SHOE FORM Filed July 10. 1934 Patented June 11, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOE FORM William J. De Witt, Auburn,
N. Y., assignor to.
Shoe Form 00., Inc., Auburn, N. Y., a corpora tion of New York Application July 10, 1934, Serial No. 734,480
4 Claims.
.vide a toe form having flanged side walls, a cross brace connected to the side walls of the form and movable with the cross brace being secured at one end to one end of the cross brace having a prong at the other end and bearing intermediate its length against the cross brace midway between the side Wa s. l
Other objects of this invention reside in the manner in which the wire and cross brace are connected, thus in one embodiment the Wire and cross brace are integral, and in other embodiments the wire and cross brace areconnected by a cross brace which also connects the cross brace to a flanged side wall of the form.
Further objects of this invention will appear from a consideration of the following description and of the drawing which forms a partthereof and in which Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view and Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views taken along the lines 2-2 and 3-3 on Fig. 1 of one embodiment of this invention;
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are similar views of another embodiment, the sections shown in Figs. 5 and 6 being taken along the lines 5-5 and 6-6 on Fig. 4; and
Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are similar views of still another embodiment, the section shown in Figs. 8 and 9 being taken along the lines 8-8 and 9-9 on Fig. 7.
Each embodiment of this invention comprises a toe form having flanged side Walls of inherently resilient material l and II connected by a cross brace l2 attached tothe side walls by rivets l3 and M. The rivet i3 is received in a slot I formed in the flanged side wall H! which permits a pivotal movement of the cross brace I2 to expand or contract the form in the usual Well known manner. The embodiments disclosed in the drawing difier from each other in the form of the prong wire and the way in which it is secured to the cross brace 12.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1,2 and 3 the prong wire 20 is an integral extension of the cross brace I2 at the end pivoted to the wall H by the rivet [4. The wire 20 extends forwardly from the rivet M, then backwardly under the cross brace, is curved upwardly and downwardly to form relative thereto and a wire movable a loop 2| andterminates inapointed tip 22.
The wire 20 being a part of the cross brace l5 obviously moves in unison with the crossbrace. The operator by inserting a finger or tool in the loop 2] raises the tip 22 out of contact with 5 the inner sole of the shoe, swings the cross brace forward or backward as desired, and withdraws the contracted form from the shoe.
The prong wire 36 of the embodiment shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 is looped around the shank of the rivet l4. From the rivet it it is led forward andthen backward over the cross brace, bent forward laterally and backward under the cross brace, curved upwardly and downwardly to form a loop 3| and terminates in a pointed tip 32. The wire as it is bent about the cross brace forms a pocket 33 which receives the cross brace midway between the side walls and yieldably holds it therein. The loop 3| may be used in the same manner as the loop 2| to raise the tip and actuate the cross brace. Since the cross brace is yieldably. held in the pocket 33 the prong wire will be moved thereby.
Figs. '7, 8 and 9 illustrate another embodiment of the invention which includes a prong wire 40 looped around the rivet [3. The wire 40 extends parallel to the cross brace I2, is coiled around it, bent upwardly and downwardly to form a loop 4| and terminates in a pointed tip 42. The coils 43 surround the cross brace midway between the side walls and insure that the wire and cross brace move as a unit. The loop 4| may be used, in the same manner as the loop 2| of the embodiment first described, to raise the tip 42, actuate the cross brace; I2 and withdraw the form from the shoe.
From the above description of the various em- 7 bodiments it will be noted that in each the prong wire is movable with and by the cross brace, and
is yieldably held thereby with its tip in engage- 4.0 ment with the inner sole of a shoe. Furthermore the prong wire of each embodiment includes a loop behind the cross brace by which the tip is raised, the cross brace is actuated and the form may be withdrawn from the shoe.
While certain embodiments of the invention have been shown and described it will be understood that I am not limited thereto and that other embodiments may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
I claim:
1. A toe form comprising flanged side walls of inherently resilient material, a cross brace spanning said sidewalls and movable relative thereto and means connected to said cross brace at one end thereof and movable thereby, said means terminating in a pointed tip and being in engagement with a portion of the cross brace between the side walls whereby when the form is inserted in a shoe the tip is held by the cross brace in engagement with the inner sole thereof to resist the removal of the form from the shoe.
2. A toe form comprising flanged side walls of inherently resilient material, a cross brace spanning said side walls and movable relative thereto and means connected to said cross brace at one end thereof and movable thereby, said means terminating in a pointed tip which when the form is inserted in a shoe engages the inner sole thereof and resists the removal of the form from the shoe and includes a portion which extends under the cross brace whereby the latter yieldably holds said means in contact with the inner sole.
3. A toe form comprising flanged side walls of inherently resilient material, a cross brace spanning said side walls and movable relative there- 'to, rivets connecting the ends of said cross brace to the flanged side walls, and a wire, of which one end is fixed by one of said rivets to a flanged side wall, and the other end forms a prong, said wire being connected intermediate its ends to the cross brace midway between the side walls whereby said prong when the form is inserted in a shoe, is held by the cross brace in contact with the inner sole thereof and resists the removal of the form from the shoe.
4. A toe form comprising flanged side walls of inherently resilient material, a cross brace spanning said side walls and movable relative thereto, rivets connecting the ends of said cross brace t0 the flanged side walls, and a wire, of which one end is fixed by one of said rivets to a flanged side wall, and the other end forms a prong, said wire being removably connected intermediate its ends to the cross brace midway between the side walls whereby said prong when the form is inserted in a shoe, is held by the cross brace in contact with the inner sole thereof and resists the removal of the form from the shoe.
