This invention relates to stubbingdeviceaand ;more particularlytodevices for securingitogether twoadjacent poles,.or.securing the baseof one pole :to .a stub pole, as is .sometimes. necessary.

Another object of the invention is :the .provision of a stubloing or mole-securing device having .provision whereby Lthe straps A orlbands which embrace the pole may :be tightened :or= drawn together by bolts passing between the .poles, the bolt-securing -devicesbeing so :arranged that there will be no=possibility of movement between them and =the pole-embracing straps.

as shown at 26, to permit passage of the bolt '23. A washer 27, shown more particularly in Fig. 8, is provided upon each end of the bolt' 23. This washer has a substantially fiat head provided with a central opening 28 for the passage of the bolt. It is also provided with a pair of rearwardly projecting lugs 29 and 30 which, when the washer is installed, lie above and below the bolt, respectively, and pass through the upper and lower ends of the keyhole slot 25. These'lugs' are tapered inwardly, as shown in Figs. 4 and 8, and are provided on their outside surfaces with relatively sharp outwardly projecting ribs 3! and 32.
When this washer is placed upon the bolt 23, the latter is received between these l'ugs,-an-d the head of the washer may be struck with a hammer to drive it in place. The ends of the lugs 29 and 30 pass into the opening 22 of the casting I1, and the ribs 3| and 32 will be caused to bite into the lower and upper edges of the straps I6 and M, respectively. This hammering of the washer may be done before the bolt 23 is inserted therethrough. The ribs on the washer lugs will, by biting into the straps, interlockwith the straps and hence prevent any slipping of the latter through the slots of the casting II. In other words, the straps will thereby be locked to the casting, and when the nuts 2 are tightened upon the bolt 23, the straps will be caused to bind about and closely embrace the respective poles.
Also, as the bolt 23 is locked within the castings I1, and as these castings are secured to the straps, there will be no tendency when the nuts are taken up upon the bolt 23 for the latter to twist or move, but on the other hand the entire assembly will be held rigidly in position.
It will be understood that the lugs I8 and I9 will fit in between the two poles and resist any tendency that the casting might have to roll or move about the surface of the poles; As the nuts are tightened and the straps drawn inwardly from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that shown in Fig. 3, thetension of the straps I 6 and I I will tend to act as a couple pulling the upper endof the casting II in one direction and the lower end in the other direction. This will be resistedby ends of the straps, through which lags may be driven into the poles to secure the ends of the straps tightly thereagainst.

In this instance a U-shaped strap 35 will be passed about one pole, and a U-shaped strap 36 will be passed about the other pole at the same level, the ends of these straps overlapping each other and passing through the same slot in the casting Il'a in superposed position. A similar pair of straps will be mounted below those just described to be passed through the other slot of the'casting Ila. In other words, in this form of my invention four straps will be employed in each connection instead of two, as shown in Fig. 1. In other respects this form of my invention is like that described in connection with While I have shown and described a preferred stoodthat it is nottobe limited to all of the details shown, but is capable of modification and variation within the spirit of the invention and within the scope ofthe appended claims.
. What I claim is: e
1. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, means embracing said poles, members positioned on opposite sides of the poles through which said embracing means pass, means to draw said members together to bind the embracing means about the poles, and wedge means supported by said drawing means to secure said members to the embracing means to prevent relative movement therebetween.
2. In a device for seeming together a pair of adjacent poles, strap-like means embracing the poles, members positioned. on opposite sides of the. poles and having slots through which the strap-like means pass, means cooperating with the walls of the slot to bind said strap-like members against slippage and a bolt passing'between the'poles and connected to said members to draw 3. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, strap-like means embracing the poles, bracket members positioned on opposite sides of the poles and having slots through which the strap-like means pass, a bolt passing between the poles and connected to said members to draw them together, and wedge members to secure said strap-like means against movement relatively to said bracket members.
4. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, strap-like means embracing the poles, bracket members positioned on opposite sides of the poles and having slots through which the strap-like means pass, a bolt passing between the poles and connected to said members to draw them together, and wedge members upon said bolt to secure said strap-like means against movement relatively to said bracket members.
5. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, a pair of bracket members adapted to be disposed in the space between said poles on opposite sides thereof, said members being provided with slots therein, a strap-like member embracing one of said poles and having its ends received in certain of said slots, a second straplike member embracing the other pole and having members against movement in the slots, and
means to draw said bracket members together to cause said strap-like members to embrace the poles closely.
6. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, a pair of members adapted to be disposed in the space between said poles on opposite sides thereof, said members being provided with slots therein, one of the slots in said members being above that of the other, a strap-like member embracing one pole and passing through the upper of said slots, a strap-like member embracing the other pole and passing through the lower of said slots, elements positioned between said strap-like members and securing the latter to said first-named members, and means to draw said strap-like members together to cause them to tightly engage the poles.
7. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, a pair of members adapted to be disposed in the space between said poles on opposite sides thereof, said members being provided with slots therein, one of the slots in said members being above that of the other, a strap-like member embracing one pole and passing through the upper of said slots, a strap-like member embracing the other pole and passing through the lower of said slots, elements positioned between said strap-like members and securing the latter to said first-named members, means to draw said strap-like members together to cause them to tightly engage the poles, and rearwardly projecting means on said first-named members to engage the rounded portions of the poles.
8. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, a pair of members adapted to be disposed in the space between said poles on opposite sides thereof, said members being provided with slots therein, strap-like members embracing the poles and having their ends received in said slots, a bolt passing through said slotted members to draw them together to bind the strap-like members to the poles, and washers positioned about said bolts and engaged with said strap-like members and said first-named members to secure them together. 7
9. In a stubbing device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, means for embracing the poles, brackets on opposite sides of the poles having openings into which the ends of the embracing means are inserted, wedge-like members secured to the bracket and engaged with said embracing means to secure the latter to the brackets, and means engaging said brackets to draw them into the spaces between the poles.
10. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, an embracing member embracing each of the poles, a bracket member upon each side of the poles, the ends of said embracing members being received in said brackets in spaced relation, means disposed between the ends of the embracing members to wedge them into firm contact with the brackets, and means disposed between the embracing members and engaging the brackets to draw the latter toward the poles.
11. In a device for securing together a pair of adjacent poles, an embracing member embracing each of the poles, a bracket member upon each side of the poles, the ends of said embracing members being received in said bracket in spaced relation, and a wedge-like member insertable in an opening in the bracket member between said embracing members and in a direction transverse thereto and having ridges thereon to bite into said embracing members to secure them to the corresponding bracket.
