Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved woman's stocking/stay up/thigh high stockings that has a utilitarian pocket, sewn, knitted or attached at the time of manufacturing, lasting the life of the stockings. The improved stocking with pocket can carry personal items, such as but not limited to condoms, monies, a single key, Identification, etc. It will not only cover the wearer's legs, but also provide the benefit of concealing and carrying personal items until their time of use. In cases where the stocking is made with a pocket which will carry prophylactic articles, the stocking will add the benefit of easy retrieval of said prophylactic item, thus promoting the practice of safe sex. The attached pocket can be made of any material and range in size and location. While the invention has been described in particular reference to the preferred embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes may be made and equivalents maybe substituted for elements of the preferred embodiments without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention.
Description
- This invention pertains to an improved stocking/stay ups/thigh high stockings with pocket attached for carrying personal items. For years tubular knitted stockings made of a variety of nylon type materials, have existed in many styles, mostly concentrating on covering the legs, support and style, but none employing the utilitarian use of a pocket for various purposes. U.S. Pat. No. 2,918,679 issued to Henry G. Bell on Dec. 29, 1959, describes stockings with elastic support. U.S. Pat. No. 3,122,906 issued to Herman E Crawford on Mar. 3, 1964 describes self supporting hosiery which includes inward extending loops and U.S. Pat. No. 3,566,411 issued to Gordon on Mar. 2, 1971, shows pantyhose, combined with a panty garment which employs garter loops to stay in place. All of which concentrate on supporting the leg but not stockings/thigh high stockings utilizing a pocket.
- There has also been prior art showing various self applied pockets, attached with Velcro and hooks, which could snag or compromise a stocking, and be irritating or painful when worn against the skin. U.S. Pat. No. 4,899,395 issued to Spector on Feb. 13, 1990, describes a disposable one time use pocket made of paper, attached to the clothing by the user him or herself, for concealing a small item. Although economical to produce the past art made of paper and applied with an adhesive, may tear, loose integrity or fall away for the article which attached, if the users perspires or a sharp, rigid item such as a credit card is carried in it. In cases where the pocket is made of foil like paper, it would be very uncomfortable against the skin.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,794,769 issued to Tomlinson, on Aug. 18, 1998, describes a personal and easily accessible carrier for a condom. The carrier comprises a flexible loop having a liquid impermeable pocket for carrying condoms, although interesting this looped condom carrier, is not very practical nor an item one could incorporate into their everyday wardrobe. It is not a stocking but a flexible loop, containing an U shaped wire frame, garter like article that serves only the purpose of carrying condoms and would create bulking on the leg when worn with pants and may protrude the stiletto of ones dress fit.
- The present invention relates to an improved woman's stocking/stay up/thigh high stockings that utilizes a pocket for carrying personal items, such as but not limited to condoms, monies a single key, Identification, etc. The pocket can be made of any material including but not limited to the same material as the stocking it's self. Location of the pocket could vary according to desire/design, the ideal location being the upper ribbing/top portion of the stocking, were the pocket maybe sewn or knitted or glued attached at time of manufacturing. For individuals desiring discretion the pocket may be located inside the stocking, making its presence not so obvious, (an illustration can be found in
FIG. 1 ). For others, not seeking discretion and preferring the pocket for aesthetic appeal the pocket maybe be prominently displayed on the outer circumference of the top portion/ribbing of the stocking (illustration can be found onFIG. 2 ). - With the increased use of stockings, the primary goal of the present invention is to provide a stocking/thigh high leg ware that not only covers the leg but also provide the benefit of a utilitarian pocket.
- Another goal is to provide a pocket on the stocking which will allow its wearer to discreetly conceal or carry personal items on their person. A further object of the present invention is to provide a method for carrying prophylactics in a discreet manner, thus promoting safe sex. A further object of the invention is providing a method for easy retrieval of prophylactics at their time of use, again aiding in the practice of safe sex. With the steady presence of incurable and deadly STD's a stocking providing a pocket which would keep prophylactic articles in close proximity, would make the transformation from foreplay to actual coitus easier, thus providing a method to promote the practice of safe sex. Whether the pocket is discreetly located inside the hose or prominently displayed on the outer circumference of the stocking.
