5 Claims.
The invention relates to a ticket handling machine and more especially to a ticket punching and stamping machine.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character, wherein a transportation ticket will be punched and stamped when issued to a passenger so as to identify the starting and destination point of such passenger, as Well as the nature of the trip, either one trip, round trip or several one-way trips, the ticket being also stamped to indicate the time of issuance thereof, the said issued ticket being deposited within the machine, while deliveredto the passenger is a duplicate except the stamping thereof of the time of issuance and thus in this chine and these punched for identifying the destination and starting points ofa passenger in transit, one ticket being delivered or issued to the passenger and the other ticket retained within the machine so that a complete record maybe had of the passengers traveling upon a bus or other transportation medium, the deposited ticket being stamped to indicate the time of issuance of the other ticket so that a complete recordmay be had of each ticket issued by the machine, the
r latter being manually-controlled.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character, whereinthemanufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the machine comprises a stand-supported casing l0 havingri'sing from its base H a support 2 for rolled ticket strips l3 and M, respectively, the rolls being fitted upon journals i5 in the support l2. These strips i3 and M are printed or otherwise marked upon their upper faces with transportation indicia l5 and I1, respectively, as for example, stations along a determined route, and the nature of the trip en route, for example, a single one-way trip, a return trip, a pass, a transfer or several trips, and the indicia l6 and I! appear in repeating fashion throughout the extent of the strips so as to divide the said strips into a series of tickets. It is, of course, understood'that the character of the indicia I6 and I! upon the strips I3 and I4 may be varied according to requirements and congruous with the character of transportation and routing of the same- It is to be understood that the indicia l6 and I7 is duplicated on the respective strips !3 and M so that one ticket maybe issued to a passenger and the other ticket deposited in the machine for checking up purposes of such ticket issuance.
Arranged within the casing IE! and builded upon its base I! is a suitable frame I8 in which is disposed a horizontal punching bed |9 upon which travel, in their superimposed relation, the strips The head 2| is fitted with a plate 24, the grooves 25 in its upper side aligning with. the rows of punches 22, and formed in thi'splate 'to open through the bottoms of the grooves 25 are vertical slots 25 for actuator pins 21, these being slidably fitted in guide barrels 28 extended within the grooves 25 and upon arms 29 of setting slides39 movably supported up'onguide rods 3| arranged in the frame i-8-.- The slots 26 constitute clearances for the actuator pins 2'!v so that these may be brought into verticalalignment with selected punches 22 for the operation of the same. The pins 27 are selectively aligned with the punches 22 on the shifting of theslides 30 so that when the pins 21 are actuated the punches 22 will punchthe strips l3 and :4 when upon the bed l9. 7
The slides 3| have connected therewith shift rods 32, these being extended outsideof the casing I and carrying hand knobs 33 at their outer ends for manual manipulation thereof. Rising from the slides 30 are pointers 34, these being extended through suitable slots 35 in the top of the casing II] to coact with a setting scale 35 upon said top and the identifying indicia H3 and I! of charts 31 duplicating the indicia present upon the ticket sections 38- of the strips I3 and i4. Horizontally journaled in the head 2| above the actuator pins 21 are eccentrics 39, these being active upon the said pins 21 to move the same for the operation of the selected punches 22. Carried by the journals of said eccentrics 39 are gears 45, these meshing with a double gear 4| which also meshes with a gear 42 upon a driven shaft 43 journaled in the frame l8. This shaft 43 carries one of a train of gears 44, these being mounted outside of the frame |8 within the easing it] and driven from a pinion 45 on apower shaft.45 fitted with a handcrank 41, manually controlled. 7
Supported for vertical sliding movement in the frame i8 is'a lifter and guide track 48 for a catch pin 4!! slidably fitted in a carrier 58 movable upon a horizontal guide rod mounted in said frame l8, the pin 49 being tensioned by a spring 52 which holds the said-pin in contact with the track 48 and below the path of travel of the strips l3 and H upon the bed l9 when the said track 48 is in its lowered position. On the raising of the track 48 the pin 49 is projected upwardly to engage in openings 53 formed at intervals in the strips I3 and I4. This carrier 5!! is shifted upon the rod 5| by a throw lever 54 pivoted at 55 in the frame l8, the upper end of the lever 54 being forked at 56 to engage a coupling lug 5'! on said carrier 50. The lever 54 has pivoted thereto a link 58, the same being pivoted to a throw arm 59 pivoted at 60 in the frame I8, the arm 59 being fitted with a roller 6| contacting with an eccentric 62 driven from another of the train of. gears 44 so that the punching operacatch pin 49 is shifted by the carrier 5!) upon the rod 5| to advance the strips l3 and M the distance of a ticket section 38 after the punching of such section.
