Description
- This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Ser. Nos. 60/715,655 filed Sep. 9, 2005 the disclosure and content of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
- The present invention relates to a storage device and, in particular, to a tool pouch for storing and/or carrying tools, construction materials, and other similar devices.
- In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, a storage device for storing tools and other construction devices and materials is provided. The storage device generally comprises a first storage compartment containing a front panel, back panel, a first and a second lateral side panels, and a bottom panel. The top of the storage compartment includes an opening for permitting access to the storage compartment. At least one dividing member defines a plurality of storage pockets within the first storage compartment. The dividing member contains a lower edge connected to the bottom panel of the first storage compartment, a front edge connected to the front panel of the first storage compartment, and a back edge connected to the back panel of the first storage compartment. The storage device also includes a second storage compartment connected to the first storage compartment. A tool slot is defined by the front panel of the first storage compartment, a back panel of the second storage compartment, and the connections between the first storage compartment and the second storage compartment.
- The details of these and other embodiments of the present invention are set forth in the accompanying drawings and the description below. Other features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the description and drawings, and from the claims.
- The present invention may take physical form in certain parts and steps, embodiments of which will be described in detail in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form a part hereof, wherein:
-
FIG. 1 shows an exploded, perspective view of an exemplary embodiment of the storage device of present invention; -
FIG. 2 shows another perspective view of the storage device of the present invention; -
FIG. 3 shows a top view of the storage device of the present invention; and -
FIG. 4 shows a front view of the storage device of the present invention. -
FIG. 1 shows astorage pouch 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the invention.Tool pouch 100 includes astorage compartment 102. Thestorage compartment 102 defines a pocket area and an opening for permitting access to the pocket area. Thestorage compartment 102 includes aback side panel 104, afront side panel 106, a firstlateral side panel 108, and a secondlateral side panel 110, which is spaced generally parallel to the first lateral side. Thestorage compartment 102 further includes abottom side panel 112. In the preferred embodiment, thebottom side panel 112 extends from the bottom portion of thefront side panel 106 to the bottom portion of theback side panel 104. The size ofstorage compartment 102 may be conveniently sized for carrying a wide variety of tools, or construction materials other items. -
Storage compartment 102 also contains at least one dividingmember 113 for dividing the storage compartment into separate storage areas 114, 116. As shown inFIGS. 2 and 3 , the dividingmember 113 has a lower edge 118 that connects to thebottom side 112 of thestorage compartment 102. The dividingmember 113 further includes afront edge 120 connected to thefront side 106 and aback side edge 121 for connecting to theback side panel 104 of thestorage compartment 102. Thestorage compartment 102 can be constructed from a wide variety of suitable materials such as leather, nylon, Cordura, or the other structurally strong material. - Referring to back to
FIG. 1 , thetool pouch 100 may include anattachment system 122. In the preferred embodiment, theattachment system 122 removably connects thetool pouch 102 to a tool belt (not shown). More specifically, theattachment system 122 forms an elongated belt loop through which a belt (not shown) can be threaded. Theattachment system 122 may be formed by folding over the top portion of thebacking 124 and affixing it to the bottom portion of thebacking 126. Theattachment system 122 can be either fixedly or removably secured to thetool pouch 100 by riveting, stitching, clips, or other suitable attachment methods. Alternatively, theattachment system 122 may include clips, metal tabs, or other suitable attachment devices that permit thetool pouch 100 to be removably connected to other corresponding attachment devices (such as clips, tabs, etc.) on an external tool belt or other tool bag suspension systems. - The
tool pouch 100 may also include asecond storage compartment 128 either fixedly or removably connected to thefirst storage compartment 102. Thesecond storage compartment 128 may be connected to thefirst storage compartment 102 by riveting, stitching, clips, snaps, or other suitable attachment methods. In the preferred embodiment shown inFIG. 1 , thesecond storage compartment 128 is fixedly connected to thefirst storage compartment 102 viarivets 130, 132, and 134. A tool holster orholding slot 136 is defined by the space between thefirst storage compartment 102 and thesecond storage pocket 128. Therivets 130, 132 and 134 function as support members for a tool or other devices inserted in the tool holster orholding slot 136. For example, in the preferred embodiment shown inFIG. 1 , therivets 130, 132 and 134 function as support members for anangle square 138. One of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that the location of the rivets that connect thefirst storage compartment 102 to thesecond storage compartment 128 can be configured in a variety of locations such that the tool holster orholding slot 136 can hold a wide variety of different tools, such has hammers, pliers, wrenches, pry-bars, etc. - The
tool pouch 100 may also include one ormore tool sleeves 140 attached to thestorage compartment areas FIG. 1 depicts atool sleeve 140 connected to the secondlateral side panel 110. One of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that thetool sleeves 140 can be attached at different locations on the storage compartment and configured in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to house a wide variety of different tools or implements. - In conclusion, herein is presented a tool pouch configured to hold a variety of tools, devices, and other objects. Accordingly, the invention is embodied in the form shown in the various drawings. Numerous variations are possible while maintaining the spirit of the invention. Such variations are contemplated as being part of the present invention
