A pump includes a cylinder, a nozzle connected to an end of the cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring installed at an opposite end of the cylinder, a connector connected to the rod and a handle for connection to the connector in an active position where the handle extends beyond the cylinder and in an idle position where the handle shields the cylinder.
Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to a pump and, more particularly, to a compact pump.
- 2. Related Prior Art
- Disclosed in Taiwanese Patent M267345 is a conventional pump. This conventional pump includes a
cylinder 10 and a handle 30. The handle 30 always extends beyond thecylinder 10 no matter the pump is in use or not. The handle 30 occupies quite some space in addition to what thecylinder 10 occupies. That is, the smallest entire length of the pump is the length of the handle 30 plus that of thecylinder 10. The pump is bulky, and causes inconvenience for a user trying to store it. - The present invention is therefore intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.
- According to the present invention, a pump includes a cylinder, a nozzle connected to an end of the cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring installed at an opposite end of the cylinder, a connector connected to the rod and a handle for connection to the connector in an active position where the handle extends beyond the cylinder and in an idle position where the handle shields the cylinder.
- The primary advantage of the pump of the present invention is that when the pump is not in use, the handle shields the cylinder so that the entire pump occupies a little space, and can conveniently be stored.
- Other advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description referring to the attached drawings.
- The present invention will be described through detailed illustration of two embodiments referring to the drawings.

FIG. 9 is a cross-sectional view of the pump in another position than shown inFIG. 8 . - Referring to
FIGS. 1 and 2 , there is shown a pump according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The pump includes acylinder 20, anozzle 25 connected to an end of thecylinder 20, apiston 22 positioned in thecylinder 20, arod 21 connected to thepiston 22, aring 23 installed at an opposite end of thecylinder 20 in order to retain thepiston 22 in thecylinder 20, aconnector 24 connected to therod 21 and ahandle 10 connected to theconnector 24. - Referring to
FIG. 2 , thecylinder 20 includes a plurality ofgrooves 201 on an internal side. Thering 23 includes a corresponding number ofribs 231 on an internal side. Theribs 231 are fit in thegrooves 201 in order to firmly attach thering 23 to thecylinder 20. - The
connector 24 is formed with athread 241. Thehandle 10 includes afirst thread 11 on an internal side near an end and asecond thread 12 on the internal side near an opposite end. Thefirst thread 11 and thesecond thread 12 are both for engagement with thethread 241. Thehandle 10 is rotated on theconnector 24 in order to properly engage thefirst thread 11 of the former with thethread 241 of the latter. - Referring to
FIG. 3 , thefirst thread 11 of thehandle 10 is in engagement with thethread 241 of theconnector 24 in order to connect thehandle 10 to theconnector 24. - Referring to
FIG. 4 , thehandle 10 is operated in order to move thepiston 22 in thecylinder 20 through therod 23. By means of moving thepiston 22 back and forth in thecylinder 20, pumping is done. - Referring to
FIG. 5 , thehandle 10 can further be rotated on theconnector 24 so that thefirst thread 11 of the former is disengaged from thethread 241 of the latter. Now, thehandle 10 can be pushed toward thecylinder 20. Finally, thesecond thread 12 of thehandle 10 can be engaged with thethread 241 of theconnector 24. Thehandle 10 shields thecylinder 20, and adds almost nothing to the entire length of the pump. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , the entire pump occupies only a little space. - Referring to
FIG. 7 , there is shown a pump according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The second embodiment is like the first embodiment except a few things. Firstly, there is used aconnector 51 instead of theconnector 24. Theconnector 51 includes arib 511 instead of thethread 241. Secondly, there is used ahandle 40 instead of thehandle 10. Thehandle 40 includes afirst groove 41 instead of thefirst thread 11 of thehandle 10 and asecond groove 42 instead of thesecond thread 12 of thehandle 10. - Referring to
FIG. 8 , therib 511 of theconnector 51 is fit in thefirst groove 41 of thehandle 40 in order to connect theconnector 51 to thehandle 40. Thehandle 40 is operable in order to operate the pump. - Referring to
FIG. 9 , thehandle 40 is pushed toward thecylinder 20 really hard so that therib 511 of theconnector 51 is moved from thefirst groove 41 of thehandle 40. Now, therib 511 of theconnector 51 can be fit in thesecond groove 42 of thehandle 40. Thehandle 40 shields thecylinder 20, and adds almost nothing to the entire length of the pump. - The pump of the present invention exhibits at least two advantages. Firstly, when the pump is not in use, the handle shields the cylinder so that the entire pump occupies a little space. Secondly, the change of the positions of the handle on the connector is easy since threads are used in an aspect and a rib and two grooves are used in another aspect.
- The present invention has been described through the illustration of the embodiments. Those skilled in the art can derive variations from the embodiments without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the embodiments shall not limit the scope of the present invention defined in the claims.
Claims (14)
1. A pump comprising a cylinder, a nozzle connected to an end of the cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring installed at an opposite end of the cylinder, a connector connected to the rod and a handle for connection to the connector in an active position where the handle extends beyond the cylinder and in an idle position where the handle shields the cylinder.
2. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a connection portion for connection with the connector in the active position.
3. The pump according to claim 2 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the connection portion of the handle.
4. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a thread, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the thread of the handle.
5. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a groove, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the groove of the handle.
6. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a connection portion for connection with the connector in the idle position.
7. The pump according to claim 6 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the connection portion of the handle.
8. The pump according to claim 7 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a thread, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the thread of the handle.
9. The pump according to claim 7 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a groove, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the grove of the handle.
10. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a first connection portion for connection with the connector in the active position and a second connection portion for connection with the connector in the idle position.
11. The pump according to claim 10 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the first and second connection portions of the handle.
12. The pump according to claim 111 wherein the first and second connection portions of the handle are threads, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the first and second threads of the handle.
13. The pump according to claim 111 wherein the first and second connection portions of the handle are grooves, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the first and second grooves of the handle.
14. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the cylinder comprises at least one groove, wherein the ring comprises at least one rib fit in the groove of the cylinder.
