of the remote-control cover 100. The wireless remote-control unit 300 is inserted through theslot 204 and into thepocket 210, and the remote-control cover 100 is pulled over the wireless remote-control unit 300. -
FIG. 5 illustrates the wireless remote-control unit 300 with the remote-control cover 100 substantially enclosing the wireless remote-control unit 330 and theslit 204. The remote-control cover 100 is sized to enclose the wireless remote-control unit 330, and theremote control cover 100 is formed from flexible material such as plastic so that the user can depress the surface of the remote-control cover of 100 over thebutton 302 and the pressure from the user is transmitted to thebutton 302. The material of the remote-control cover 100 may include latex or may be a latex free material. - The
cover 100 of the present invention prevents the wireless remote-control unit from being the source of germs, bacteria and other type of undesirable byproducts from other users using the wireless remote-control unit. - The
cover 100 of the present invention prevents foreign material such as dirt, solid food and liquids from contaminating the wireless remote-control unit of the present invention. - The cover of the present invention prevents the wireless remote-control unit from being the source of germs, bacteria and other type of undesirable byproducts from other users using the wireless remote-control unit.
- The
cover 100 of the present invention provides a substantially continuous cover for the wireless remote-control unit 300. - The
cover 100 of the present invention is easily installed and removed from the wireless remote-control unit 300. - The
cover 100 of the present invention is disposable. - The
cover 100 of the present invention should be sufficiently flexible so that thecover 100 does not interfere substantially with the user operating the wireless remote-control 300 unit. Thecover 100 of the present invention should be sufficiently flexible so as to allow only asingle button 302 to be pushed. - The
cover 100 of the present invention for the wireless remote-control unit 300 should be sufficiently transparent so that thecover 100 does not interfere with the ability of the user to see any indicia on the wireless remote-control unit 300. - The present invention should provide the
cover 100 of the wireless remote-control unit 300 to be latex free so as to prevent allergic reactions due to use of thecover 100. - While the invention is susceptible to various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments thereof have been shown by way of example in the drawings and are herein described in detail. It should be understood, however, that the description herein of specific embodiments is not intended to limit the invention to the particular forms disclosed.
Claims (4)
1) A cover for a wireless remote control unit, comprising:
a pocket for enclosing the wireless remote control unit;
a slot to allow the wireless remote control unit to access the pocket of the cover;
wherein the cover is formed from flexible material to allow a single button of the wireless remote-control unit to be depressed.
2) A cover for a wireless remote control unit as in claim 1 , wherein the flexible material is latex free.
3) A cover for a wireless remote control unit as in claim 1 , wherein the slot extends in a traverse direction.
4) A cover for a wireless remote control unit as in claim 1 , wherein the slot extends in a longitudinal direction.
