Abstract
The “Lil Scratchy” is a light weight plastic tool that easily attaches to the head of a standard 24″ broom. The primary function of the “Lil Scratchy” is to dislodge stubborn debris encountered while sweeping unfinished floors. Simply by turning the broom over (180°), the broom acts as a scraper. It can then be flipped back over (180°) and sweeping is resumed. The concept is to save time in prepping or cleaning unfinished floor surfaces.
Description
- The “lil scratchy” is a single piece of plastic, roughly 22.5″×3.25″×0.25″ in size. On one ide of this rectangle object, 1″ is bent to angle of 50°. (
FIG. 1 ) - The 1″ section is also tapered down on each comer 0.5″. The larger 3.25″ side of the plastic has fourteen 0.20″ holes, two 0.25″ holes and a 0.63″ radius centered in the middle of the opposite side on the 1″ edge. (
FIG. 2 ) - The installation of the “lil scratchy” is as follows:
-
-
- 1. Take one 24″ standard push broom that must have a squared off broom head. Rounded broom heads will not properly support the “lil scratchy”. (
FIG. 3 ) - 2. Check to determine if the broom has bracing rods from the stick to the broom head. If so, remove the screws that connect the rods to the broom head. (
FIG. 4 ) - 3. Take the “lil scratchy” and place the larger side (3.25″) on top of the broom head with the 1″ angle pointing towards the bristle side of the head. Align the half circle cut out with the broom stick attached to the head. If the broom has bracing rods insert “lil scratchy” in-between the rods and the broom head and align accordingly. NOTE: The angle edge should be evenly parallel with the edge of the broom head. (
FIG. 5 ) - 4. After alignment begin using pan head screws to attach the plastic to the broom head. Bracing rods should align with the two 0.25″ holes allotted. If not, use the self tapping 0.25″ screws provided. Once the support rods (if applicable) are attached, then use the 0.75″ pan head screws and begin screwing down “lil scratchy” in the pre-drilled 0.20″ pattern. (CAUTION—Over tightening the screws may strip out the attachment strength needed for scraping. (
FIG. 6 )
- 1. Take one 24″ standard push broom that must have a squared off broom head. Rounded broom heads will not properly support the “lil scratchy”. (
Claims (1)
- The “Lil Scratchy” with its unique 50° angle is the only tool designed to be attached to a standard 24″ push broom for use in scraping debris off of unfinished surfaces that bristles can not remove.
