Abstract

A pump includes a piping and a pumping device. The pumping device includes a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
  • 1. FIELD OF INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a pump.
  • 2. RELATED PRIOR ART
  • Referring to FIG. 12, there is shown a conventional pump. The conventional pump includes a cylinder 1′ for containing a piston, a rod 6 connected to the piston, a handle 3 connected to the rod 6, a pipe 2′ connected to the cylinder 1′ and a nozzle 4 connected to the pipe 2′The nozzle 4 is for engagement with a valve installed on a tire 5 so that air can be pumped into a tire of a bicycle for example. For the convenience of the storage of the pump, the cylinder 1′ and the pipe 2′ are both short. In use, the pump must however be positioned very close to the tire of the bicycle, and this is inconvenient.
  • Therefore, the present invention is intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.
  • SUMMARY OF INVENTION
  • According to the present invention, a pump includes a piping and a pumping device. The pumping device includes a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.
  • The primary advantage of the pump according to the present invention is that the piping can be positioned neatly beside the pumping device in an idle position.
  • Other advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description referring to the drawings.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown a pump according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention. The pump includes a pumping device 2 and a piping 1.
  • The pumping device 2 includes a cylinder 20, a piston 61 positioned in the cylinder 20, a rod 60 connected to the piston 61, a ring 66 connected to a first end of the cylinder 20 in order to retain the piston 61 in the cylinder 20, a first holder 70 connected to the rod 60, a handle 80 pivotally connected to the first holder 70, a plug 30 attached to a second end of the cylinder 20, a second holder 40 connected to the end of the cylinder 20, a tread 43 pivotally connected to the second holder 40 and a connector 50 for connecting the second holder 40 and the plug 30 to the cylinder 20.
  • The cylinder 20 includes a thread on an internal side near the first end although not shown. The cylinder 20 defines two apertures 21 near the second end.
  • The ring 66 includes a thread 62 on an external side. The thread 62 of the ring 66 is for engagement with the thread of the cylinder 20 in order to attach the ring 66 to the cylinder 20. There is a groove 64 around the ring 66.
  • The rod 60 includes an end connected to the piston 61 and an opposite end formed with a thread 63. The rod 60 and the piston 61 may be made separate elements and then connected to each other, or they may be made a piece.
  • The first holder 70 includes a thread on an internal side for engagement with the thread 63 and a hook 71 on an external side.
  • The handle 80 is connected to the first holder 70 by means of a fastener such as a pin 81. The handle 80 includes a recess 82 on an external side and a ridge 83 on an internal side.
  • The plug 30 defines an aperture 31.
  • The second holder 40 includes an aperture 41 therein near an end, a space 44 therein near an opposite end and two elastic jaws 45 on the wall of the space 44.
  • The tread 43 is pivotally connected to the second holder 40 by means of a pin 42.
  • The connector 50 is inserted in the apertures 21, 31 and 41.
  • The piping 1 includes a connector 13 connected to the connector 50, a first pipe 11 connected to the connector 13, a first joint 14 connected to the first pipe 11, a second joint 16 pivotally connected to the first joint 14, a second pipe 12 connected to the second joint 16 and a nozzle 15 connected to the second pipe 12.
  • A first end of the first pipe 11 is connected to the connector 13 by means of a ring 111.
  • The first joint 14 includes a first section 141 and a second section 142. A second end of the first pipe 11 is connected to the first section 141 of the first joint 14 by means of an elastic band 112. A seal 143 is installed around the second section 142 of the first joint 14.
  • The second joint 16 includes a first section 162 for receiving the second section 142 of the first joint 14 and the seal 143 and a second section 163 connected to a first end of the second pipe 12 by means of an elastic band 122. A fastener 161 is driven into the second section 142 of the first joint 14 through the first section 162 of the second joint 16 in order to connect the second joint 16 to the first joint 14.
  • The second end of the second pipe 12 is connected to the nozzle 15 by means of a ring 121.
  • Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, the handle 80 is located in an idle position on the first holder 70 so that the length of the former is substantially parallel to that of the latter. The ridge 83 is fit in the groove 64 so that the handle 80 is retained in the idle position on the first holder 70 and that the rod 60 is retained in a retracted position. The hook 71 is positioned in the recess 82. The first joint 14 and the second joint 16 are hooked by means of the hook 71. The first pipe 11 and the second pipe 12 are positioned beside the cylinder 20. Although not shown, the handle 80 can be moved to an active position on the first holder 70 so that the length of the former is substantially perpendicular to that of the latter.
  • Referring to FIG. 5, the first joint 14 and the second joint 16 are moved from the hook 71. The first pipe 11 and the second pipe 12 are pivoted from the cylinder 20. The first pipe 11 is pivoted from the second pipe 12.
  • Referring to FIG. 6, the first joint 14 and the second joint 16 are hooked to the hook 71. The second pipe 12 is positioned beside the cylinder 20. The first pipe 11 is pivoted from the second pipe 12.
  • Referring to FIG. 7, air can go from the first pipe 11 to the first section 141 of the first joint 14. The air can go from the first section 141 to the second section 142 of the first joint 14, from the second section 142 of the first joint 14 to the first section 162 of the second joint 16, from the first section 162 to the second section 163 of the second joint 16, and from the second section 163 of the second joint 16 to the second pipe 12. The seal 143 is provided between the second section 142 of the first joint 14 and the first section 162 of the second joint 16 in order to prevent leakage of the air from the first joint 14 and the second joint 16.
  • Referring to FIG. 8, in use, the nozzle 15 is moved from the second holder 40.
  • Referring to FIG. 9, when not in use, the nozzle 15 is positioned in the space 44 of the second holder 40 and clamped by means of the elastic jaws 45. The nozzle 15 is mostly positioned in the second holder 40 so that the piping 1 looks neat in this way.
  • Referring to FIGS. 10 and 11, the nozzle 15 is in engagement with a valve installed on a tire 91 of a bicycle 90 for example. The piping 1 is stretched for an appropriate distance from the tire 91 of the bicycle 90 in order to provide easy operation of the pump.
  • The pump of the present invention exhibits at least three advantages. Firstly, the piping can be stretched and moved to various positions due to the use of the first and second joints. Secondly, when not in use, the piping looks neat as the first and second joints are hooked by means of the hook. Thirdly, when not in use, the piping looks neat as the nozzle is positioned in the second holder.
  • The present invention has been described through the illustration of the preferred embodiment. Those skilled in the art can derive variations from the preferred embodiment without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the preferred embodiment shall not limit the scope of the present invention defined in the claims.