The lifter and guide track 48 is held for vertical movement by suitable guides 63 and is operated upon by a lifting cam 64 driven from another of the train of gears 44 so that the pin 49 will be projected by the track 48 to engage in the openings 53 in the several strips l3 and I4 for the advancement thereof the length of a ticket section 38 of such strips.
Upon the shaft carrying the cam 64 is a trip G5 operating'a bell striker 65 pivoted at 61 for sounding a bell 6B for signalling purposes to be indicative of the advancement of the strips 3 and I4" the distance of the length of a ticket section 38 of such strips.
The shaft carrying the cam 64 and trip 65 also carries an eccentric 69 which operates to rock anf arm 'Hlpivoted at 1| intermediate of its. length. This arm 15 has pivoted thereto the links 12 connected to a blade holder 13 slidably supported upon vertical posts 14 and carrying the shearing blade 15 having the beveled angular cutting edge 16 for shearing the strips l3 and [4 in unison when the same have moved the length of a ticket section 38 and the latter brought into position in duplicate with relation to astamping bed ll, one ticket section, that is to say','the uppermost one, riding upon this bed and the othencoming into position below the bed for the stamping thereof by a stamping time clock 18 of any approved type. The clock 18 is supported for movement to stamping position by uprights I9 through the medium of a cushioning device 89 operated upon by a roller 8| carried by an actuating arm 82 pivoted at 83 and controlled in its movement by an eccentric 84 carried upon the shaft having the eccentric 52.
Beneath the bed 11 is a delivery shelf 85 upon which falls the ticket section 38 after the stamping thereof and this shelf has the laterally inclined discharge end portion 86 overhanging a ticket section receiver or depositor 81 within the casing l0 so that the ticket section dropped upon the shelf 85 will be delivered to said recaptacle or depository 8'5 through the action of a kicker 88 pivoted at 89 and operated by a tripping pin 99 active upon the tail piece 9| of said kicker, the pin 90 being carried by the clock" and controlled thereby.
The clock mechanism of the clock 18 is set and wound in any desirable manner and its time stamping mechanism isinked in any suitable way, the stamping time clock being of conventional type and constituting no part of the present invention except for the stamping of a ticket section of the time of issue of theoriginal ticket section to a purchaser, the time stamped duplicate ticket section being delivered into the machine and retained thereby, while the original ticket section is removed from the bed H by its purchaser, this section being devoid of time stamping, as will be apparent.
Upon the gear 44 of the train operating the shaft 43 is a tripping lug 92 actuating the trigger 9301 a counting register 94, the latter being of any suitable type to register successively the number of ticket sections 38 punched and stamped in the operation of the machine and this register being visible for inspection without the casing Ill.
The receptacle or depository 81 is preferably carried by a removable door or section 95 of the casing It) so that access may be had to the receptacle or depository for the acquiring of the ticket sections deposited or delivered thereto.
The angular disposition of the cutting edge 16 of theblade 15 assures a positive shearing of the strips 53 and M for the severance of the ticket section 38 therefrom subsequent to the punching and stamping of these sections.
