Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims benefit to provisional application 60/784,534, dated Mar. 21, 2006, entitled Writing Hand Guard, which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is directed to the field of a hand protection device which provides protection for the hand and underside of the hand when writing or drawing. In particular, the present invention is directed to providing protection of the hand against ink smudges, smears, blots, pencils or ink marks.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • One of the most annoying aspects of writing is the accumulation of ink or graphite on the user's hands. Such ink smudge marks create a mess on the hand, which can then create hard to remove stains on clothing, walls and furniture. Such marks can damage expensive clothing. There have been a number of inventions directed to the area of devices which provide protection to the hand. U.S. Pat. No. 6,550,068 dated Apr. 22, 2003 to Gladys F. Materon discloses a glove and writing utensil combination for aiding in the holding of a writing utensil and includes a glove having a palm portion, a back portion, a plurality of finger portions and a thumb portion. The finger portions include a first through fourth finger portions. The first finger portion is positioned adjacent to the thumb portion. The glove has a wrist opening extending therein for receiving a hand. A first attaching member is coupled to the first finger. A writing utensil is provided having a second attaching member attached thereto. The first and second attaching members may selectively attach the writing utensil to the first finger portion.
  • U.S. Pat. No. 4,704,742 to Rudolph Foster dated Nov. 10, 1987 is directed to a writing shield having apparatus for preventing a document being written upon from being soiled by the hand of a writer who might work in a dirty environment. The shield includes a J-shaped body that conforms to the back or heel of the hand and the outside of the little finger when the hand is in a writing position. A ring like member is secured to the body that can be slipped over the little finger to removably attach the shield to the hand. The body is contoured so that it will glide over the document in one point contact there against during the writing process.
  • U.S. Pat. No. 4,845,777 to Susan M. The sleeves being composed of hydrophobic polymeric or other materials coated or otherwise laden with disinfecting or pharmaceutical agents for destroying disease causing virus inter alia. The hand protector being designed to be attached separately or in a sheath in a non-obtrusive position on the users' body such that only the hand to be protected is required to employ the hand protector for use.

An adhesive backing on the inner surface of the strip is present to secure the protector to the finger and the remainder of the circumference of the opening, and a release liner is releasably affixed to the adhesive backing, which is designed for removal before use. In an alternative embodiment, the fingertip protector is snugly secured to the finger by strips of hook and loop fastening material disposed about the circumference of the open end of the sleeve.
  • While there have been a number of devices for protecting the hands, there have been no implements for easily protecting the hands during writing.
  • It is an object of the present invention to provide a simple smudge guard device which can protect the hand of a user.
  • It is a further object of the present invention to provide a hand protector which prevents the user from getting ink on the hand.
  • It is yet a further object of the present invention to provide a smudge guard system for the protection of a writing hand.

  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • A hand protection device comprising a partial glove member having a cover portion for the pinky of the writing hand of a user and a shield extending from the pinky cover member and side of the palm and a portion of the user's palm; and a wrist attachment for securing the glove member to the user's hand and wrist.
  • In a further embodiment, the invention is a hand protection device comprising a partial glove member having a cover portion for the pinky of the writing hand of a user and a shield extending from the pinky cover member and side of the palm and a portion of the user's palm and an adjustable wrist attachment for securing the glove member to the user's hand and wrist.
  • In still a further embodiment, the invention is a hand protection device comprising a partial glove member comprising an ink absorbent material having a cover portion for the pinky of the writing hand of a user and a shield extending from the pinky cover member and side of the palm and a portion of the user's palm and a wrist attachment for securing the partial glove member to the user's hand and wrist.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • The present invention is described with reference to the enclosed Figures wherein the same numbers are used. As shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the invention is a hand protector 10 which prevents the user from getting ink on the side of the pinky and side of the hand proximate to the pinky.
  • The invention comprises a partial glove member 10 which is attached to the user's writing hand (either left or right). The partial glove member includes a finger protection member 18 which fits over the user's pinky and a shield 14 which extends down the pinky side of the hand and which forms a partial shield around the top and palm of the user's hand. In all embodiments, the invention can be inter-changeable between left and right hands. The invention includes a cuff 12. The back of the cuff is shown at 16. As shown in FIG. 4, the cuff 12 in an alternative embodiment may be adjustable using a plurality of adjustment means, including Velcro.
  • The partial glove and shield can be made from a plurality of materials including cotton, leather, wool, synthetics or plastics. In one embodiment, the shield can comprise a latex material which may be thrown out after a single usage. Preferably, the shield should comprise an absorbent material.
  • As shown in FIG. 5, the present invention can be worn on either hand of the end user. It will protect the user's hand when writing.
  • These and other features of the invention are to be determined with reference to the claims appended hereto.
