STOP MOTION CONTROL FOR JACQUARD LOOMS Filed July 2'7, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet l Jaw Z07 afiWmmmr y 1935- 1.. C. BRADY 2,002,429
STOP MOTION CONTROL FOR JACQUARD LOOMS Filed July 27, 1933 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 inncntnr or hangers 23, to which the eyes 24 are connected, the eyes 24 being supported by the top loops or mid pieces 25 of the couplings.
These top loops or midpieces have connection with the neck cords 25, that in turn have connection with the jacquard hooks 21 that cooperate with the needles 28, the operation of the hooks being controlled by the movements of the grifis 29, over which the upper ends of the hooks fall, during the operation of the jacquard.
As is well known by persons skilled in the operation of jacquards, the operation of these needles 28 is controlled by the usualcards 30, that move over the cylinder 3|, the needles being urged towards the cylinder 3|, by means of spring members contained in the spring box 32, through which the opposite ends of the needles extend.
In the operation of the device, assuming that a break should occur in any portion of the cou-' pling or harness, the lingo connected with the broken coupling or harness, will drop, the lower end thereof contacting with the plate I6, completing the circuit to the stop motion mechanism not shown, through the wire mesh material [9, plate I6, and wires I8 and 22. v
The jacquard mechanism isimmediately stopped, and the operator may now. repair the broken coupling or harness, preventing an imper-' fectweave known to the trade as seconds, and which result in great loss to the producer.
In the event that for some reason, a needle'28 2,002,429 couplings or harness and include bottom loops would not be forced through its opening of the card 30, and would only extend a portion of the distance within the opening, the hook 2'! associated with this needle, would not operate, resulting in the dropping of the harness or coupling connected with the hook, so that the lingo associated therewith falls into engagement with the plate I6, completing the circuit to the stop motion mechanism, as previously described.
In view of the foregoing description, it is believed that a further detail description as to the operation of the device is unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
The combination with the lingoes and electric stop motion mechanism of a jacquard, of an electric stop motion controlling device, comprising a box-like body portion, a contact plate covering the inner surface of the bottom of the body portion, a contact member constructed of wire mesh material presenting square openings, held on the body portion in space relation with the contact plate, a frame secured over the second mentioned contact member securing the second mentioned contact member in position, the lingoes of the stop motion mechanism extending into the square openings of the wire mesh contact member, filling the openings, and. electric wires connected with the contact plate and contact member, whereby an electric circuit is completed when the lingoes drop and engage the contact plate.