The location of the stamping bed 1'! is at the delivery end 98 of the casing l where the original issued ticket sections 38 are accessible and acquired by the purchaser. This bed 11 tapers at 9! in the direction of the punching bed and functions to separate the duplicate ticket sections, one passing unto the bed and the other beneath the same into'stamping position. The ticket section passed upon the bed is the one acquired by the purchaser.
It should be apparent that the mechanism of the machine is timed so that there will be required three revolutions of the hand-crank 4'! for the punching of duplicate ticket sections 38 of the strips l 3 and M, the severing of these sections from the strips and the stamping of the time of issuance of one section and its deposit in the machine with the other section exposed and free at the delivery end 96 for the acquiring thereof by the purchaser of a ticket.
The operator of the machine, by the shift rods 32, can support actuator pins 21 for the selective working of punches 22, whereby these automatically will punch duplicate ticket sections 38 of the strips 13 and M to identify the data I6 and I! appearing upon such sections as indicative of the starting and stopping points of a route and the nature of the ticket section purchased, that is, a single trip, a return trip, a paid trip, a pass, transfer, half-fare, inbound or outbound, or in other words, the value of the issuance of such ticket section.
It should be apparent that a positive and. complete check can be had upon the operator of a transportation vehicle as to the ticket issuance, the time of issuance thereof and the value of such issuance a duplicate of the purchased ticket and the time of issuance thereof stamped upon the duplicate as acquired by a purchaser or passenger of such vehicle will be deposited within the machine and constitute a check on the operator of such machine.
What is claimed is:
l. A machine of the character described comprising a series of data punches, manually movable actuator pins for said punches and selectively movable with relation to the latter, plural ticket strips movable simultaneously into the path of the punches to be punched thereby, means for feeding the strips simultaneously, means for severing the strips subsequent to the punching, means for advancing the punched strips simultaneously with each other the length of a ticket section prior to severing of said strips, and time stamping mechanism movable for stamping one of the severed strip sections.
2. A machine of the character described comprising a'series of data punches, manually movable actuator pins for said punches and selectively movable with relation to the latter, plural ticket strips movable simultaneously into the path of the punches to be punched thereby, means for feeding the strips simultaneously, means for severing the strips subsequent to the punching, means for advancing the punched strips simultaneously with each other the length of a ticket section prior to severing of said strips, time stamping mechanism movable for stamping one of the severed strip sections, and mechanism for actuating said stamping mechanism.
3. A machine of the character described comprising a series of data punches, manually movable actuator pins for said punches and selectively movable with relation to the latter,plura1 ticket strips movable simultaneously into the path of the punches to be punched thereby, means for feeding the stripssimultaneously, means for severing the strips subsequent to the punching, means for advancing the punched strips simultaneously with each other the length of a ticket section prior to severing of said strips, time stamping mechanism movable for stamping'one of the severed strip sections, mechanism for actuating said stamping mechanism, and means for depositing the stamped strip section.

A machine of the character described comprising a series of data punches, manually movable actuator pins for said punches and selectively movable with relation to the latter, plural ticket strips movable simultaneously into the path of the punches to be punched thereby, means for feeding the strips simultaneously, means for sev-- ering the strips subsequent to the punching, means for advancing the punched strips simultaneously with each other the length of a ticket section prior to severing of said strips, time stamping mechanism movable for stamping one of the.
severed strip sections, mechanism for actuating said stamping mechanism, means for depositing the stamped strip section, and cushioning means for said stamping mechanism.

A machine of the character described comprising a series of data punches, manually movable actuator pins for saidrpunches and selectively movable with relation to the latter, plural ticket strips movable simultaneously into the path of the punches to be punched thereby, means for feeding the strips simultaneously, means for severing the strips subsequent to the punching, means for advancing the punched strips simultaneously with each other the length of a ticket section prior to severing of'said strips, time stamping mechanism movable for stamping one of the severed strip sections, mechanism for actuating said stamping mechanism, means for depositing the stamped strip section, cushioning means for said stamping mechanism, and manually controlled timed mechanism actuating the said means and last-named mechanism.
