Abstract

An outerwear garment for wearing by two people at the same time and having four arm sleeves in connection with the garment. The garment may be worn by two people at outdoor events and will function chiefly as a jacket or sweater in order to keep the occupants warm. There are arm sleeves on each end of the garment and two arm sleeves near the middle so that all four arms of the couple can be accommodated by the jacket and all four arms of the occupants can be used external to the jacket.

Description

FIELD AND BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to the field of garments and those garments designed to hold multiple people. In particular this garment functions as a jacket or sweater or other form of outerwear that can hold two persons side by side and has at least four arm holes and arm sleeves to accommodate all of the arm limbs of the wearers.
There are prior art garment that are designed to hold more than one person however none of them have arm holes that are designed to accommodate all four arms of the people. Thus the invention includes claimed features including four arm holes and four arm sleeves in connection with the main portion of the outerwear that covers the bodies of the two people.
It is thought that the invention will have its greatest usage among couples who want to share a jacket or sweater together, most likely being at an outdoor event like a concert or a sporting event. The garment does allow the couple to walk while wearing the garment so they would not be limited to only wearing the garment while in a stationary position. There are advantages to a garment that will hold two people. One is that being closer together will keep bodies warm as the proximity of the bodies will warm each other, as each body generates generate heat. This may be useful on a cold day. Furthermore one garment that can hold two people could save on the cost of two separate jackets and of course physical proximity of two people together will enhance human relationships.
Such considerations would be evident in any two person garment however the use of four separate arm holes confers additional advantages over the prior art. In particular the use of four separate arm holes will allow greater mobility of the arms while wearing the jacket, an advantage over prior art where only two arm holes would prevent the mobility of those arms that are on the inside. I.e. in a two arm, two person garment, the person on the left will have his/her left arm in a sleeve but his right arm will be under the garment and useless for manipulating things outside of the main covering. And similar for the person on the right his right arm will be outside but his/her left arm will remain inside the covering.
Having the use of four arm holes will allow each of the people to use both of his/her arms for different functions e.g. to hold a bag of food, or to hold a program guide. Such extra sleeves may also facilitate putting on the garment by having additional arm capable of manipulating the garment when it is put on.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The overall form of the invention is shown in FIG. 1 The main outerwear portion of the garment is shown as 1 and maybe constructed by joining two fabric halves to one another; these halves maybe referred to as “front portion” and the “back portion”. Such portions maybe joined to one another along three sides, the left side, the right side and the upper edge. So that this construction will form a garment that encloses a space on three sides. The space should be enough to accommodate two people who can sit or stand side by side while inside the garment. Other construction methods are possible without varying from the spirit of the invention. Note that the use of the terms: front and back portion are a convention used to describe the construction of the garment and should not be construed as limiting the invention to only those garments formed by a particular method as a convention they simply describe the various parts of the garment and their relationship to one another.
On the left hand side of the garment would be an arm hole and sleeve 3 in connection with the arm hole in order to accommodate the left arm of the person sitting or standing on the left. And on the right hand side of the garment would be an arm hole and sleeve 5 in connection with the arm hole in order to accommodate the right arm of the person sitting or standing on the right. In the middle of the garment would be two more arm holes and sleeves 7, 9 in connection with the front side of the garment in order to accommodate the other two arms of the wearers. These arm holes would be positioned so as to accommodate the right arm of the person on the left side and the left arm of the person sitting/standing on the right side. The arm holes may be side by side or they maybe one above the other.
Naturally the garment would have two neck holes 11, 13 for the neck and head of each member of the couple. These would be placed in the upper edge of the garment and would be of normal construction. Also the sleeves and the rest of the garment would be of a conventional construction that would accommodate the arms and heads of the two occupants.
It is thought that the garment may be constructed of any sort of material that may find use in the regular construction of garments, such as jackets. Thus while cotton, linen and similar materials may be used it is preferred that these types of materials be those types that are typically used for jackets or sweaters, such as: sweater materials, linen, rayon, nylon, polyester, wool, etc. both natural and synthetic materials may be used and it is not thought that the use of any particular material would limit or detract from the particular use that this invention is put to, viz.: holding two people, side by side, under one garment. Nor would any particular material change the construction of the garment.

Claims

1. A garment for wearing by two people (a couple) at the same time, said garment comprising: a main outer portion having comprising a front and a back portion in connection with one another, said front portion and said back portion each having a left side, right side and an upper side and each of said left, right and upper sides attached to a corresponding left right and upper side on the other member so as to enclose an area for holding the couple, said portions as attached to one another so as to form a left side a right side and an upper side, said left side having an arm hole and an arm sleeve in connection with said arm hole for holding the arm of one of the couple said right side having an arm hole and an arm sleeve in connection with said arm hole for holding the arm of one of the couple, a pair of neck holes in connection with said upper side, said neck holes of size and shape adapted to accommodate the necks of the couple, said front portion having a pair of additional arm holes and a pair of additional arm sleeves in connection with said additional arm holes, each of said additional arm holes positioned on said front portion so as to accommodate one arm of each of the couple when said garment is placed over said couple.
