Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • This invention relates to educational games and, more specifically, to an educational game which children will enjoy playing, thereby keeping the child's attention and helping the child learn. [0002]
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art [0003]
  • Many children have a difficult time learning in school. These children do not have any learning disabilities. Instead, many of these children just have a difficult time with the methodology used in the schools today. For example, in a Spelling class, the teacher will generally give out a list of words. The students are asked to memorize the words. A test is given several days later. [0004]
  • In order for some types of children to learn, learning needs to be a fun activity. The fun activity will help keep the child's attention thereby helping the child to learn. For example, addition and subtraction can be more easily learned by most children by using objects. Objects can be added or removed to help the child better understand addition and subtraction. [0005]
  • Therefore, a need existed to provide an improved educational game to help children learn. The improved educational game must be fun for children to play in order to keep the child's attention thereby helping the child to learn. [0006]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved educational game to help children learn. [0007]
  • It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved educational game that is fun for children to play thereby keeping the child's attention and thus helping the child to learn. [0008]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention an educational learning game is disclosed. The educational learning game has a learning sheet where the information to be learned is entered. A cover is provided for hiding the learning sheet. A pair of dice are provided to designate what information on the learning sheet is to be answered by a participant. [0009]
  • In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, a method of playing an educational game is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: providing a learning sheet having a plurality of rows and columns wherein information to be learned is entered in black spaces formed by the rows and columns; providing a cover for hiding the learning sheet; providing a pair of dice for indicating which information on the learning sheet is to be answered by a participant; determining a player to go first; and rolling the dice by the player to go first, indica on the dice indicating information on the learning sheet the player to go first has to answer. [0010]
  • The foregoing and other objects, features, and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following, more particular, description of the preferred embodiments of the invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.[0011]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an elevated perspective view of the folder and spelling card used in the present invention. [0012]
  • FIG. 2 is an elevated perspective view of a pair of dice used in the present invention. [0013]
  • FIG. 3 is a front view of the spelling card used in the present invention. [0014]
  • FIG. 4 is a front view of the spelling card of FIG. 3 filled in with the words to be spelled. [0015]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to the Figures, an [0016] educational game 10 is shown. The educational game 10 will be fun for children to play thereby keeping the child's attention. By keeping the child's attention, the child will be more interested in learning and thus will be better able to learn the material.
  • The [0017] educational game 10 may be able to be used to teach a variety of different educational areas (i.e., spelling, geography, languages, mathematics, etc.). For the present description, the educational game will be described for helping students learn how to spell. However, this should not be sen as to limit the scope of the present invention.
  • The [0018] educational game 10 is comprised of a learning sheet 12. The learning sheet 12 will be divided into a plurality of rows and columns. In the present invention as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the learning sheet is divided into six columns and six rows. Each of the rows and columns are then numbered from 1-6. Located above the plurality of columns is a color corresponding to one of a pair of dice 14. A color of the other dice 14 is labeled next to the plurality of rows.
  • The rows and columns in the [0019] learning sheet 10 define spaces 16. The spaces 16 in the learning sheet 10 are where the items that are to be learned are placed. For example, as seen in FIG. 4, the spelling words which need to be learned are placed in the spaces 14. For a foreign language, the English word would be printed with the foreign equivalent word below the English word. The learning sheet 10 is then placed inside a cover 18. The cover 18 is used to hide the learning sheet during the game.
  • Each player in the game will have a [0020] learning sheet 12 and a cover 18. Each person is given a defined amount of time to review the information on the learning sheet 10 before the start of the game. When playing the educational game 10, each player will roll one of the dice 14. The person who rolls the highest number will be the first to play.
  • Once the game begins, the person rolling the [0021] dice 14 will shut the cover 18 so that he/she cannot see the learning sheet 10. The other player is allowed to keep the cover 18 open so that he/she can see the learning sheet 12 but the person rolling cannot see the learning sheet 12. The first player rolls the dice 14. Each dice will be a different color. In the embodiment depicted in the Figures, the number of the red dice is the number horizontally on the learning sheet 12. The number on the black die is the number on the vertical section of the learning form 12. In the alternative, instead of dice, sets of cards may be used wherein the cards would have numbers relating to the different horizontal and vertical spaces. The word to be spelled by the first player is located at the intersection of the two numbers that are rolled on the dice 14 or picked by drawing cards. The word should be pronounced by the second player. The word may even be used in a sentence if the first player so desires. The first player will then pronounce the word, spells the word, and then pronounces it again. Thus, the game is similar to a spelling bee. If the word is spelled correctly, then the correctly spelled word is marked on the learning sheet as being correct. Once a word has been spelled correctly, the word is removed from both list. The first player will then roll the dice 14 again. If the word is misspelled, the second player closes the cover 18 and the first player will open the cover 18. The second player rolls the dice and the above rules apply. When all the words have been correctly spelled, the number of words that each player correctly spelled are added up. The winner is the player who has spelled the most words correctly.
  • While the invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the foregoing and other changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
