Abstract
The URB-Brella is an umbrella that is inserted into a standard trailer hitch on an automobile that provides fashionable protection from the sun or rain. The URB-Brella also converts to a patio or beach umbrella. The base is comprised from aluminum or other strong yet light weight materials, the design for the URB-Brella base is similar that of a standard bicycle rack that attaches to a standard automobile trailer hitch. The URB portion is that of a standard umbrella, opening up the center then attaching to an over head arm. Once in the over head potion the center pole is released by means of a release button. This allows the URB-Brella to hang over the car without the center pole touching the top of the automobile. The URB top attaches to the over hanging bracket via a standard ball joint assembly which reduces the sway of the the URB in the wind. The length adjustable, via a push button mechanism, over head arm is inserted in the height adjustable base, via a push button mechanism. Once removed from the automobile, the entire unit maybe folded, via hindged parts, and stored for ease.
Description
- The “URB-Brella” is an umbrella that attaches to a standard hitch on an automobile providing fashionable protection from the sun or rain. The URB-Brella also converts to a patio or beach umbrella. The URB-Brella is inserted into the car hitch to cover the top of the car or the tailgate of the car, providing protection while picnicking or having a tailgate party.
- I created the URB-Brella while floating in my sensory deprivation tank, as a solution to parking my convertible in the open elements. The URB-Brella has an optional bike rack and mosquito net. You cannot drive with the URB-Brella in its open position. The base may remain attached to the hitch while the top brace and umbrella portion being easily detached and stored in the trunk.
- Once the URB-Brella is in the open position, the bottom pole detaches by means of a push button mechanism to allow for clearance over the top of the car. Or, by keeping the center pole in place and attaching an extension pole to easily convert for patio use by inserting into any standard umbrella base or beach use by screwing into the sand.
- The overhead arm adjusts, also by push button mechanism, to allow for the top clearance of any size automobile. The base that fits into the hitch is also adjustable in height, by a push button mechanism.
- The URB-Brella is available in several distinct designs, SEE ATTACHED.
- While most URB-Brellas are very dome-like in shape the “Pimp-Daddy” is a Pagoda style umbrella.
- The HARD HAT—the construction site of a skyscraper building, in the foreground a macho contractor's truck like a dodge ram, the “URB” is turned over the tailgate where two men are reviewing plans that are spread out on a table under the “URB”.
- The CHEF'S HAT—a Porsche valet parked in front of a posh Hollywood restaurant
- The FIRE HELMET—a hummer fire truck with the “URB” turned over the tailgate with victims wrapped in blankets breathing 02, in the background a building on fire.
- The BERRET—a garnet red Lexus coupe with a garnet red beret “URB” with black trim parked on a movie set; in the background are director's chairs, people standing around, lights and cameras.
- The TOP HAT—a Rolls Royce and a limo parked nose to nose at the tennis club.
