Description

    CROSS—REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application is entitled to the benefit of Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 60/268,339 filed Feb. 12, 2001.[0001]
  • BACKGROUND
  • 1. Field of Invention [0002]
  • This invention relates to clothing, specifically to a piece of headwear worn in cold temperatures that allows the wearer's long hair to be kept and displayed on the outside of the hat. [0003]
  • BACKGROUND
  • 2. Discussion of Prior Art [0004]
  • Many people with long hair do not like to stuff it under their winter/cold weather hat. Stuffing long hair under a winter hat tangles hair and makes the wearer's head look lumpy—piles of hair under a snug hat look lumpy. [0005]
  • Existing patented hats have addressed the “wearing a hat with long hair” problem, but have done so without the thought of winter or cold weather hats. The following are cited examples of prior art with a description of their shortcoming(s): [0006]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,875,494—This patent is for a baseball type hat that allows a ponytail to be pulled through the back. This hat does not keep the wearer's ears and head warm in cold conditions. [0007]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,875,488—This patent is for a visor style cap that holds a ponytail. This hat is not made to protect from cold weather. [0008]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,822,797—This patent is for a hat that protects the wearer's hairstyle. It is not made for nor does it address cold weather protection. [0009]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,799,334—This patent is for a baseball cap that allows pigtails to hang through. It is not a cold weather hat, and does not provide cold weather protection. [0010]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,657,490—This patent is for a hat that protects the wearer's hairstyle. It does not function as cold weather protection. [0011]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,598,585—This patent is for a headband with a ponytail holder. It certainly does not protect from cold weather. [0012]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 5,325,540—This patent is for a hat that exposes a substantial portion of the wearer's head. It also resembles a baseball cap in function. It does not keep the wearer's head warm. [0013]
  • U.S. Pat. No. Des350,427—This patent is for an ornamental hat. It does not serve the function of being a cold weather hat. [0014]
  • SUMMARY
  • This invention is an article of clothing, specifically a hat, which is to be worn in cold weather and allows the wearer's hair to be pulled through openings that permit the hair to be worn outside of the hat's head enclosing area, thus not against the wearer's head. Said hat comprising: [0015]
  • (a) a cold weather hat of predetermined thermal material that covers the wearer's head and ears said hat having specified openings allowing the wearer's hair to be pulled through. [0016]
  • Whereby allowing the wearer to wear a cold weather-protecting hat and not have their hair enclosed under said hat. [0017]
  • OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGES
  • Accordingly, the advantage of the present invention is: [0018]
  • (a) The hat keeps the wearer's head and ears warm in cold weather and allows their long hair to be pulled through openings and not enclosed by the hat. This keeps the wearer's hair from being tangled or messed up from being enclosed under their winter hat, and it keeps them from having a bumpy head appearance.[0019]
  • DRAWING FIGURES
  • In the drawings, closely related figures have the same number but different alphabetic suffixes. [0020]
  • FIGS. 1A and 1B show perspective views of the Cold Weather Hat with Hair Pull Throughs. [0021]
  • FIGS. 2A and 2B show front and rear elevation views of the Cold Weather Hat with Hair Pull Throughs. [0022]
  • REFERENCE NUMERAL IN DRAWINGS
  • [0023] 10 hairpull through
  • DISCRIPTION OF INVENTION
  • A preferred embodiment of the Cold Weather Hat with Hair Pull-Throughs is illustrated in FIGS. 1A and 1B (perspective views) and [0024] 2A and 2B (elevation views). It is a thermal knit hat. It accommodates average hat size wearers. It is shaped to cover the wearer's ears, top of head, back of head, and sides of head. The hat has two circular openings, or hair pull throughs 10 (1A). These hair pull throughs each have a 1 inch diameter. These openings are located in the upper rear of the hat, positioned so that, when the hat is worn they are located on the upper rear portions of the wearer's head. There is one hair pull through 10 on each side elevation of the hat.
  • Operation of Invention
  • The Cold Weather Hat with Hair Pull Throughs is operated by pulling the wearer's long hair through the [0025] hair pull throughs 10. Then the hat is pulled down and fitted onto the head of the wearer so that the wearer's ears, back of head, and sides of head are covered and protected from cold weather, and their long hair is not enclosed under the hat.
  • Conclusion, Ramifications, and Scope of Invention
  • Thus the reader will see that the Cold Weather Hat with Hair Pull Throughs keeps the wearer's head protected against cold temperatures, and allows their long hair to be worn outside of the hat. [0026]
  • While my above description contains many specificities, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the invention, but rather as an exemplification of one preferred embodiment thereof Many other variations are possible. [0027]
  • For example, the hat can have: [0028]
  • different number of hair pull throughs such as [0029] 1 for a ponytail, 3, 4, etc.;
  • different shape of hair pull throughs such as oval, square, etc.; [0030]
  • different size of hair pull throughs such as 0.5 inch diameter, 2 inch diameter, etc.; [0031]
  • different placement of hair pull through such as on top of the hat, in front of the at, etc.; [0032]
  • different material construction such as wool, cashmere, etc.; [0033]
  • different sizes for children, larger heads, smaller heads, etc. [0034]
  • Accordingly, the scope of the invention should be determined not by the embodiment(s) illustrated, but by the appended claims and their legal equivalents. [0035]
