FIG. 4 , thelimbs 41 of thestop 40 may be biased or forced to engage with thedisc teeth 25 of thetoothed discs 23 by thespring members 42 for limiting and allowing thetoothed discs 23 and thereel drum 20 to rotate relative to thebase 10 in the active direction, i.e. clockwise relative to thebase 10, and for preventing thereel drum 20 from being rotated in the reverse direction, i.e. counterclockwise relative to thebase 10, or for preventing the belt and thereel drum 20 from being rotated reversely, i.e. counterclockwise relative to thebase 10. At this moment, thetoothed discs 23 and thereel drum 20 may be forced to rotate relative to thebase 10 in the active direction, i.e. in the clockwise direction relative to thebase 10, by theoperating arm 30 and thecatch device 50. - The
operating arm 30 may be rotated reversely, i.e. counterclockwise relative to thebase 10 when thetoothed discs 23 and thereel drum 20 are positioned or latched by thelimbs 41 of thestop 40, and thus for allowing thetoothed discs 23 and thereel drum 20 to be forced to rotate relative to thebase 10 in the active direction, i.e. clockwise relative to thebase 10, by theoperating arm 30 and thecatch device 50 step by step, in order to wind the belt onto thereel drum 20 step by step. After the belt has been tightly wound onto thereel drum 20 by theoperating arm 30, or when required, thecatch device 50 may be moved or pulled against thespring members 52 to selectively disengage thepawls 51 from theopen portion 35 or theopening 34 of thelegs 31, and thus to allow thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30 to be selectively disengaged from thereel drum 20 and thebase 10 or separated from the cargo bracing device 1, and thus to prevent theoperating arm 30 of the cargo bracing device 1 from being operated or actuated by unauthorized persons. - It is to be noted that the typical cargo bracing or tie-down or fastening devices or strapping devices failed to provide an
operating arm 30 having twolegs 31 selectively disengageable from thereel drum 20 and thebase 10 after the belt has been tightly wound onto thereel drum 20 by theoperating arm 30, for preventing the cargo bracing device 1 from being operated or actuated by the unauthorized persons and for preventing the cargo from being stolen by the unauthorized persons. The above-described structure has been disclosed in the co-pending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 11/725,666, filed 20 Mar. 2007, which may be taken as a reference for the present invention. - The cargo bracing device 1 further includes a locking or securing or anchoring means or
device 60 for selectively and releaseably or detachably anchoring thecatch device 50 to thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30, and for limiting thecatch device 50 to slide relative to thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30, and for preventing thepawls 51 of thecatch device 50 from being detached or disassembled or disengaged from theopen portion 35 or theopening 34 of thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30 inadvertently, and for preventing thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30 from being disengaged from thereel drum 20 and thebase 10 inadvertently. For example, the anchoring means ordevice 60 includes an actuatingmember 61 rotatably attached or mounted or secured to thecatch device 50 with anaxle 62, and the actuatingmember 61 includes an inclined or helical actuatingsurface 63 formed or provided in the bottom portion of the actuating member 61 (FIG. 2 ) and having a deeper end orportion 64, and a shallower end orportion 65, and apartition 66 formed or provided between the twoends surface 63. - The anchoring means or
device 60 further includes alatch 67 slidably engaged into or through anorifice 54 of thecatch device 50 for selectively engaging with either of therods 32 or theoperating arm 30 and for selectively anchoring or securing or locking thecatch device 50 to theoperating arm 30 and for preventing thecatch device 50 from being moved relative to theoperating arm 30 and thus for preventing thepawls 51 of thecatch device 50 from being detached or disassembled or disengaged from theopen portion 35 or the opening 34 of thelegs 31 and thus for preventing thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30 from being disengaged from thereel drum 20 and thebase 10 inadvertently. Aspring member 68 may be engaged onto thelatch 67 and engaged between thelatch 67 and thecatch device 50 for biasing and moving thelatch 67 from therods 32 or theoperating arm 30. - In operation, as shown in
FIGS. 4 and 5 , the inclined or helical actuatingsurface 63 of the actuatingmember 61 is engaged with thelatch 67 for actuating thelatch 67 to selectively engage with either of therods 32 or the operating arm 30 (FIG. 5 ) when the shallower end orportion 65 of the inclined or helical actuatingsurface 63 of the actuatingmember 61 is engaged with thelatch 67, and for allowing thelatch 67 to be selectively disengaged from therods 32 or the operating arm 30 (FIG. 4 ) when the deeper end orportion 64 of the actuatingmember 61 is engaged with thelatch 67. Thepartition 66 may be selectively engaged with thelatch 67 for limiting the rotational movement of the actuatingmember 61 relative to thelatch 67. It is to be noted that the engagement of thelatch 67 with therods 32 or theoperating arm 30 is arranged to allow thecatch device 50 to slightly move relative to theoperating arm 30 and to allow thecatch device 50 to be selectively engaged with or disengaged from thedisc teeth 25 of thetoothed discs 23, and is arranged to prevent thepawls 51 of thecatch device 50 from being completely detached or disassembled or disengaged from theopen portion 35 or theopening 34 of thelegs 31. - Alternatively, as shown in
FIG. 6 , the latch or latch 67 may be slidably engaged into or through anotherorifice 55 of thecatch device 50 for selectively and suitably engaging with either of therods 32 or theoperating arm 30 and for selectively anchoring or securing or anchoring thecatch device 50 to theoperating arm 30 and for preventing thecatch device 50 from being moved relative to theoperating arm 30 and thus for preventing thepawls 51 of thecatch device 50 from being detached or disassembled or disengaged from theopen portion 35 or theopening 34 of thelegs 31 and thus for preventing thelegs 31 of theoperating arm 30 from being disengaged from thereel drum 20 and the base 10 inadvertently. - Accordingly, the cargo bracing device in accordance with the present invention includes an actuating handle selectively detached or disassembled or disengaged from the cargo bracing device for preventing the cargo bracing device from being operated or actuated by unauthorized persons, and includes a lock device for selectively anchoring the actuating handle and for preventing the actuating handle from being detached or disassembled or disengaged from the cargo bracing device inadvertently.
- Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
