Abstract
A pump includes a piping and a pumping device. The pumping device includes a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.
Description
- 1. FIELD OF INVENTION
- The present invention relates to a pump.
- 2. RELATED PRIOR ART
- Referring to
FIG. 12 , there is shown a conventional pump. The conventional pump includes acylinder 1′ for containing a piston, arod 6 connected to the piston, a handle 3 connected to therod 6, apipe 2′ connected to thecylinder 1′ and a nozzle 4 connected to thepipe 2′The nozzle 4 is for engagement with a valve installed on a tire 5 so that air can be pumped into a tire of a bicycle for example. For the convenience of the storage of the pump, thecylinder 1′ and thepipe 2′ are both short. In use, the pump must however be positioned very close to the tire of the bicycle, and this is inconvenient. - Therefore, the present invention is intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.
- According to the present invention, a pump includes a piping and a pumping device. The pumping device includes a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.
- The primary advantage of the pump according to the present invention is that the piping can be positioned neatly beside the pumping device in an idle position.
- Other advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description referring to the drawings.
- The present invention will be described through detailed illustration of the preferred embodiment referring to the drawings.

FIG. 12 is a partial rear view of a bicycle and a conventional pump. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 and 2 , there is shown a pump according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention. The pump includes apumping device 2 and apiping 1. - The
pumping device 2 includes acylinder 20, apiston 61 positioned in thecylinder 20, arod 60 connected to thepiston 61, a ring 66 connected to a first end of thecylinder 20 in order to retain thepiston 61 in thecylinder 20, afirst holder 70 connected to therod 60, ahandle 80 pivotally connected to thefirst holder 70, aplug 30 attached to a second end of thecylinder 20, asecond holder 40 connected to the end of thecylinder 20, atread 43 pivotally connected to thesecond holder 40 and aconnector 50 for connecting thesecond holder 40 and theplug 30 to thecylinder 20. - The
cylinder 20 includes a thread on an internal side near the first end although not shown. Thecylinder 20 defines twoapertures 21 near the second end. - The ring 66 includes a
thread 62 on an external side. Thethread 62 of the ring 66 is for engagement with the thread of thecylinder 20 in order to attach the ring 66 to thecylinder 20. There is agroove 64 around the ring 66. - The
rod 60 includes an end connected to thepiston 61 and an opposite end formed with a thread 63. Therod 60 and thepiston 61 may be made separate elements and then connected to each other, or they may be made a piece. - The
first holder 70 includes a thread on an internal side for engagement with the thread 63 and ahook 71 on an external side. - The
handle 80 is connected to thefirst holder 70 by means of a fastener such as apin 81. Thehandle 80 includes arecess 82 on an external side and aridge 83 on an internal side. - The
plug 30 defines an aperture 31. - The
second holder 40 includes an aperture 41 therein near an end, aspace 44 therein near an opposite end and twoelastic jaws 45 on the wall of thespace 44. - The
tread 43 is pivotally connected to thesecond holder 40 by means of apin 42. - The
connector 50 is inserted in theapertures 21, 31 and 41. - The
piping 1 includes aconnector 13 connected to theconnector 50, afirst pipe 11 connected to theconnector 13, afirst joint 14 connected to thefirst pipe 11, asecond joint 16 pivotally connected to thefirst joint 14, asecond pipe 12 connected to thesecond joint 16 and anozzle 15 connected to thesecond pipe 12. - A first end of the
first pipe 11 is connected to theconnector 13 by means of aring 111. - The
first joint 14 includes afirst section 141 and asecond section 142. A second end of thefirst pipe 11 is connected to thefirst section 141 of thefirst joint 14 by means of anelastic band 112. A seal 143 is installed around thesecond section 142 of thefirst joint 14. - The
second joint 16 includes afirst section 162 for receiving thesecond section 142 of thefirst joint 14 and the seal 143 and asecond section 163 connected to a first end of thesecond pipe 12 by means of anelastic band 122. Afastener 161 is driven into thesecond section 142 of thefirst joint 14 through thefirst section 162 of thesecond joint 16 in order to connect thesecond joint 16 to thefirst joint 14. - The second end of the
second pipe 12 is connected to thenozzle 15 by means of aring 121. - Referring to
