This invention relates to a combination re-y frigerator. andadvertising display device.
An object of the invention is the provision of a drinking fountainhaving a double walled housing, with the outer wall provided with spaced panels arranged circumferentially and throughout the length or" the housing and the panels being formed of transparent materials so that advertisements arrangedon sections of a revolving cylinder located within the housing and spaced therefrom will appear periodically through the different transparent panels when the cylinder is intermittently revolved, the cylinderbeing the direct inner housing for a refrigerating unit.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combined refrigerator and advertising display device in which a housing is provided for a refrigerating unit with the housing having circumferentially arranged transparent panels and with the panels arranged in vertical rows throughout the height of the housing, a cylinder being rotatably mounted 1 from the top of the housing, located within the housing and spaced from the inner walls of said housing, means being employed at the upper end of the housing for causing step by step rotation of the cylinder, said cylinder having spaced sections circumferentially arranged with rows of the sections extending throughout the height of the cylinder and housing, said sections corresponding in shape and position to the similarly placedtransparent panels so that when the cylinder is revolved intermittently advertising matter located onthe sections will appear through correspondingly placed panels in the housing.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combined mechanical refrigerator and advertising display device in which a plurality of advertisements are placed upon an intermittently revolved cylinder which appear through transparent panels of ahousing for a refrigerating unit, the unit being readily removable from the interior of the cylinder since said cylinder is free of obstructions, the device being so constructed that it may be employed upon street corners, roads, sidewalks, and other appropriate places, for cooling water in a drinking fountain, or the same may be employed on counters in stores for serving all kinds of cooled beverages.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification; nevertheless, it is to be understood that the invention isnotcc'onfined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims. 1
, Inthe drawings:
Figure l is a view in perspective of a combined refrigerator and advertising display device constructed in accordance with the principles ofour invention,
Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken along the line 2-2 of Figure 3, t
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the combined refrigerator and advertising display device, and Figure 4 is a vertical section showing an inside view of a panel.
Referring more particularly to the drawings; l0
designates a frame having a base member I l supported by legs i2 which are adapted to rest upon the sidewalk of a street or upon a counter in a building. The display device shown in the drawings has eight sides, but the housing may contain is formed of metal and is so constructed that it will-receive glass panels l3 and i4.
The top l5 hasinclined walls while the body portion of the display device has vertically disposed walls. The transparent panels M are located in the inclined walls of the top IS.
The extreme top portion has a, flat surface l6 upon which is mounted an auxiliary housing I! having vertically disposed panels I8. These panels maybe in the form of mirrors or advertising matter may be placed thereon.
- An air dome is rises from the member I! and is provided with horizontally disposed slots to provide for the circulation of air through the housing. The air dome is closed, as shownat 2|.
Located within the housing [0 is a cylinder preferably formed of metal, but notnecessarily so, and this cylinder likewiseconforms to the shape in cross section of the housing ID. The upper portion 26 has inclined walls which correspond to the-inclination of the panels ll of the topsection l5v of the housing. It will be noted that thiscylinder is spaced from the inner walls of the housing [0 so that said cylinder may be revolved freely and out of contact with the housing. The cylinder extends approximately the full length of the housing and has its outer face divided into sections which correspond to the panels formed in the housing. On these sections are applied advertisements which will appear through the transparent panels in the housing, and since this cylinder is rotated by a step by step movement the advertisements on the rows of sections will appear periodically at the various of a sleeve 33.
ing so that where the housing is placed on the pavement of a street each advertisement will be moved .towards the street sideperiodically and retained for a short period during each revolution ofthe cylinder"25.
A sleeve 21 is provided with a flange 28 and secured at 29 to the top 16 of the housing'll). This sleeve depends downwardlyiarid throughsan opening in the top 30 of the cylinder -25. Bearings 3| and 32 are located in spaced relation with each other and are disposed betweenthe outer wall of the tubular member 21 and the inner wall The last mentione'd sleeve --is connected to the underface of the top-30 of the cylinder 25.
Secured' to the "bottom of the sleeve '33 is a ratchet'wheel 35-which is provided with teeth '3 6- adapted to be engaged by a pawl: 31.
An arm 39 is secured to a worm gear lfi and theipawl 31'is pivotallymounted at-M on the U-shaped member 52 carried'by the end oithe arm 39. Aroller' l3 is carried by anextension M4 'of the pawl '31.
r A- bracket lfi iscon nected to the sleeve or tubular member 21 in any approved manner'and supports-an electric motor-'46. This motor drives a shaft l1 having a'worm' gear 48 which meshes With a worm gear 49. A shaft 50 is connected to-"the'worm geardfi and drivesa' wormel which meshes with the wormgear 48.
