Abstract

The bed sheet securing system is a bed sheet having a hem in the bottom edge. The hem has a pair of openings through which a drawstring is inserted such that the two ends thereof protrude through the openings. In use the bed sheet is fitted over a mattress with the bottom edge and drawstring tucked thereunder. The drawstring is then pulled at its ends to draw the sheet taut around the mattress. Finally the drawstring is secured at its ends by for example tying.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • This invention relates to systems used to secure bed coverings or sheets on a bed mattress. The improved system incorporates a drawstring in a hem of the bed covering or sheet for use in securing the sheet firmly onto a mattress. [0002]
  • 2. Description of Related Art [0003]
  • Various means of securing a bed sheet, cover and the like to a bed are known in the art. The most common of these include constructing the sheet in size and form to securely fit over the mattress at the corners and edges. This form is often augmented with extra sheet material at the corners, which has sufficient elasticity to be pulled over, and tucked under the mattress corners. [0004]
  • Another variation of this securing method is to attach elastic straps diagonally from one sheet edge to an adjacent edge at the approximate sheet corner. This elastic strap stretches to fit over the bed mattress and retracts to draw the sheet taut about the mattress. The elastic straps often weaken due to use and cleaning such as washing of the sheet. [0005]
  • Clips, straps and other devices have been disclosed for purposes of attaching a sheet to a mattress. All of these devices and apparatus are more complicated than the afore mention fitted sheet and elastic securing means. [0006]
  • As can be seen, there is a need for a versatile, simple means to secure a sheet to a bed. The present invention incorporates a hem in the edge of a sheet into which a drawstring is slidably inserted. The drawstring may be tightened as necessary to secure a sheet sized to generally fit a particular mattress form, as for example a king size mattress, yet accommodate variations in mattress dimensions due to differences in manufacture and construction. [0007]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An improved bed cover securing system comprises a sheet with an edge hem and a drawstring slidably inserted therein. One object of the present invention is retention of a bed sheet on a mattress. Another object is tightening of the securing means to hold the sheet taut on a mattress. A further object is provision for accommodating the securing of the sheet to various size or tolerance mattresses. [0008]
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.[0009]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of the securing system attached to a bed mattress. [0010]
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a bottom view of the securing system attached to a mattress. [0011]
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a partial cut away view of the bed and sheet corner.[0012]
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • The following detailed description is the best currently contemplated modes for carrying out the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention. [0013]
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 3, the bed sheet securing system [0014] 1 has bed sheet 2 with a hem 3 at the bottom edge 9 thereof. A drawstring 4 is slidably inserted in hem 3 through openings 5, 6 with ends 7, 8 protruding therefrom. Openings 5, 6 may have a grommet 25 to reinforce the material forming openings 5, 6.
  • The [0015] sheet 2 of securing system I is preferably shaped to fit over a mattress 20 of a bed 21 with an approximate fit at bed corners 22. The sheet 2 shape and size need only be approximately that necessary to fit over the mattress 20. By way of illustration, a sheet 2 sized to fit a king size mattress would have sufficient tolerance to fit variations such as differing perimeter dimensions and heights that might be caused by incorporation of a pillow top mattress as an example.
  • The bed sheet securing system [0016] 1 is placed over the mattress 20 with the bottom edge 9 and drawstring 4 tucked thereunder. The openings 5, 6 may be located at any convenient position along the hem 3 as for example FIG. 1 illustrates a corner position and FIG. 2 a side position. The drawstring 4 is then pulled at ends 7, 8 to draw the sheet 2 taut around the mattress 20. The drawstring 4 may then be secured by use of fastener 26, tying or other means at the ends 7, 8.
  • An [0017] elastic band 15 may be attached at bottom edge 9 intermediate openings 5, 6 to aid in drawing and retaining sheet 2 taut over the mattress 20. To provide improved reliability with continuous use the securing system 1 may incorporate sleeves 10 of vinyl, nylon cordova or like material in the hem 3 at the sheet corners 11.
  • While the invention has been particularly shown and described with respect to the illustrated and preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the foregoing and other changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. [0018]
