Abstract
A box-spring assembly includes two frames, a resilient member, a plurality of lateral springs, and a plurality of clips. The frames are spaced apart from each other, and each of the frames has a looped lateral frame rod. The resilient member includes an array of spring coil units disposed between the frames, and a plurality of connecting elements connecting the spring coil units to each other. Each of the lateral springs is connected between the looped lateral frame rods so as to reinforce the looped lateral frame rods. The clips connect the spring coil units and the lateral springs to the looped lateral frame rods.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The invention relates to a box-spring assembly, more particularly to a box-spring assembly for a mattress.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , a conventional box-spring assembly for a mattress includes twoframes 11 spaced apart from each other, and an array ofspring coil units 12 disposed between theframes 11. Each of theframes 11 has a loopedlateral frame rod 111. Thespring coil units 12 are connected to each other and to the loopedlateral frame rods 111 of theframes 11. - However, since the resilient support of the looped
lateral frame rods 111 of theframes 11 is insufficient, the sides of the mattress are liable to be deformed due to the weight loaded on the mattress proximate to the loopedlateral frame rods 111 of theframes 11. - Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a box-spring assembly, which provides an improved resilient support for the sides of a mattress.
- According to this invention, a box-spring assembly includes two frames, a resilient member, a plurality of lateral springs, and a plurality of clips. The clips connect the spring coil unit and the lateral springs to the looped lateral frame rods.
- Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent in the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which:
-
FIG. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a conventional box-spring assembly; -
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the preferred embodiment of a box-spring assembly according to this invention; -
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary schematic side view of the preferred embodiment; -
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary schematic top view of the preferred embodiment; and -
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary schematic side view of the preferred embodiment in a state of weight loading. - Referring to
FIGS. 2 , 3 and 4, the preferred embodiment of the box-spring assembly according to this invention includes twoframes 2, aresilient member 3, a plurality oflateral springs 5, and a plurality ofclips 4. - The
frames 2 are spaced apart from each other, and each of theframes 2 has a loopedlateral frame rod 21, which is formed in a rectangular shape in this preferred embodiment. In practical use, the loopedlateral frame rod 21 can be formed in other geometrical shapes, such as a circular shape. - The
resilient member 3 includes an array ofspring coil units 31 disposed between theframes 2, and a plurality of connectingelements 32 connecting thespring coil units 31 to each other. Each of theconnecting elements 32 is a metal wire that is coiled helically, and is connected to the top and bottom end portions of corresponding ones of thespring coil units 31. - The
clips 4 connect thespring coil units 31 proximate to the loopedlateral frame rods 21 and thelateral springs 5 to the loopedlateral frame rods 21. - Each of the
lateral springs 5 is connected between the loopedlateral frame rods 21 so as to reinforce the loopedlateral frame rods 21. Each of thelateral springs 5 includes two fasteningend portions 51 extending parallel to and fastened to the loopedlateral frame rods 21 correspondingly via theclips 4, aresilient helix portion 53 between thefastening end portions 51, and two supportingportions 52 each extending between a corresponding one of thefastening end portions 51 and theresilient helix portion 53 and oblique to the corresponding one of thefastening end portions 51. Each of thelateral springs 5 is a one-piece bent metal rod that substantially resembles a figure of M in this embodiment. - When the box-spring assembly of this invention is used for a mattress, the
lateral springs 5 provide reinforced resilient support for the loopedlateral frame rods 21 of theframes 2. Therefore, as shown inFIG. 5 , the sides of the mattress corresponding to the loopedlateral frame rods 21 of theframes 2 are not easily deformed when weight is loaded thereon. Furthermore, since thelateral springs 5 are bent along an axial direction of corresponding ones of the loopedlateral frame rods 21 of theframes 2, the fabric of the mattress will not be damaged by thelateral springs 5. - While the present invention has been described in connection with what is considered the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is understood that this invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.
