Description
R. G. BEAGLE ADJUSTABLE FLOWER HOLDER Filed Sept. 5, 1954 June 25, 1935.
Patented June 25, 1935 UNITED STATES OFFICE This invention relates to improvements in flower holders. l
The general object of this invention is to provide an improved flower holder which is. adjustable so that the device may be arrangeddn, a
plurality of different shapes whereby itis adapted for use with flowers of various sizes and with stems of different lengths.
A further object of my invention is to provide a flower holder including a weighted base member and a plurality of interengaging members mounted on the base and movable, from one adjusted position to another adjusted position.
Another object of my invention is to provide a flower holder including a base having a plurality of wire members hinged thereto and a top portion including a plurality of wire members hinged to the lower portion.
Other objects and the advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a central vertical section through my improved flower holder.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the flower holder.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the holder.
Fig. 4, Fig. 5, Fig. 6, are outline diagrams showing the holder formed to different shapes.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary detail of the wire ring connection and Fig. 8 is an enlarged fragmentary detail of one of the supporting parts.
Referring to the drawing by reference charaoters I have indicated my improved flower holder generally at l0. As shown, the device l0 comprises a base member I 2 and a body portion l3.
The body portion I3 includes bottom ring l4 and a top ring l5, each of which are formed from a length of wire which is bent circular with the ends thereof positioned in a metal sleeve member I1 which is placed over the wire and crimped as at l8 to secure the wire sleeve to the ring (see Fig. 1). The lower ring [4 preferably slightly greater in diameter than the upper ring l5.
Associated with the lower ring [4 I provide a plurality of substantially semi-circular wire members l9 which are hingedly secured to the ring I4 by bending the ends of the wire members around the ring I4 as indicated at 20. The wire members are arranged completely around the ring l4 and they preferably overlap as shown.
Associated with the upper ring I5 I provide a plurality of substantially semi-circular wire members 2| which are hingedly secured to the ring l5 by bending the ends of the wire members around thering. l5 as indicated at 22. The wire members 2], like thewire members I 9, are positioned completely around the ring [5 in overlapping relation.
- ,"I'he,wire members l8 and 2| are in vertical '5 alignment and are hingedly connected together by, a wrapping ofwire 23.
The body 43 includes a dome portion 24 which includes a plurality of substantially semi-circue larwiremembers 25which are hingedly secured tothe ringlli'by bending the, ends of the wire members aroundthe ring 15 asindicated at 2B. The wire members 25 are positioned completely around the ring [5 in overlapping relation and are inclined inwardly and upwardly. The dome further may include a grill work of spaced wire rods 2'! which are connected at some of their intersections by wire tie members 28. The ends of the rods 21 are secured to the wire members 25 by bending them around two of the wires 25 where they intersect as indicated at 29.
The base I2 is preferably made of lead and has an annular rabbet 30 in the bottom face thereof and a reduced aperture 3| which opens through the upper face. In the aperture 3| I provide a grill work which is formed by spaced bars 32 which are integral with the base.
Mounted in the base I2 and extending upwardly therefrom I provide a plurality of supporting posts 33 which are bent around the ring M to secure the body I3 to the base l2.
By providing the hinged connections at 20, 22 and 23 the body [3 of the holder may be formed into various shapes as clearly shown in Figs. 4, 5,and6. Thenatural resiliency of the wires is such that the holder remains in its adjusted position.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a novel flower holder which is simple in construction and highly eificient in use.
I claim:-
1. In a flower holder, a base, a body portion mounted on said base, said body portion including side portions and a top portion, said sides and top portion being formed to provide grill work, and means to mount said side portions to hinge.
2. In a flower holder, a base, an annular member secured to the base, a plurality of wire members having their ends secured to the annular member, a second annular member having a plurality of wire members with their ends secured thereto, and hinge means to hold said wire members in movable engagement.
3. In a flower holder, a base, an annular member secured to the base, a plurality of substantial- 1y semi-circular wire members having their ends secured to the annular member, a second annular member having a plurality of substantially semi-circular wire members with their ends secured thereto, and hinge means to hold said wire members in tangential engagement.
4. In a flower holder, a base, an annular metal member secured to the base, a plurality of substantially semi-circular wire members having their ends secured to the annularmetal member, a second annular metal member having a plurality of substantially semi-circular wire members with their ends secured thereto, hinge means to hold said wire members in tangential engagement and a cover member secured-to'the upper annular member. H
5. In a flower holder, a base, a body portion mounted on said base, said'body includin'ga lower ring member and an upper ring member spaced from said lower ring, a plurality of flexible wire members secured to said lower ring, and to said upper ring and a grill member supported by said upper ring.
6. In a flower holder, a base, a bodyportion mounted on said base, said body including a lower ring member and an upper ring member spaced from said lower ring, a plurality of semi-circular wire members having their ends hingedly secured tosaid lower ring, said wire members extending completely around said lower ring in overlapping relation, a plurality of semi-circular wire members having their ends hingedly secured to said upper ring, said second wire members extending completely around said upper ring in overlapping relation, means to hingedly secure said first and second wire members together, said body including a cover portion secured to said upper ring.
'7. In a flower holder, a base, a body portion, said base having an aperture therein, a grill work of spaced bars in said aperture, said body including a lower ring member and an upper ring member spaced above said lower ring, a plurality of semi-circular wire members having their ends hingedly secured to said lower ring, said wire members extending completely around said lower bers extending completely around said upper ring in overlapping relation, said first and second wire members being vertically aligned and being hingedly secured together, said body including a dome portion, said dome portion including a plurality of semi-circular wire members having their ends hingedlysecured to said upper ring, said third wire members being inclined inwardly and upwardly, said dome portion including a grill work of spaced wire rods positioned between the inner portion of said third wire members, the ends of said rods being secured to some of said third wire members, and a plurality of supporting parts on said base, said lower ring member being secured to said parts.
