Abstract

Protective sheeting for protecting a work area includes a removable self sticking adhesive being positioned on the protective sheeting and formed into a strip and a perforation formed in the protective sheeting to reduce the size of the protective sheeting.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to protective sheeting and more particularly to protective sheeting having a removable self sticking adhesive.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • While performing chores or other activities, it is part of human nature that such activity can lead to disorder and mess of the environment around the activity, referred to as a work area. Consequently, a part of the activity or chore is the inevitable clean up of the work area. This is an especially true for food and liquids which seem to be prone to accidental spills and disorder which require a subsequent cleanup. In order to minimize the cleanup, various types of products had been used to provide a protective cover to be placed over the work area. One example is a paper towel to act as a protective cover for the work area. Not only does this protective cover aid in the cleanup of the work area, the protective cover protects the surface area that might be adversely affected by the spills and dirt. Adequate protection is difficult because of the differing sizes of the work area. If the protective sheeting does not cover the entire work area, the dirt may mar the exposed surface of the work area. Furthermore, the protective covering should not move from the work area while work is occurring. If the protective covering moves or slides then the work surface is exposed and the benefit of the protective cover is lost.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention provides a protective cover in the form of protective sheeting that will not move when placed on the work area. The protective sheeting of the present invention may be perforated so that the size of the protective sheeting can be matched with the intended work surface size. Additionally, the present invention includes removable self sticking glue or adhesive material so that the protective cover will not move when placed on the work area. The present invention can be in a form of a large roll, a small roll in a cutting box or a pad for easy distribution. The protective sheeting of the present invention includes perforations formed in the protective sheeting so that the protective sheeting can be sized to the needs of the user. The placement of the removable glue or removable adhesive is such that the protective cover when separated along the perforations formed in the protective sheeting so that each remaining section of the protective sheeting will include some area that include the removable glue or removable adhesive. The protective sheeting could be placed on vertical surfaces or on ceilings, under shelves as a result of the removable glue or removable adhesive. The removable glue or removable adhesive will not mar or harm the surface to which the removable glue or removable adhesive is placed.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • FIG. 1 shows a roll used to form protective sheeting 100 to cover a work area 110. The protective sheeting 100 includes removable self sticking adhesive or glue strips 102 which are positioned along the longitudinal edge of the protective sheeting 100. Both edges of the protective sheeting 100 have these removable adhesive or glue strips 102. In another embodiment, only one edge would have the removable adhesive or glue strips 102. In addition, a center removable adhesive or glue strip 104 is positioned in the approximate center of the protective sheeting 100 and in the longitudinal direction. The other side of the protective sheeting typically has no removable adhesive or glue strips to provide a surface for work. FIG. 2 shows the other side of protective sheeting 100 without the glue strips. As shown in FIG. 1, the protective sheeting 100 includes perforations 106 to allow the protective sheeting 100 to be reduced in width to be placed on the work area 110. The amount of reduction in width of the protective sheeting 100 depends on the perforation 106 chosen by the user to be separated. FIG. 1 shows three removable adhesive or glue strips and four lines of perforations. These numbers of strips and lines could be varied in order to offer the user differing sizes of protective sheeting 100. The placement of the removable adhesive or glue strips and perforations are such that if one perforation line is separated, both separated protective sheeting 100 include a removable adhesive or a glue strip. Typically, the work area 110 will vary in dimension in accordance with the needs of the user to cover the work area 110 which has dimensions x and y with the protective sheeting 100. In a typical situation, the protective sheeting 100 on the role is larger than the work area 110 and must be reduced in size to fit the work area 110. The user unrolls the protective sheeting 100 and cuts the protective sheeting 100 across the traversed direction to match one of the dimensions x or y. At this point, the protective sheeting 100 is the proper size for the work area 110 in one dimension for example the x dimension. Next, the protective sheeting 100 is separated along one of the perforated lines 106 that will leave a portion of the original protective sheeting 100 with a dimension that closely matches dimension y of the work area 110. As discussed above, the portion of the protective sheeting 100 formed by the separation of the perforation lines 106 includes a portion of the glue strip either the edge removable adhesive or glue strip 102 or the center removable adhesive or glue strip 104. The presence of the removable adhesive or glue strip assures that when the portion of the protective sheeting 100 is placed on the work area 110, that portion of the protective sheeting 100 will be held in place on the work area 110. The result of placement of the protective sheeting 100 on the work area 110 is shown in FIG. 7. FIG. 7 shows the portion of the protective sheeting 100 in phantom line. The side of the protective sheeting 100 with the glue strips is placed against the work area 110 so that the removable adhesive or glue strip holds the protective sheeting 100 on the work area 110. The work area 110 could be sloped or vertical and the protective sheeting 100 should not fall off the work area 110.
  • The protective sheeting 100 is available in varying colors, patterns, print finishes, and scents. The protective sheeting 100 could be formed from the applicable material for particular situation for example plain paper, absorbent paper, wax paper, parchment paper, butcher paper, Kraft paper, aluminum foil, layered papers and foils etc. The protective sheet 100 could include a reflective surface so that the protective sheet 100 could be used as a mirror or used around an actual mirror.
  • FIG. 3 shows dispensing container 304 for retaining the protective sheeting 100 and dispensing the protective sheeting 100. The dispensing container 304 includes a lid 302 which is movable to open and close the dispensing container 304. The lid 302 includes a cutting edge 306 which may be sufficiently sharp to cut the protective sheeting 100 as it is dispensed from the dispensing container 302. This allows the user to select the longitudinal length of the protective sheeting 100 desired. Normally, the user would select the longitudinal length to be the same as one dimension of the work area 110. The other dimension of the work area 110 is selected as described above by choosing the perforation 106 which will provide the protective sheeting 100 with the appropriate dimension.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates a perspective view of the dispensing container 304.
  • FIG. 6 shows a detailed illustration of the perforations on the protective sheeting 100.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates larger protective sheeting 100 in a roll. The roll is mounted on casters 402 so that the larger protective sheeting 100 can be easily moved around and dispensed near the work area 110.

Claims (13)

1) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area, comprising:
an adhesive being positioned on said protective sheeting and formed into a strip;
a perforation formed in said protective sheeting to reduce the size of said protective sheeting.
2) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said adhesive is a removable.
3) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said adhesive is formed into said strip along the edge of said protective sheeting.
4) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said adhesive is formed into said strip along an approximate middle of said protective sheeting.
5) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said perforation is positioned so that when separated each remaining section of protective sheeting includes a portion of said adhesive strip.
6) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said perforation are formed into lines between said adhesive strip.
7) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area, comprising the step of:
forming an adhesive being positioned on said protective sheeting and being formed into a strip;
forming a perforation formed in said protective sheeting to reduce the size of said protective sheeting.
8) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 7 wherein said adhesive is a removable.
9) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 7 wherein said step of forming said adhesive includes forming said adhesive into said strip along the edge of said protective sheeting.
10) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 7 wherein said step of forming said adhesive includes forming said adhesive into said strip along an approximate middle of said protective sheeting.
11) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 7 wherein said perforation is formed so that when separated each remaining section of protective sheeting includes a portion of said adhesive strip.
14) A method for forming protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 7 wherein said perforation are formed into lines between said adhesive strip.
15) Protective sheeting for protecting a work area as in claim 1 wherein said protective sheeting includes a reflective surface.
