The interactive functions of the engagement lug 40 relative to the slide-stop rails 33 and alignment stops 31 and 38 act as follows, Figs. 1, 2, 6 and '7: In the closed position of the stool C, Fig. 2 and the dotted line position in Fig. 7, the engagement lug is positioned back of the bevel ends 35, thus any tendency of the stool C, during occupancy of the chair, to slide forward toward extension position is counteracted by the bevel ends 35; as the engagement lug 40, to permit forward movement, must rise against the load imposed by the weight of the occupant. Notloaded the stool C is readily drawn outward or extended manually, the engagement lug 40, with but slight obstruction, sliding upward on the bevel ends 35 to slide freely on the slide-stop 1 rails 33. With the stoll C extended the engagement lug drops into a position forward or in front of the squared ends 38 or between the squared ends 36 and alignment stop 31. When in this position the' engagement lug 40 by impinging on these stop members prevents any longitudinal misalignment of the stool C with relation to the main frame A. Lateral displacement of the stool C in extended position is counteracted by the notch 4| of the engagement lug 40 registering straddlewise of the stop 38 Fig. 6.

A unit filler or cushion member D, of desired structure and upholstery, performs the dual function of forming a second-deck seat member or a filler, manually positioned or placed in either instance. In the ensemble device utilized as a chair proper, the unit filler functions as a second-deck of the stool C forming an adjunct of comfort. Used as a lounge with the stool C extended and the swing-back in either of the positions indicated by a: and 1/, Fig. 2, the unit filler occupies the space betweenthe swing-back B and extended stool C and rests upon the bot-' tom closure webbing 1 of the main frame A,

thereby providing a comfortable ensemble structure for occupancy as a lounge. .With the unit filler D in position described as supplementally forming a lounge, simply lowering the swingback B to the last position, indicated by 2 Fig. 2, forms a comfortable structure utilizable as a couch or bed. Operation of the device is self evident from the description of the interaction of the several parts. 5

In the modified form shown in Fig. 9, the drop-legs or struts 45, of thin metal, are mounted freely rotatable on each end of the" bar I3 and are positioned and adapted to function 'between the lower portion 9 of the swing-back B and the arms [6. In the closed position, indicated by the dotted lines of Fig. 9, the dropleg is swung to a disappearing position between the lower portion 9 of the swing-back B and the side frames of the main frame A. As depicted in Fig. 9, the bottom rails i are adapted to rest directly on the floor as at 46.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 10, the hidden legs 29 are omitted and the visible turned legs 41 are substituted and secured, by suitable means as dowels 48, to the spreader sill 6.

I claim:

In a chair, a main seat frame, said seat frame forming a seat support, an auxiliary frame arranged to be disposed over the seat support, as well as to form an extension to the main seat frame for a leg rest, said auxiliary frame having front supporting legs, and a pair of flexible fabric members for limiting the extension movement of the auxiliary frame, one end of each of said members being fastened to thefmain seat frame near the side edge of the frame, and the other end being fastened near the rear edge of n v the auxiliary frame to the under side thereof, whereby when the auxiliary frame is disposed in the seat frame, said flexible members are in doubled relation between the two frames.
