As heretofore manufactured, hand straps of the character indicated have been formed with a generally stirrup-shaped hand hold or grip loop consisting of a porcelain-enamel tubular body portion having its two ends flattened and united to the flattened lateral faces of the arm perpendicular and toward the side of forcmg the shank against the vehicle, so as to be out of the sengers. The same general desirable effects are produced in the modifications shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7, in which case the lower end of the shank or supporting arm 2 is flared outwardly and laterally in each direction to provide flat side faces engaged by the flattened ends 5' of the handheld or grip 4, said ends being secured to the wedgelike extension 2' by the usual rivets 6. In this case, the wedge-like projection 2 is extended to engage the terminal portions of the tubular members of the grip 4, which terminal portions are finished with wing-like members 4' which merge into the flattened end sections 5 andafiord an opening through which the lowermost rivet 6 may be passed. With this particular construction, a relatively large bearing area is provided between the lower portion of the wedge-shaped terminal 2" of the shank and the terminal portions of the tubular member 4, these bearing areas serving to take up any bending stresses and prevent the latter being transmitted to the relatively thin end sections 5' of the gripi What I claim is:

l. A hand'strap comprising a tubular hand grip loop having flat ends, and a rigid supporting arm having an end provided with flat sides secured to the flat ends of the grip by means of rivets and extending between and engaging the terminal portions of the tubular member, the lower end of the arm being provided with concave seats engaged by the terminal portions of the tubular member.

2. A hand strap comprising a tubular hand grip stirrup-like loop having sides diverging from their free ends toward the bight of the loop and having flattened ends, and a rigid supporting arm having an end provided with flat sides secured directlybetween the flattened ends of the loop and projecting beyond the flattened ends toward the bight of the loop, so as to underlie and engage against a part of the tubular portions of the loop sides.

3. A hand strap comprising a tubular hand grip stirrup-like loop having sides their free ends toward the bight of the loop and having flattened gage against a part of the tubular grip stirrup-like .loop

4. A hand strap comprising a tubular hand having sides diverging from their free ends toward the bight of the loop and having flattened ends, a rigid supporting arm having an end provided with flat sides secured directly between the flattened ends of the loop and projecting beyond the flattened ends toward the bight of the loop, so as to underlie and engage against a part of the tubular portions of the loop sides, and means on the sides of the loop at the juncture thereof with said arm for resisting distortion of the loop with respect to the supporting arm in a direction'normal to the plane of the loop. 7

5. A hand strap comprising a tubular hand grip stirrup-like loop having sides diverging from their free ends toward the bight or" the loop and having flattened ends, and a rigid supporting arm having an end provided with flat sides secured directly between the flattened'ends of the loop and projecting beyond the flattened ends toward the bight oi the loop, so as to underlie and'engage against a part of the tubular portionsoi the loop sides, the tubular end portions of the loop sides and said arm having portions engaging within'one another for preventing distortion of the loop with respect to the arm.

6. A hand strap comprising a tubular hand grip stirrup-like loop having sides diverging from their free ends toward the bight of the loop and having flattened ends, and a rigid supporting arm having an end provided with flat sides secured directly between the flattened ends of the loop and projecting beyond the flattened ends toward the bight of the loop, so as to underlie and engage against a part of the tubular portions 01" the loop sides, the loop sides and said arm having interengaging projections and recesses.