- A ring- 55 is carried by a base member 56 which is secured to the lower end of the tubular member+21. This ring as shown in-Fig. 2, is split andis provided with lips '51 and 58 extending outwardly from the split portion of the ring. It willbe noted'that-as the arm '39 is revolved the roller fliwill engage the inner face of the ring '55 until it comes to the opening; adjacent the lip 58 when it will move through the openingand a spring iill will rock the pawl '31'and' move the same i-nto engagement with a tooth 3% while the roller 43 will move outwardly past the lip 58 and intothe opening. The ratchet'wheel 35 is care ried through an arcby the arm 39 until the roller 43 again reaches the-lip 51 when the roller will be movedinwardlyagainst the i tension of the spr'ing fifi and force the-pawl -31 out of en.- -gagement"=with the tooth 3li of the ratchet-'35. -It *willbe notedthat'the interior of the revolving I cylinder is free of obstructions so that it may readily receive a refrigerating unit. The housing lfland the cylinder 25, thereby-form a cover ior'the refrigeratingnnit which may be removed bodily by' the release of certain pipes.
The refrigerating unit consists of a tank 65 which has an outlet pipe66 extending downwar'dly and connected to branch pipes-B1 and 68. Each of these branch pipes extend across the bottom of the unit and upwardly along the inner face of the housing and adjacent the framework so that the pipe will be hidden from the exterior. A horizontally disposed pipe 69 extends laterally from the-vertically disposed portions-1B of the branch pipe 61 and is connected with'a pipe1l extending through the housing and connected to a spigot located in a cup 12 secured to the outer face of the housing in. An operating handle-13 controls the flow of water through the drinking cup 12. The branch pipe 61 hasa vertical portion 14,. a horizontal portion15, and a portion 16' which extends through the housing and is connected with a spigot and ardrinking cup '11. 'operating 'handle" 18 controls the flow of water to--the drinking cup '11. :The connections" between= the pipes 1 I its branchs pipe 10,
by a pipe 82 with a condensing coil 82 through an expansion valve 83. The expansion coil is also connected -to thecompressor 8! by a return pipe A motor 85 through a belt 86 drives the compressor: 8 4. Both the motor and compressor-are supportedupon a table 81 "which is oarried'by brackets-:88. The'bracketsf88'are-supported'by a second table 89 which is supported-by legs'ilfl. 'The tables 81 and -Bii and thetank' 65 have a -width which will permit the revolving housing 25 to be placed over the refrigeratingunit with the unit sumciently spaced fromthe cylinder to permit the cylinder to freely revolve.
The condensing coil' SZ is connected with the outlet side of thecom'pressor iil lay-means of a pipe 9!.
The general arrangement of the refrigerating unit is shown more or less diagrammatically-so that the means for cooling the coil -82 is not shown. However, this means would be supported by the tablets.
The combined refrigerator-andadvertising display device isadapted to beplaced on the pavement of a street in a conspicuous place or Within a building or an amusement place where beverages are sold. Thus the pipe :19-may be connected with a source of water if used asadrinking fountain on the street or it may be connected up-with a source of beverage when used-for dispensing liquids.
"Thus it-Willbe seen that the device contemplates not only an advertising display but also contemplates the use of the device as ameans for dispensing liquids, water, or beverages-and it is immaterial where the'device is placedso long as theposition is sufficientlyconspicuous to call the attention of the public totheadvertisements on the'sections of the -cylinder '25 which is'revolved step by step so that advertisements are periodically retained before the various panels. Therefore by this step by step rotation'of the inner cylinder all ofthe advertisements on the'cylinder will be moved to the most conspicuous positionsothat they-may be viewed by the public at each revolution of the cylinder' 25 and-all of the advertisements then will-be equally displayed to the public.
while an eight-sided housing has-been shown it :will beappreciated -that the number of walls may be greater or less than the numbershownand the ratchet wheel35-will-be provided'with the number of teeth required toiplace the advertisements before the various panels.
Where-a greater number ofsides. are employed the space between the-lips 51 and 58 will-bereduced. A less number of sides, however, will re quire a wider space between'the lips.
Neon tubes lot are carried by the cylinder 25 for illuminating the advertisements on the sections of the cylinder. These neon tubes are connected to the sourceof' current-in any approved manner.