Claims (15)

1. A pump comprising a piping and a pumping device comprising a cylinder connected to the piping, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring connected to an end of the cylinder in order to retain the piston in the cylinder, a first holder connected to the rod in order to hold the piping, a handle pivotally connected to the first holder between an idle position and an active position and a second holder connected to an opposite end of the cylinder in order to hold the piping.
2. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the piping comprises a first pipe and a second pipe pivotally connected to the first pipe.
3. The pump according to claim 2 wherein the piping comprises a joint set for pivotally connecting the first and second pipes to each other.
4. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the joint set comprises a first joint and a second joint pivotally connected to the first joint.
5. The pump according to claim 4 wherein the joint set comprises at least one seal between the first and second joints in order to prevent leakage.
6. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the first holder can hold the joint set.
7. The pump according to claim 6 wherein the first holder comprises a hook for hooking the joint set.
8. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the handle comprises a recess for containing the joint set when the handle is in the idle position.
9. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle shields the first holder in the idle position.
10. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the ring defines a groove, wherein the handle comprises a ridge for fitting in the groove of the ring in order to retain the handle in the idle position and retain the rod in a retracted position.
11. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the piping comprises a nozzle for engagement with a valve of an inflatable object.
12. The pump according to claim 11 wherein the second holder comprises a space for contain the nozzle.
13. The pump according to claim 12 wherein the second holder comprises two elastic jaws on the wall of the space in order to clamp the nozzle.
14. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the pumping device comprises a tread pivotally connected to the second holder.
15. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the pumping device comprises a plug fit in the cylinder and a connector inserted in the second holder, the cylinder and the plug.
