Abstract

A holding device includes a U-shaped base fixed on a wall and including a first protrusion and a second protrusion. A receiving space is defined between the two protrusions. The first protrusion has a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member is eccentrically received in the first protrusion and a part of the clamping member is movably extended through the hole and protrudes into the receiving space. A shank of a tool is received in the receiving space and clamped by the clamping member and the second protrusion.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a holding device using an eccentric clamping member to clamp a tubular item between protrusions.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • A conventional holding device for holding shanks of tools generally includes a base with two protrusions and the shank is held between the two protrusions. Each protrusion includes a rack which is installed to an inside of the protrusion inclinedly and a clamping member having a toothed outer periphery is movably engaged with the rack such that the shank can be clamped by the clamping member. The structure is complicated and involves rack and toothed clamping member, both of which have to be made by specific machine and this makes the holding device be expensive which is not competitive in the market.
  • The present invention intends to provide a holding device having simple structure and able to hold shanks of tools of different sizes.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a holding device which comprises a U-shaped base with a first protrusion and a second protrusion and a receiving space is defined between the protrusions. The first protrusion has a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member is longitudinally received in the first protrusion. The clamping member has an eccentric shaft which has one end connected to the first protrusion and the other end of the eccentric shaft is connected with a torsion spring. The clamping member has a part movably extending through the hole and protrudes into the receiving space.
  • The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

  • FIGS. 8 and 9 show that the steps for hanging the holding device on a wall;
  • FIG. 10 shows the number of clamping members of the holding device can be multiple, and
  • FIG. 11 shows yet another embodiment for connecting the holding device on a wall.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the holding device “A” of the present invention comprises a U-shaped base 10 with a first protrusion and a second protrusion 110 extending from a front end thereof and the rear end of the base 10 is an open end. A receiving space 12 is defined between the protrusions 11 and 110 so as to clamp a shank therein as shown in FIG. 5. The first protrusion 11 has a hole 13 defined in an inside thereof and a connection tube 15 extends from an inner end of the first protrusion 11. A clamping member 20 is longitudinally received in the first protrusion 11 and has an eccentric shaft 21 which has a first end connected to the connection tube 15 in the first protrusion 11 and a second end of the eccentric shaft 21 is connected with a torsion spring 30. A projection 23 extends from the eccentric shaft 21 and a hook member 16 is connected on a transverse board located at the rear end of the base 10. One end of the torsion spring 30 is hooked to the hook member 16 and the other end of the torsion spring 30 engaged with the projection 23, such that the clamping member 20 is maintained in a position where a part of the clamping member 20 movably extends through the hole 13 and protrudes into the receiving space 12. The clamping member 20 has a friction band 22 such as a rubber band, wrapped thereto and A plurality of friction strips 14 extend from an inside of the second protrusion 110, so that the shank can be clamped by the friction band 22 and the friction strips 14.
  • As shown in FIG. 6, a back board 43 is fixed on a wall by screws 44 and two threaded reception tubes 45 extend from the back board 43. Two guide tubes 41 extend from the transverse board so that two bolts (only one is shown) extends through the guide tubes 41 and are connected with the reception tubes 45. By this way, the base 10 is fixed on the wall.
  • As shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, the shank of a tool is inserted in the receiving space 12 from a lower position and the movement of the shank pushes the clamping member 20 into the hole 13 and the shank is released, the friction of the friction band 22 and the friction strips 14 can hold the shank as shown in FIG. 5.
  • As shown in FIGS. 7 to 9, another embodiment for connecting the base 10 on a wall comprises two connection plates 46 connected to two guide tubes 41 and two reception frames 47 are fixed on a wall. Each reception frame 47 has a U-shaped receiving space comprising two side grooves 471 and an end wall 472 between the two side grooves 471 so that one of the two connection plates 46 is engaged with the U-shaped receiving space.
  • FIG. 10 shows that the base may include multiple protrusions and clamping members 20 so as to hold multiple shanks of tools.
  • FIG. 11 shows yet another embodiment of the present invention wherein the eccentric shaft 21 includes a longitudinal slot 23 such that one end of the torsion spring 30 is engaged with the slot 23 and the other end of the torsion spring 30 is hooked to the hook member 16 on the transverse board located at a rear end of the base 10. A peripheral wall 17 extends from the transverse eccentric shaft 21 so that the second end of the eccentric shaft 21 of the clamping member 20 is enclosed by the peripheral wall 17. A cover 50 is connected to the peripheral wall 17 so as to prevent foreign objects from entering the space enclosed by the peripheral wall 17. The peripheral wall 17 includes a recess 18 defined in an inside thereof and the cover 50 includes a protrusion which is engaged with the recess 18.
  • While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (9)

1. A holding device comprising:
a U-shaped base with a first protrusion and a second protrusion and a receiving space defined between the protrusions, the first protrusion having a hole defined in an inside thereof and a clamping member longitudinally received in the first protrusion, the clamping member having an eccentric shaft which has a first end connected to the first protrusion and a second end of the eccentric shaft connected with a torsion spring, the clamping member having a part movably extending through the hole and protruding into the receiving space.
2. The holding device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the clamping member has a friction band wrapped thereto.
3. The holding device as claimed in claim 1, wherein a plurality of friction strips extend from an inside of the second protrusion.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base includes a hook member on a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, a projection extending from the eccentric shaft, one end of the torsion spring hooked to the hook member 16 and the other end of the torsion spring engaged with the projection.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a back board which is adapted to be fixed on a wall and two threaded reception tubes extending from the back board, two guide tubes extending from a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, two bolts extending through the guide tubes and connected with the reception tubes.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1 further comprising two connection plates connected to two guide tubes extending from a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, two reception frames adapted to be fixed on a wall and each having U-shaped receiving space in which respective one of the two connection plates is engaged.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the eccentric shaft includes a longitudinal slot and one end of the torsion spring is engaged with the slot, a hook member is connected on a transverse board located at a rear end of the base, the other end of the torsion spring hooked to the hook member.

The holding device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base includes a transverse board located at a rear end thereof and a peripheral wall extends from the transverse eccentric shaft, the second end of the eccentric shaft of the clamping member is enclosed by the peripheral wall, a cover connected to the peripheral wall so as to prevent foreign objects from entering the space enclosed by the peripheral wall.
9. The holding device as claimed in claim 8, wherein the peripheral wall includes a recess defined in an inside thereof and the cover includes a protrusion which is engaged with the recess.
