Abstract

The invented device comprises a waist belt and six (or more) molded slide-on plastic snap hooks. The waist belt is composed of a buckle at one end and a latch at the other end and a belt of adjustable length. The molded slide-on plastic snap hooks are positioned evenly around the length of the belt with the snap closures facing out away from the wearer's body. The looped handles of plastic or other bags filled with groceries or other items can then be hooked into the snap hooks and carried hanging from the waist belt. Consequently the user can carry more items farther distances with hands unencumbered.

Description

  • The invented device comprises a waist belt and six hard-plastic snap hooks that slide onto and attach around the length of the belt with the snap hooks evenly spaced around the circumference of the waist belt.
  • With the belt around the waist and the snap hooks positioned around the belt to best distribute the anticipated weight, the user clips the loop handles of plastic “grocery” or other bags filled with groceries or other items into the individual snap hooks.
  • The weight of the items is then distributed to the legs rather than the arms allowing the user to carry more and/or heavier items farther distances with more comfort and leaves the user's arms and hands free.

    • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Shoppers, particularly those buying quantities of groceries, find themselves having to carry bag after bag between the house and car or public transportation. Often there is quite a distance to cover carrying heavy, cumbersome bags. Shoppers usually carry as many as they can, lining them up between wrist and elbow. And every time the shopper has to lock or unlock a gate or door or press an elevator button one arm load of bags has to be set down.
  • This invention will make carrying all those bags easier and more efficient. The bags will be hooked on snap-hooks that slide along the length of a moderately heavy-duty belt. Securely fastened around the users waist, the belt will distribute the bag weight to the legs allowing the user to carry more bags a longer distance more comfortably while leaving the users hands free.
    • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The general idea of this invention is to provide users a more effective means with which to carry numerous filled grocery or other bags between the car, the house, or elsewhere, thereby reducing the number of trips the user has to make while enhancing the user's capacity to carry loads while leaving hands free to, for example, unlock the door or direct children. The invention shifts the burden of the weight to the legs, which are, as a general rule, stronger than arms.
  • The invention provides users with a easy-to-use, low-tech solution to a problem everyone who shops and buys groceries or other items encounters.
  • The invention has other carrying uses as well. For example, a gardener can put items into a plastic or other bag with handles, hang the bag loop handles onto the belt, and carry the items around during garden tasks without encumbering the users hands.

  • The invention is comprised of a waist belt that is adjustable in size with a plastic buckle on one end and a buckle latch on the opposite end. The latch is removed from the waist belt and six molded plastic snap hooks are slid onto the belt with the snap closure facing outward from the wearer's body and the latch is replaced on the end of the waist belt.
  • The molded snap hooks are moved around the belt to distribute the weight of the bags to be carried.
  • The waist belt is secured around the wearer's waist with the buckle and latch and the bags are hooked onto the molded plastic snap hook(s).

Claims (2)

1. A waist belt apparatus for carrying filled plastic grocery or other bags by hooking the loop handles of filled plastic grocery or other bags onto the waist belt apparatus including:
A waist belt means adapted to be secured around the waist of the user and having two waist belt ends, plastic buckle means on said waist belt means for securing the waist belt ends together and for adjusting the length of the waist belt means;
Six (or more) molded plastic snap hook means being engaged with the waist belt means but free to slide throughout the length of the waist belt means;
2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:
Said belt means is made of sturdy woven fiber or other appropriate material.
