Abstract

A golf club cover having a cover element with a configuration corresponding generally to the configuration of the head and a portion of the shaft of the golf club. The cover element contains a keyhole shaped entrance aperture of sufficient size to accept the golf head and a portion of the golf club shaft.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • The present application relates to Provisional Application Serial No. 60/324,902 filed Sep. 27, 2001 by David S. Noyes.[0001]
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to the sport of golf and, more particularly to covers for golf clubs. It is desirable to protect at least the head of the golf club and, at times a portion of the golf club shaft during a round of golf. The same is true during transportation to and from the golf course as well as during storage of the golf clubs in a golf bag. The art reflects a variety of golf club covers and is well cataloged in Int. Class 206/315.2. [0002]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • A golf club cover has a cover element with a configuration corresponding generally to the configuration of the head and shaft of a golf club. The cover element contains a keyhole shaped entrance aperture of sufficient size to accept the golf club head and a portion of the golf club shaft.[0003]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cover element with a keyhole shaped entrance aperture for a golf club head and a portion of its shaft; [0004]
  • FIG. 2 is a view in front elevation of the cover element with a keyhole shaped entrance aperture of FIG. 1; [0005]
  • FIG. 3 is a diagrammatic view of the cover element of FIG. 2 in side elevation and section taken along lines [0006] 3-3 in FIG. 2 showing a golf club head and shaft positioned for insertion into the golf club cover;
  • FIG. 4 is a diagrammatic view of the club cover element with a flexible flip down cover; [0007]
  • FIG. 5 is a view in section taken along lines [0008] 4-4 in FIG. 4 illustrating the flip down cover and fasteners; and,
  • FIG. 6 is a diagrammatic view of another embodiment of the invention.[0009]
  • DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Turning now to the drawings, FIGS. 1, 2 and [0010] 3 depict a golf club cover indicated generally by the referrence numeral 10. The cover 10 comprises a cover element 11 having a club head portion 12, a club shaft portion 14 and a keyhole shaped entrance aperture 16. The entrance aperture 16 has an open hole 18 that accommodates the head of the golf club and an open slot 20 of sufficient width to accommodate a portion of the golf club's shaft. It will be appreciated that the cover element has the shape generally that of half a pear of fruit with the full view (front elevation of FIG. 2) and the side view (side elevation of FIG. 3).
  • FIG. 3 depicts the [0011] golf cover 10 in side sectional elevation with a golf club, indicated generally by the reference numeral 22, positioned for insertion into the golf club cover 10. After the club is inserted into the cover, the cover can be fitted around the club head 24. It should be understood that club head 24 and associated shaft 26 are illustrative of and represent many different types of golf club heads such as, drivers, putters, fairway woods, irons and hybrids and their associated shafts.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the [0012] golf club cover 10 with a flexible flip down cover 28 for use during travel or otherwise. The flip down cover 28 is attached to the golf club cover by conventional fasteners such as, the ubiquitous hook and eye fasteners 30. Stitches 32 can be employed to secure the flip down cover to the cover element while functioning as a hinge for the flip down cover.
  • FIG. 5 depicts the golf club cover of FIG. 4 showing the action of the flip down [0013] cover 28.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates another embodiment of the invention incorporating the [0014] keyhole entrance aperture 16 in a generally cylindrical cover 34.
