IMPROVEMENT IN GATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,840, dated March 5, 1878; application filed June 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PoMPEIUs PHILIPPI, of Beardstown, in the county of Oasis and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in my Gate, patented the 18th day of September, 1866, No. 58,130, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1 and 2 are views of my improved gate.
The object of my improvement is to secure a better locking of the gate when closed, which is done by a movable bolt, R, sliding under pin T at the gate-post E, having the short end of the lever K lengthened, to which the movable boltR is attached. The coupling P, annexed to the long rod J, with the spiral spring S inside the coupling, attached to rod J, is for the purpose of allowing lever K as much play as necessary to withdraw the bolt R before the acting of the lifting part of the gate takes place, which latter part has been fully described in my patent above mentioned.
I claim as my invention- The spiral spring S, attached to the rod J inside the coupling P, in combination with the lengthened lever K, acting on the sliding bolt R, all for the purpose as herein described.
