Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oEEioE.
ASA JOHNSON, OF CAIRO, NEW YORK.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Speccation of Letters Patent No. 20,069, dated April 27, 14858.
To all whom 'it may concern.
Be it known that I, ASA JOHNSON, of Cairo, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact descr1ption of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in forming asupporter for ladies hose of hair cloth or any other equivalent texture whereby I can at the same time support the hose and give form to the limb as will be herein after described.
In order that those skilled in the art may use and manufacture my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings which make a part of this specification Figure l is a side elevation of a stocking a'nd the supporter, the supporter being seen in dotted lines at its bottom and sides and in full line at top. Fig. 2, shows the form of the cloth before being sewed up for use.
In Figs. l and 2, those parts marked (A) represent pieces of elastic inserted in the material on the front in order to allow the supporter to stretch and give room for the foot as it passes through and make it fit snugly at the ankle and above the call:l of the leg, when on.
In the construction of this invention I use hair cloth or its equivalent. I cut the cloth in making them in such a manner that the seam comes on the back of the leg; thus I am enabled to make it the proper shape, the hair running around the leg which keeps the hose out and in proper form. The back part runs down to the bottom of the heel; the front part being hollowed out as seen in the drawing to make room for the foot and instep and by putting in a slip of elastic cloth at the top and bottom of the front as shown in the drawings at (A) it is easily drawn on and may be made to lit close to the leg at these points if desired. In making the supporter it may be woven in the desired shape or the hair may be woven in with the stocking.
It will readily be seen that I may give the supporter any desired form and as the stiff material holds the stocking out from the leg the leg will have the appearance of being in the form of the supporter.
I design this a new article of manufacture and I design making the articles of various sizes and shapes, to be worn by children as well as adults. It will be very beneficial for children as well as adults in cold weather as an additional protection from the weather. It is usual to wear nothing but a thin stock ing on the leg in cold as well as warm weather, as by heavy articles the limb is disfigured. This gives symmetry and beautilies and adorns the limb.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- I claim the hose supporter or its equivalent for the purpose of supporting the hose,
and giving form to the limb, in the manner herein specified and set forth.
