Abstract
A container holding device is provided and includes a device structure, wherein the device structure includes a first structure side portion associated with a second structure side portion to define a structure cavity for supportingly containing a container, wherein the first structure side portion and the second structure side portion further define a structure opening communicated with the structure cavity to allow the container to be moved into and out of the structure cavity.
Description
- This disclosure relates generally to a device for holding a container, and more particularly to a device for holding a bag.
- For years people have been using bags to collect and store such things as garbage, leaves, grass, and other assorted waste. These bags have been made of paper, plastic, burlap, and composite materials, and are used both for outdoor uses such as yard work, and indoor uses such as garbage collection and disposal. While bags are good for collection and storage of all types of materials, they can be difficult to handle in that they must typically be supported. This can be accomplished via a two person operation, wherein one person holds a bag open and the other gathers material and places it in the held open bag. The draw back here is the necessity for two people, and thus devices have been created which are designed to hold bags open and in place.
- One such device is a garbage can which is well known and in use in applications involving bags which must be held open and in place. Garbage cans are effective at holding open large plastic bags in that the top of a plastic bag can be folded down around the lid or opening of the garbage can, allowing the bag to stay in place. Unfortunately however, several problems exist with these devices. First, because paper bags are less pliable than plastic bags they do not fold down around a garbage can lid as easily as do plastic bags. Additionally, paper does not conform to the shape of a garbage can the way plastic does, making it susceptible to tearing and thus more difficult to keep in place without a garbage can of similar size. Second, with rising environmental consciousness, paper has become more prevalent as the bag material of choice (due to paper's biodegradability), and as such, paper bags are in demand. Third, even when plastic can be used, a full plastic bag must be lifted up and out of a can. Due to suction within the can, as well as the sheer weight of a full bag (plastic, paper, or burlap) this lifting can be an arduous and possibly injury producing necessity. Fourth, large garbage cans take up a substantial area, making storage unsightly, and possibly costly (if numerous large cans must be stored, storage area must be purchased), and inconvenient. Fifth, during indoor bagging applications it can be difficult to match a paper or burlap type bag to a typical kitchen garbage container. Thus, plastic garbage bags are usually bought and used (again for their pliability). Unfortunately, it is inconvenient to use paper or burlap bags (or even plastic grocery bags) in this type of application because of size, cost, and pliability constraints. Paper bags would not only be more environmentally responsible, but more cost effective as they can be recycled from other uses (i.e. grocery bags).
- A container holding device is provided and includes a device structure, wherein the device structure includes a first structure side portion associated with a second structure side portion to define a structure cavity for supportingly containing a container, wherein the first structure side portion and the second structure side portion further define a structure opening communicated with the structure cavity to allow the container to be moved into and out of the structure cavity.
- The foregoing and other features and advantages of the present invention should be more fully understood from the following detailed description of illustrative embodiments taken in conjunction with the accompanying Figures in which like elements are numbered alike in the several Figures:

FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 a first embodiment of abag holding device 100 is illustrated and includesbag holding structure 102 defining abag cavity 104 including at least onebag opening 106, wherein the at least onebag opening 106 is communicated with thebag cavity 104 to allow abag 108 to be moved into and out of thebag cavity 104. Thebag 108 can be moved into and out of thebag cavity 104 through at least one opening 106 and may be accomplished with a minimal amount of actual lifting of thebag 108.Bags 108, which can be used in conjunction with abag holding structure 102, may include any type ofbag 108 suitable to the desired end purpose, such as a plastic leaf bag, a kitchen garbage bag, a paper leaf bag, a paper grocery bag, an empty pellet stove pellet bag, a burlap bag, and a composite material bag. - The
bag holding structure 102 may also include at least onewheel 110 for locomotion, as illustrated inFIG. 4 . The at least onewheel 110 attaches to thebag holding structure 102 in a manner that allows rolling of thebag holding structure 102 on at least onewheel 110 when thebag holding structure 102 is tilted toward the at least onewheel 110. In this way thebag holding device 102 and thebag 108 held by thebag holding device 102 may be easily moved about a garage, yard or kitchen. Thebag holding devices 102 may also include a gripping device, such as ahandle 138 to aid in movement and tilting. While a two wheel configuration is illustrated inFIG. 4 , abag holding structure 102 may also include any number of wheels which may not necessarily have to be used in conjunction with tilting. Thebag holding structure 102 may rest upon more than one wheel spaced and sized to continuously maintain the weight and stability of thebad holding device 102. Additionally, the at least one wheel may slide down from the side of thebag holding device 102, extend from inside thebag holding device 102 and/or flip out from the bottom of thebag holding device 102 to allow for convenient mobility with or without tilting of thebag holding device 102. - Referring to
FIG. 5 , thebag cavity 104 of thebag holding structure 102 may also include a bag cavity top opening 114, wherein amoveable cover 112 may associate with thebag holding structure 102 to cover the bag cavity top opening 114 and thebag 108. This allows thebag 108 and its contents to be covered when the bag is not being filled allowing for thebag 108 to be protected from the elements and/or helping to contain bag contents (and their possible odors) within thebag 108. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , thebag holding structure 102 is illustrated and includes afirst side 118 associated with asecond side 120 via abase 122 and aback structure 124 to define abag cavity 104 including at least onebag opening 106, wherein the at least onebag opening 106 is communicated with thebag cavity 104 to allow thebag 108 to be moved into and out of thebag cavity 104. As illustrated inFIG. 7 , thefirst side 118,second side 120,base 122, and back structure may be detachable from each other, either individually or collectively. - As shown in
FIG. 8 , it is contemplated that attachingdevices 116 may be used to supportingly attach thebag 108 to thebag holding device 100. These attachingdevices 116 may be connected to or separate from thebag holding device 100, and may include any number and/or type of attachingdevices 116 suitable to the desired end purpose, such as clips, hooks, and handles.
