Abstract
A detachable chair includes a first frame member including two first side rails having a lengthwise slit, front first cross rails, and rear second cross rails; a second frame member including two second side rails, first seat rails having either end portion projecting laterally out of the second side rail, and a second seat rail disposed rearward of the first seat rails and having either end being about flush with an outer surface of the second side rail; and a backrest including two side sheaths adapted to insert through the slits and fastened by rods. Inserting the second frame member through a gap between one second cross rail and one first cross rail until being stopped by the first frame member with the second side rails rested upon one first cross rail will assemble the inclined frame members as a chair.
Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to folding chairs and more particularly to a chair comprising two frame members and a backrest, these components adapted to easily either assemble or detach without involving any tool.
- 2. Related Art
- Folding chairs are well known. Conventionally, a folding chair has one or more hinges (or pivots) each for pivotably connecting two components thereof. As such, the chair can be folded, for example in a storage state.
- But this is unsatisfactory for the purpose for which the invention is concerned for the following reasons: The provision of hinges can complicate the manufacturing process. Further, it is not durable. That is, its useful life is short. Thus, the need for improvement still exists.
- It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a detachable chair comprising two frame members and a backrest, these components being adapted to easily either assemble or detach without involving any tool.
- To achieve the above and other objects, the present invention provides a detachable chair comprising a first frame member including two parallel first side rails having a leg and a lengthwise slit, a plurality of front first cross rails interconnecting the first side rails, and a plurality of rear second cross rails interconnecting the first side rails; a second frame member including two parallel second side rails having a leg, a plurality of first seat rails interconnecting the second side rails and having either end portion projecting laterally out of the second side rail, and a second seat rail disposed rearward of the first seat rails and interconnecting the second side rails, the second seat rail having either end being about flush with an outer surface of the second side rail wherein a transverse length of the second frame member is smaller than a distance between inner side surfaces of the first side rails by a predetermined minimum value; and a backrest including a sheath at either side, the sheaths being adapted to insert through the slits to dispose internally of the first side rails, and two stop members disposed through the sheaths and urged against the slits; whereby inserting the second frame member through a gap between one of the second cross rails and one of the first cross rails until being stopped by the first frame member with the second side rails rested upon one of the first cross rails will assemble the inclined first and second frame members as a chair.
- In one aspect of the present invention each of the legs of the first side rails has an inclined bottom.
- The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawings.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of detachable chair according to the invention; -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the detached first and second frame members; -
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the detached first and second frame members being assembled as a flat piece prior to storage; -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the detached first and second frame members having been assembled as a flat piece in a storage state; and -
FIGS. 5 , 6, and 7 are perspective views illustrating three steps of forming the backrest of the chair by assembling a rectangular member with the side rails respectively. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 to 7 , a detachable chair in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises afirst frame member 10 and asecond frame member 20. Each component is discussed in detailed below. - The
first frame member 10 comprises two parallelfirst side rails 11 having aleg 111 and an intermediate, lengthwiseslit 15, a plurality of frontfirst cross rails 13 interconnecting front surfaces of thefirst side rails 11, a plurality of rearsecond cross rails 12 interconnecting rear surfaces of thefirst side rails 11, and athird cross rail 14 interconnecting inner side surfaces of thefirst side rails 11, thethird cross rail 14 being disposed lower than the lowestfirst cross rail 13. - The
second frame member 20 comprises two parallelsecond side rails 22 having aleg 24, thesecond side rails 22 being shorter than thefirst side rails 11, a plurality offirst seat rails 21 interconnecting upper surfaces of thesecond side rails 22, eachfirst seat rail 21 having anend portion 211 projecting laterally out of thesecond side rail 22, and asecond seat rail 23 disposed in a rear of thefirst seat rails 21 and interconnecting the upper surfaces of thesecond side rails 22, thesecond seat rail 23 having eitherend 232 flush with an outer side surface of thesecond side rail 22. As such, a rear surface of thesecond seat rail 23 is engaged with and stopped by a lower front portion of the lowest rearsecond cross rail 12, thesecond side rails 22 are rested upon the lowestfirst cross rail 13, and thelegs second frame member 20 through a gap between the lowestfirst cross rail 13 and the lowest rearsecond cross rail 12 in a process of assembling both the first andsecond frame members legs 111 has an inclined bottom and each of thelegs 24 has an inclined portion such that the assembled chair can stand firmly on the ground (seeFIG. 1 ). It is also shown inFIG. 1 that either end of each of thefirst seat rails 21 is flush with an outer side surface of each of thefirst side rails 11 in the assembled state of the chair. In view of the above, the assembling process of the chair is very easy and simple. Also, the assembled chair can stand firmly and withstand the weight of a person sit on thefirst seat rails 21. Further, a transverse length of thesecond frame member 20 is slightly smaller than a distance between the inner side surfaces of thefirst side rails 11. Thus, the detached first andsecond frame members FIGS. 2 , 3, and 4). - For the comfort of a person sitting on the chair, a
backrest 40 is provided by referring toFIGS. 5 to 7 specifically. Thebackrest 40 is formed of a fabric or an elastomeric material. Thebackrest 40 is rectangular and comprises asheath 41 at either side. Thesheath 41 has a length slightly smaller than that of the slit 15 (seeFIG. 5 ). In assembly, thesheaths 41 are adapted to insert through theslits 15 to dispose internally of the first side rails 11 (seeFIG. 6 ). Next, insert acylindrical rod 42 having a length longer than that of each of theslit 15 and thesheath 41 through thesheath 41 until both ends of therod 41 are disposed externally of the sheaths 41 (seeFIG. 7 ). In this position, thebackrest 40 is secured across theslits 15 since thesheaths 41 are prevented from passing through theslits 15 when a force is exerted upon thebackrest 40 due to the stopping effect of therods 42. Thus, a person sifting on thefirst seat rails 21 can comfortably rest the back on thebackrest 40. - While the invention herein disclosed has been described by means of specific embodiments, numerous modifications and variations could be made thereto by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention set forth in the claims.