FIGS. 3 and 4 , thehandle 80 is located in an idle position on thefirst holder 70 so that the length of the former is substantially parallel to that of the latter. Theridge 83 is fit in thegroove 64 so that thehandle 80 is retained in the idle position on thefirst holder 70 and that therod 60 is retained in a retracted position. Thehook 71 is positioned in therecess 82. Thefirst joint 14 and thesecond joint 16 are hooked by means of thehook 71. Thefirst pipe 11 and thesecond pipe 12 are positioned beside thecylinder 20. Although not shown, thehandle 80 can be moved to an active position on thefirst holder 70 so that the length of the former is substantially perpendicular to that of the latter. - Referring to
FIG. 5 , thefirst joint 14 and thesecond joint 16 are moved from thehook 71. Thefirst pipe 11 and thesecond pipe 12 are pivoted from thecylinder 20. Thefirst pipe 11 is pivoted from thesecond pipe 12. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , the first joint 14 and the second joint 16 are hooked to thehook 71. Thesecond pipe 12 is positioned beside thecylinder 20. Thefirst pipe 11 is pivoted from thesecond pipe 12. - Referring to
FIG. 7 , air can go from thefirst pipe 11 to thefirst section 141 of the first joint 14. The air can go from thefirst section 141 to thesecond section 142 of the first joint 14, from thesecond section 142 of the first joint 14 to thefirst section 162 of the second joint 16, from thefirst section 162 to thesecond section 163 of the second joint 16, and from thesecond section 163 of the second joint 16 to thesecond pipe 12. The seal 143 is provided between thesecond section 142 of the first joint 14 and thefirst section 162 of the second joint 16 in order to prevent leakage of the air from the first joint 14 and the second joint 16. - Referring to
FIG. 8 , in use, thenozzle 15 is moved from thesecond holder 40. - Referring to
FIG. 9 , when not in use, thenozzle 15 is positioned in thespace 44 of thesecond holder 40 and clamped by means of theelastic jaws 45. Thenozzle 15 is mostly positioned in thesecond holder 40 so that thepiping 1 looks neat in this way. - Referring to
FIGS. 10 and 11 , thenozzle 15 is in engagement with a valve installed on atire 91 of abicycle 90 for example. Thepiping 1 is stretched for an appropriate distance from thetire 91 of thebicycle 90 in order to provide easy operation of the pump. - The pump of the present invention exhibits at least three advantages. Firstly, the piping can be stretched and moved to various positions due to the use of the first and second joints. Secondly, when not in use, the piping looks neat as the first and second joints are hooked by means of the hook. Thirdly, when not in use, the piping looks neat as the nozzle is positioned in the second holder.
- The present invention has been described through the illustration of the preferred embodiment. Those skilled in the art can derive variations from the preferred embodiment without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the preferred embodiment shall not limit the scope of the present invention defined in the claims.
Claims (15)
1. A pump comprising a piping and a pumping device comprising a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.
2. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the piping comprises a first pipe and a second pipe pivotally connected to the first pipe.
3. The pump according to claim 2 wherein the piping comprises a joint set for pivotally connecting the first and second pipes to each other.
4. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the joint set comprises a first joint and a second joint pivotally connected to the first joint.
5. The pump according to claim 4 wherein the joint set comprises at least one seal between the first and second joints in order to prevent leakage.
6. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the first holder can hold the joint set.
7. The pump according to claim 6 wherein the first holder comprises a hook for hooking the joint set.
8. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the handle comprises a recess for containing the joint set when the handle is in the idle position.
9. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle shields the first holder in the idle position.
10. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the ring defines a groove, wherein the handle comprises a ridge for fitting in the groove of the ring in order to retain the handle in the idle position and retain the rod in a retracted position.
11. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the piping comprises a nozzle for engagement with a valve of an inflatable object.
12. The pump according to claim 11 wherein the second holder comprises a space for contain the nozzle.
13. The pump according to claim 12 wherein the second holder comprises two elastic jaws on the wall of the space in order to clamp the nozzle.
14. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the pumping device comprises a tread pivotally connected to the second holder.
15. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the pumping device comprises a plug fit in the cylinder and a connector inserted in the second holder, the cylinder and the plug.
