Description
- The present invention relates to a sizer designed for a garment hanger, and, more particularly, to a sizer attachable to a garment hanger and a method for making the sizer.
- There are many types of sizers designed for garment hangers.
FIG. 5 shows a partially perspective view of agarment hanger 50 provided with an existingsizer 55. As can be seen, thegarment hanger 50 has aconnector 51 formed with a threadedhole 52 for amental hook 53 to be screwed in and with a pair ofprotuberances 54 on sides thereof, while thesizer 55 has a pair ofopenings 56, into which theprotuberances 54 may snap so as to connect thesizer 55 to thehanger 50. However, theseopenings 56 break the continuity of the outer sides of thehollow sizer 55, on which sizes or letters cannot be inscribed in large size. Theseopenings 56 also lead to an unfavorable appearance of thesizer 55. - Furthermore, if it is required to make a
sizer 6 having a ridge-like top, such as one in a shape like a triangular prism, as shown inFIG. 6 , a hole is normally bored directly at thetop 61 ofsizer 6 by adrill 62 so that the hook of a garment hanger may extend through it. During the meantime, however, the ridge-like top 61 will cause thedrill 62 to depart from the central axis of thesizer 6 and make the hole to be bored incorrectly. Theresulting sizer 6 appears eccentric, as shown inFIG. 6B , after being put round ahook 62 on agarment hanger 65. - Therefore, there is a need for an improved sizer and an improved method for making the sizer to overcome the flaws of the prior art.
- It is an objective of the present invention to provide a sizer which has continuous side faces for words or letters in large size to be inscribed thereon.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a sizer which can be surely attached to a garment hanger in addition to the benefit of the continuous sides faces.
- Still another objective of the present invention is to provide a method for making a sizer in which a hole can be bored correctly in such a position that the sizer can be attached to a garment hanger symmetrically about a hook.
- To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the present invention provides a sizer attachable to a garment hanger having a connector designed to be connected with a hook. The connector is formed with a plurality of first retainers on sides thereof. The sizer includes a hollow body having a plurality of sidewalls, a top connecting the sidewalls, and a hole defined in the top for the hook to extend through. The sidewalls and the top define an inner space for receiving the connector of the garment hanger. Furthermore, the hollow body has inner sides formed with second retainers engagable with the first retainers when the connector is entirely received in the inner space, so as to retain the sizer on the garment hanger.
- The present invention also provides a method for making the sizer. The method comprises the steps of:
- preparing a sizer body having a ridge-like top;
- cutting said ridge-like top to form a U-shaped notch having a planar bottom; and
- boring a hole in said planar bottom of said U-shaped notch in a predetermined position.
- Other objectives, advantages and novel features of this invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
-
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view showing a garment hanger provided with a sizer in accordance with the present invention, with portions of the garment hanger being broken away; -
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the garment hanger and the sizer ofFIG. 1 ; -
FIG. 3 is a flow chat of a method for making a sizer in accordance with the present invention; -
FIGS. 4A to 4C are schematic views illustrating how a sizer is made by using the inventive method shown inFIG. 3 ; -
FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view showing a garment hanger provided with an existing sizer; -
FIG. 6A is a schematic view illustrating how a sizer is made by using a conventional method; and -
FIG. 6B is a schematic view showing a garment hanger provided with a sizer made by using the conventional method. - Referring to
FIG. 1 , there is shown a partially perspective view of agarment hanger 2 provided with a sizer 1 in accordance with the present invention. Thegarment hanger 2 includes aconnector 22 having a threadedhole 23 defined to be connected with ahook 27, with the sizer 1 being attachable to thehanger 2 outside theconnector 22. - The sizer 1 includes a
hollow body 11 to designate the nature, such as the size, of a garment hung on thehanger 2. Thehollow body 11 has a plurality ofsidewalls 12, atop 13 connecting thesidewalls 12, and ahole 131 defined in thetop 13 for thehook 27 to extend through. Thesidewalls 12 and thetop 13 further define aninner space 14 for receiving theconnector 22 of thegarment hanger 2. - In a preferred embodiment, the
connector 22 has a predetermined length L1 and a predetermined width W1, and theinner space 14 of the sizer 1 has a length L2 slightly larger than the predetermined length L1 of theconnector 22 and a width W2 slightly larger than the predetermined width W1 of thesame connector 22. This enables theconnector 22 to be received in theinner space 14. - Additionally, the
connector 22 is further formed with a pair of first retainers configured asprotuberances 24 on sides thereof, and thehollow body 11 has inner sides formed with a pair of second retainers configured asrecesses 16, which can snap onto and be engaged with the first retainers or theprotuberances 24 when theconnector 22 is entirely received in theinner space 14, as shown inFIG. 2 , thereby retaining the sizer 1 on thegarment hanger 2 outside theconnector 22. - In the preferred embodiment, the sizer 1 is shaped like a triangle prism having a ridge-
like top 13, in which thehole 131 is defined. In fact, thehole 131 can be formed correctly in the ridge-like top 13 by using an inventive method, as shown inFIG. 3 , comprising: - a
first step 301 of preparing a sizer body having a ridge-like top; - a
second step 302 of cutting the ridge-like top to form a U-shaped notch having a planar bottom; and - a
third step 303 of boring a hole in the planar bottom of the U-shaped notch in a predetermined position. - As clearly shown in
FIGS. 4A to 4C, the inventive sizer 1 can be made by preparing asizer body 17 having a ridge-like top 18, followed by cutting the ridge-like top 18 to form aU-shaped notch 19 having aplanar bottom 191. Ahole 192 is then bored in theplanar bottom 191 of the U-shapednotch 19 in a predetermined position, particularly at the center of theplanar bottom 191. - As a result, the sizer 1 can be attached to the
garment hanger 2 symmetrically about thehook 27 and hence gives a favorable impression to a person. The inventive method also provides a way by which the hole can be bored in the ridge-like top quickly as well as correctly. - From the foregoing, it is apparent that the present invention has the following advantages:
- 1. It provides the inventive sizer with continuous side faces for sizes or letters in large size to be inscribed thereon.
- 2. The inventive sizer can be surely attached to the garment hanger in addition to the benefit of the continuous sides faces.
- 3. With the method of the present invention, the hole can be bored so correctly in the ridge-like top that the sizer can be attached to the garment hanger symmetrically about the hook and hence gives a favorable impression to a person.
- 4. And also with the method of the present invention, the hole can be bored in the ridge-like top quickly as well as correctly.
- Although embodiments together with structures and functions of the present invention have been described in detail, many modifications and variations may be made from the teachings disclosed hereinabove. For example, the first retainers may be configured as recesses and the second retainers may, correspondingly, configured as protuberances. Therefore, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that any modification and variation equivalent to the spirit of the present invention be regarded to fall into the scope coved by the appended claims.
