Description

L. M. ASHOUR CIGAR OR CIGARETTE HOLDER July 16, 1935.
Fild Aug. 11, 1934 I 1 VENTOR 7; I 1
(my Y {Wm/1M4 77% A TTORNEY Patented July 16, 1935 1 UNITED STATES PATENT oFrIc CIGAR R CIGARETTE. HOLDER Louis M. Ashour, Kansas City, Mo. Application ugustin 1934*,Serial no. 739,388 3 Claims. (01. 131
' My invention relates to improvements in cigar or cigarette holders. 7
Oneof the objects of my invention is to provide a cigar or cigarette holder with novel means for catching the ashes and preventing them or sparks from falling on the floor, table, clothes, in a car, or falling wherever the device may be used.
A further object of my invention is to provide a cover for the cigar or cigarette which is adjustable to different positions to adapt the device to cigars or cigarettes of different lengths, and which has novel means for releasably holding the cover in the positions to which it may be adjusted.
My invention provides further novel meansfor ejecting the cigar stub or cigarette from the holder.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of my improved holder.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, shown disposed in operative position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder shown in its collapsed condition.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the different views.
I designates an intermediate tubular member the front end portion of which is adapted to'have removably fitted therein a cigar or cigarette 2.
The rear end portion of the member I is internally threaded and of less internal diameter than the front end portion thereof.
3 designates a tubular mouth piece having a peripherally threaded front end portion 4 revolubly fitted in the threaded rear end of the member I.
The mouth piece 3 is provided with another peripheral threaded portion 5 which is spaced from the threaded portion 4, and which is adapted to be fitted and revolved in the rear threaded end portion of the member I to a position in which the portion 5 will be forward of and disengaged from the internal threaded end portion of the member I. The mouth piece 3 may then be slid forwardly in the member I to the front end thereof, thereby ejecting the stub of the cigar or cigarette which has been held in the member I.
To prevent ashes or sparks falling onto the clothes of thesmoker, or upon the table floor, or 7 other place, there is provided a tubular cover member 6 having an open rear end anda closed front end provided with perforations T for the passage of air and smoke. 5 I
The cover member 6 is longitudinally slidably removable from the member I, and it is also circumferentially revoluble on said member. It is provided with a longitudinal slot'8 which extends forwardly from its rear end and which is 10 provided with lateral notches 9 and I0 disposed at different distances from the rear end of the slot 8.
The member I is provided with a peripheral projection which may be a radial pin I I which is adapted to enter the slot 8 and either one of the notches 9 or ID for holding the cover member 6 from longitudinal movement from either of the two positions to which it may be adjusted.
When it is desired to smoke a cigarette of one length, the cover member 6, after the insertion of the cigar or cigarette into the member I, is slid onto the member I to the position shown in Fig. 2, and the cover'member is then revolved so as to cause the pin II to enter the notch II].
If itis desired to smoke a longer cigarette or cigar, the cover member is adjusted on the member I, so: that the pin II will enter the notch 9, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 and 2.
After a cigar or cigarette has been smoked so as to have the burning end closely adjacent to the front end of the member I, the mouth piece 3 may be revolved so as to advance the threaded portion 4 forward of the threaded rear end of the member I. The mouth piece may then be slid forwardly until the threaded portion 5 engages the threaded rear end of the member I. The cigar or cigarette will still be held by the member I. When the cigar or cigarette has been finished,"the cover member 6 is removed and the mouth piece 3 screwed forwardly until the threaded portion 5 is disengaged from the threaded rear end of the member I, after which, the mouth piece 3 may be slidforwardly to eject the cigarette or cigar stub from the member I.
When not in use, the parts may be disposed as shown in Fig. 3, with the mouth piece in the extreme forward position in the member I, and the cove-r member in the rearmost position, with the pin II in the notch IIJ.
As shown, the upper side of the cover member 6 may be provided with a longitudinal row of observation openings I2 through which it can be seen to what extent the cigar or cigarette has been smoked. If desired, thecover member 6 55 may be dispensed with, in which case the portion 4 of the mouth piece engages member I.
I do not limit my invention to: the structure shown and described,. as many modifications,
within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:-
1. In a cigar or cigarette holder, a tubular member adaptedto have removably fitted in its front end portion a cigar or cigarette, and having an internally threaded rear end portion of less internal diameter than that of said front end-portion, and a tubular mouth piece having an externally threaded portion fitted and revoluble in said threaded end portion, to a position forward thereof, andfrom there forwardly slidable in said front end portion to the front end thereof, for ejecting therefrom the cigar or cigarette stub.
, 2,. Inatigaror cigarette holder, a tubular member adapted to have removablygfitted in its front end portion a cigar or cigarette, and having an internally threaded rear end portion of less internal diameter than that of said front end portion, and a tubular mouth piece having two spaced apart externally threaded portions adapted to be consecutively fitted and revolved insaid threaded end portion to a position forward thereof, said mouth piece being forwardly slidable in said front end portion to the front end thereof, when the rear one of said two threaded portions is disposed forward of said internally threaded end portion.
3. In a cigar or cigarette holder, an intermediate tubular member having an internally threaded rear end portion and a front end portion of larger internal diameter adapted to have removably fitted therein a cigar or cigarette, a. tubular mouth piece having a peripheral threaded portion fitted and revoluble in said threaded end p ortion to a position clear of said threaded end portion and forward thereof, and slidable from such position forwardly to the front end of said intermediate member, and a tubular cover member removably and longitudinally adjustably fitted on said intermediate member to different longitudinal positions and having means for engaging said intermediate member for holding the cover member releasably in the position to which it may be adjusted.
