Description
July 23, 1935. H. THoMA HYDRAULIC MOTOR AND PUMP Filed March 17, 1935 Patented July '23, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application Maman, 193s, serial No. 661,358
, In Germany March 30,1932
4 claims. (C1. 10s- 162) a bell-shaped element the rim of the bell serving for carrying the journals through which. the oil feed is mostly effected. vThe closed, bell-shaped construction has been preferably' employed in thenecessary nor practical.
It is correct, -to make the journals and their bearings rigid. However, for this purpose it is sufficient to correspondingly reinforce the connections arranged directly be-l v tween the journals and the valve face, which connections are mostly made hollow for feeding Ithe oil. Ihese parts alone ensure an absorption of the principal piston forces almost without sagging, whereas the usual lateral walls of the bell,
owing to their curved shape impart only an ap-l -parent but in reality immaterial rigidity.
According to the invention, an open oscillatably mounted frame or U-shaped yoke is therefore employed, which presents the great advantage that the oil running off the valve face in lservice is easily visible, so that whether, for example, the control gear.
An embodiment of by Way of example in in which:
' Fig. 1 shows in side it is possible to ascertain too much oil flows through the invention is yillustrated the accompanying drawing elevation a hydraulic motor or pump illustrating the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a partial lo ngitudinal section of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial section of the device showing the valve face.
A shaft W is guided 4in suitable radial and axial bearings and carries the driving flange T. Connecting rods P Vprovided with the usual balls are hinged to this driving flange T. The connecting rods P serve for driving the pistons' not shown in the drawing located ina rotary cylinder block Z.
The. cylinder block Z carries a' valve surface S,
with the valve face.
The important feature is,
the arrangement of a frame or yoke R which is for the greater part open and which presents-a clear view of the important parts of the cooperating cylinder and valve surface especially the oil flow from the valve face. The parts of the frame R may at the same time be made hollow for the oil feed and discharge. The parts of the frame R may be cast in -one-piece with the valve body or bolted thereon. In the case of large size constructions and high oil pressures which act on the pivotl pins Z, an undesirable resilient yielding of the frame R might however occur. In order tol prevent this, staybolts'B or other supporting elementspressed or cast in a suitable mannerbetween the arms may be employed which however should be so constructed as to leave between the A `valve face S and the supporting elements an ample window aperture through which the working of the control gear or the quantity of oil running off can be observed. 20 The essential feature is the arrangement of an open frame element or yoke for hydraulic motors or pumps with oscillatably mounted cylinders in such a manner that the operation of the valve surfaces and the quantity of oil flowing off therefrom can be observed. The staybolts B may at the same time serve as connectingv means for a driving member for the adjusting mechanism, for example for a screw spindle Sch which is hingedly connected on one side of the frame. On the other staybolt for example intermediate springs, indicating devices or the like can act. The screw spindle and the other parts can be keyed as required on the upwardly or downwardly extended bolt B, or, if a cast or otherwise inserted constructional element is employed instead of the bolt B,
.provided with a bearing surface havingv valve ports therein and with spaced generally parallel arms attached to said base on opposite sides thereof and extending from said base toward said support, each of which arms is formed with a passageway communicating with one of said valve ports, a rotatable cylinder member having cooperating ports therein connected for rotation with said shaft, bearing against said surface with its ports communicating alternately with the ports in said bearing surface, said bearing surface being located between the arms, and the space between said arms adjacent said bearing surface being left open to provide access to said bearing surface from the side and to permit observation of the operation of said rotatable cylinder member in relation to said bearing surface.
2. In a hydraulic motor or pump,.the combination comprising a rotatable shaft, a bearing for said shaft, a cylinder support member pivotally connected to a support, said pivoted member being provided`with a base formed with a surface having valve ports therein and with spaced generally parallel arms attached to said base on opposite sides thereof and extending from said base toward said support, said cylinder support member being formed with passageways communicating with said valve ports, a. rotatable cylinder member having cooperating parte therein corinected for rotation with said shaft, bearing against said surface with its ports communicating alternately wtih the ports in said bearing surface, said bearing surface being located between the arms and the space between said arms and adjacent said bearing surface being left open to provide access to said bearing surface from the side and to permit observation ci" the operation of said rotatable cylinder member in relation to said bearing surface.
3. In a hydraulic motor or pump, the combination comprising a rotatable shaft, a bearing for said shaft, a cylinder support member pivotaily connected to a support, said pivoted member be ing provided with a base formed with a surface having valve ports therein and with spaced generally parallel arms attached to said base on opposite sides thereof and extending from said base toward said support, said cylinder support member being formed with passageways communicating with said valve ports, a rotatable cylinderv member having cooperating ports thereinvconnected for rotation with said shaft located adjacent said valve surface with its ports communieating alternately with the ports in said valve surface, said valve surface being located between the arms and the space between said arms and' adjacent 'said valve surface being left open to provide access to said surface from the side and to permit observation of the-operation of said rotatable cylinder member in relation to said valve surface.
4. In a hydraulic motor or pump, the combinationcomprising a rotatable'shaft, a bearing for said shaft, a cylinder-support member pivotally connected to a support,'said pivoted member being provided with a base formed with a surface having valve ports therein and With spa-ced generally parallel arms attached to said base on opposite sides thereof and extending from said base tcward said support, said cylinder support being formed with passageways communicating with said valve ports, a rotatable cylinder member having cooperating ports .therein connected for rotation with said shaft located adjacent said valve surface with its ports communicating alternately with the ports in said valve surface, said 4valve surface being located between the arms and the space between said arms and adjacent said valve surface being left open to provide acc'ess to said surface fram the side and topermit observation of the operation of said rotatable cylinder member in relation to said valve surface, said spaced arms being provided with transverse connecting means adjacent theirpivoted en ds.
